What We Want to do in Planetside

    Hey guys,
This is more of a discussion than a statement. I have a question for you:

What would you like to be able to do in Planetside, or what do you think should be added?

Just try think of anything that you think would be a neat addition to the game (NON-STAT RELATED!)
Or try to think of some limitation of your character that you think should be altered.
I appreciate your input, and try to provide some interesting input!
  2. IamDH

I think more faction-specific things should be added.
    A vehicle for the ANT
An AP version of rocketpods (would be terrible at AI)
Some sort of support for the flash

    Oh yeah and............

A CONTINUOUS LASER BEAM FOR VS

    SPANDEX PARTY!
  3. KAHR-Alpha

    Naval warfare!
  4. NoblePixel

I think continuous laser beams sound pretty cool!

Also, what do you mean by Flash support?
  5. NoblePixel

Could you expand upon that a little? Sounds cool.
  6. IamDH

Better physics so it doesn't topple over every second. Maybe a certable roll cage or even a stability frame

SOE makes money + players happy

I'd also like an urban map

More truck horns. Seriously. I want an Ice Cream Truck horn for my AMS.

    Or-
More bases like Esamir Munitions. It's probably my favorite base in the game what with the extended firefights on that walkway between the two towers.
  8. Pikachu

Galaxy able to carry vehicles and place them on funny places. Like a MBT on biolab platform.
  9. Klondik3

Commander mode for platoon leaders - top down view of the battlefield and the ability to set personal waypoints for individual soldiers, send them requests to switch kits or get a vehicle. In short, micro-management mode for Planetside.

So you'd incorporate an RTS-like mode into Planetside, kinda like games such as Natural Selection or Nuclear Dawn?

    We want to be smart.

We want to use our brains once in a while.
Some claim numbers is the trademark of Planetside. What makes it unique.

Yet what good is it to have 2000 players if I can only render less than 64 ?
Why should I care about those other players at the other end of the map, if they're only pushing a lane that offers little choice or impact over a nonexistent outcome ?

Why do you think Planetside 1 remains in our hearts and memories ?

Why, despite it's lack of commercial success, it's still remembered ?

Because it was ahead of its time.
It did things never seen before, not only in the scale, but it was enthralling, well thought, smart.
Every piece combined together to form a big picture.

Yes, 90% of the playerbase only cares about shooting stuff.
But lots of games offer "shooting stuff". The "woah" effect of the first battles won't last forever.
But brilliance, depth, never break your involvment.

    PS2 shouldn't be a niche game.
It should be the Battlefield-killer. It should murder every single FPS out there, by being bigger, stronger, smarter, deeper, innovative.
It should avenge the missed opportunity that was Planetside 1, and bring its legacy along on the FPS scene.
It should prove to the concurrence that the pre-BF3/COD era was the golden age of FPS.

    We want higher standards.

I think an urban continent sounds cool. I would want a massive sprawling city across the whole area, with streets, and taller buildings with multiple levels and rooms. That would make things like Flash races or other custom events really exciting!

I think they could go about this one of two ways. They could do a sort of 'destroyed metropolis', with a sort of apocalyptic vibe going on, or they could do a very well kept, industrial city. Which one would you prefer?

    I want to Rock!

That was poetic and quite inspired. Have you been thinking about this for a while?
Also, with that said, that's what this thread is about! What would you add to the game to make it more impressive?
  15. IamDH

Both. One warpgate could be the non-destroyed city which consists of skyscrapers (multi-story for great infantry fights) and each story should have furniture for cover.

The other WG would be the destroyed version. Toppled over trucks and broken skyscrapers

The middle region should be open planes (kinda like esamir) where vehicle battles should occur.

In this form, you have all aspects of combined arms

I could go on for days about making different ideas.

Another one is creating a 4th faction, that depends on the other ones. Allow me to explain (NS faction)

1- All the NS weapons go to them
2- They have access to ALL weapons/vehicles of other factions in a weaker form. For example: A phoenix with lower range, a striker with less ammo, a weaker reaver

The easiest way to create a true 4th faction

EDIT: We could make this faction an FFA faction

Keep in mind that the reason why you don't see massive cities in any current games is because even though you don't see everything, you are still rendering everything. Short answer is that a massive city with multiple floors everywhere would be a lag nightmare.

^ Commander mode. Top down. Marked targets come up more clearly as symbols instead of dots. Can click and drag selections of units and plop down waypoints. Soldiers should be able to opt OUT of the program (default them in.)

ESF rockets to have no splash, AV only. Encourage the birds to use their damn AI gun for a change.
    +More armor against missiles.
    +Less armor against small arms/rifles.
    +Flak unchanged.

    A 2 seater ESF.

Actual bombs for the liberator. I won't mind these having monstrously huge splash zones and ridiculous damage ranges. Bombs are easy to avoid when dropped from high, certain death from down low, but the lib puts themselves at risk when flying low. Risk-reward mechanics are win.

Bases to be designed with the defense having the clear advantage but...
    +Are powered by nanites.
+ANTS must pull nanites from warpgates and transport said nanites to the base/tower/major outpost.
+A base without nanites goes neutral and can not be captured until powered.
^ Nanite system is in place to prevent indefinite holds on a base and force the defense to push out so an ANT can get in. Attacking force will always try and invade the facility to capture it earlier, but they should know a win is inevitable if they're attentive to the power supply and any incoming ANTs.

Break off the minor outposts from the lattice system.
+Have them be the sole providers of resources.
+Maybe reintroduce influence. Influence doesn't need to amount to faster capture timers, it could adjust spawn rates for example.
    +No more sunderer spawning capability.
+Follow the old hex rule set. Bases/towers/major outposts still must follow the lattice rule set.
^Zergs can follow the lattice and fight in places that support zerg combat and vehicle warfare. Small outfits can compete over places that actually support smaller engagements.

Only if every floor is actually carved out. No game does that. Not even Grand Theft Auto does that, and it's the king of urban sprawl games. Planetside 2 won't be an exception. It's an unrealistic expectation by people that don't quite understand the term "limitations." Planetside 2 could have an urban continent, but we'll be fighting in the streets and across rooftops, not from every conceivable floor and window in every building.

  19. KAHR-Alpha

Basically, once the continental lattice is in place, being able to fight between continents using carriers, warships, and so on, and being able to use landing boats to attack enemy territory without having a warpgate there.
  20. NoblePixel

I think you pretty much summed up exactly what I would want to do with the commander view. Also I think the base system you talked about is interesting. But instead of nanites, what about Auraxium? It's what we're supposed to be fighting over, right? If they added mining bases, that would encourage more decision-based battles instead of farm-based. Also, if Sunderers could carry the Auraxium from base to base, that would make them MUCH more important.

    Here, take my thumbs up.
