What was the problem that the resource change was addressing?

    This latest change has created a slew of new balancing issues, but I'm unclear as to what issue they were hoping to address with it to begin with? I don't frequent these forums so I'm unclear as to what people were complaining about that cause this update to arrive. I pretty much only fly a Mossie, so it actually benefits me since I can just chain spawn them. But overall it seems like the game is just broken right now. Fields of tanks spawning without care since the cost is near negligible. Swarms of MAXs for the same reason. Right now overall gameplay is a mess, so back to my question... What was the problem SOE was trying to fix that was worth creating all these new issues?

    There was nothing wrong with the previous system that a little tweak here and there to stats couldn't fix. They need to go into whatever they use for version controlling their code and revert to a previous revision.

    They went from an enjoyable, 'relatively' balanced game to a vehicle-zerg. The sad thing is, I just built a brand new system that can now run the game on ultra at any fight I have been in - just in time for this crap to happen. And because I can now play the game 'properly' I went ahead and bought 3 months of access to take advantage of it. I need not have bothered as they have changed the game to the point where I am struggling to find a reason to play it.

    I like a challenge, but the one-sided nature of the game that has now become standard is just a tad ridiculous.

    Please, take a ticket for the 'you can haz my stuff' raffle I will be holding this weekend :(

    As the above poster has mentioned, this is just the first stage, and is basically just a framework to build from. You can read up on the direction of the changes in the resource revamp post in the roadmap section.

    One sided nature?

    This reduced a lot of the 1 sided ness by making sure even the losing faction has resources to counter with.

    Rather than 1 side losing an air or tank battle and then being constantly overrun by air or tanks that they can't counter because timers, they can pull and try again. Every victory pushes you forward or buys you a lil time until you're fighting some more.

    It's not done yet anyways. There'll be more added that'll really help, but the new system is much better for a new player trying to pick 1 new vehicle to specialize in.

    Really, things haven't changed much for good players who could chain pull anyways because certed timers, longer life spans, and resource type rotation across multiple certed faction multipliers. Other than the fact that after they win an AV battle... they can have another AV battle rather than resort to farming infantry because no more tanks.

    Just to sum up what Ripshaft said if you are too lazy to check the roadmap.
    Revamp Step 1: Make everything into nanites
    Step 2: Create a system that requires transport of resources to front line bases
    Step 3: Create a system of resource generation from relevant bases, ie capturing the mine allows you to have x more resources...

    Which is not an excuse. You don't release an unfinished feature when the very unfinished nature of the feature causes it to create more problems than the old system had. If there wasn't anything wrong with the old system they should have withheld the nanite system until it was actually complete.

    Boredom.
    Idk tbh, I Don't see any Balance issues myself.
    But what is the problem with everyone having access to vehicles and such?
    There has been many time when I have said to myself,
    "if I could fly right I would take care of that"
    I might now.

    Players are breaking out of the normal play they usually do and trying new stuff.
    Eventually, we will have more good players who can perform tasks that are required.

    Why do some feel the need to have the upper hand so they don't have to be challenged?

    Frankly all the players who are diehard tacticians are fewer in number than those who enjoy the game as it is, A battlefield of various possibilities and outcomes.
    If this game gets too complicated, you would have empty Continents.

    Emerald VS log in and use all the "superior tactics" and most redeploy to the TR front.
    Where is the fun in that? I would even argue VS get bored with GC'n. (Ghostcapping)
    We might even get players to actually redeploy and grab some air!!
    Average G.I. Joe might learn some tactics.
    Who has time for that? Actually some of us do have a lot of time.
    I would say MOST do not have the time.

    Sure, you have those who are all Kamikaze in a Gal.
    That thrill will go away when they realize it doesn't do as much damage as intended.

    So what if the tryhard VS can spam Mags.
    They will find themselves alone in a hex.

    Just my opinion before I go to sleep.

    Except that contrary to what you're claiming, many people here actually agree even this half stepped measure is certainly preferable to how it was.

    I don't care either way, this new system allows me to play anti-tank vanguard more so I like it. I'm just saying that you don't released unfinished content. Now SOE is gonna spend the next six months balancing around this new system because they can't just ignore it until the rest of the system is done, then they'll FINALLY "finish" it and spend another six months balancing the finished system. It's all incredibly pointless and wasteful.

    Caveat: I just rage-quit, so I am not exactly a happy bunny right now.

    The VS just rushed Mekala Tech Plant with roughly 15 Magriders and 6 Sunderers, I didn't bother counting beyond that nor the harassers or what was in the air as I was too busy trying to lay mines, use my man-a-turret and then keep a base AV turret up. None of this was to any benefit of the NC as I was instantly splatted by said Magriders.

    Obviously, I can't blame it all on SOE and the VS and should lay some blame on the NC not being able to organize a piss-up in a brewery at times but it was pretty self evident that the new resource system completely ruined the fight we could have had at the Tech Plant by allowing everybody and their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, cousin-twice-removed .... spawn a frelling vehicle.

    The NC population at the base rapidly declined once it became obvious that we could do nothing from within. There was not enough time on the cap to respawn to the closest base and bring anything that could have made even a scratch on the armor the VS had.

    I have been on the receiving end of some truly great beat downs in this game, and they were fun because it required skill and planning and teamwork. What we have now involves none of those, just grab a vehicle and don't worry about the consequences since you can get another one with a couple of minutes. I have been guilty of this too, since the patch, and it was 'fun' at first but quickly turned into a game of 'who can pull faster'.

    (yes, this post is born of frustration, but it is well meaning frustration)

    Yeah...they'll just fix everything "later." Promise. Oh but hey...they raised MAX resource costs by 100 points to bring it in line with MBT, Libs and Gals because you know, it's clearly on the same level. So...problem solved. You know...if you ignore the neverending tank/vehicle/air orgy going on right now.

    So do I, as I'm never left wanting for things like I was in the old system. And if they intended this to be the system then I'd be all for it. But it's just bad game design to release a new system when you plan on completely changing it down the road. All they're doing is wasting time and making things take longer than they should. If they planned to have a more PS1 style resource system then they shouldn't release it until it's done. To release "parts" means they have to waste time doing things that wont matter down the road.

    The original system was a bandaid. If you put it under scrutiny you realize it was just meant as an artificial gate of timers because the map system originally had no way to be strategically balanced for resource lanes.

    The new system is quite open, and lets everyone basically be at full fighting power most of the time. But that's fine, because it's only going to get more restricted as time goes on.

    Don't think about this as being the end situation, think of this as the preview of full on fighting before siege starts and tactics need to change.

    Still,no one's answered my question. I understand that it's just a first step. What was broken that needed to be fixed? Been playing since release, and now is the first time that I don't want to log in because the game feels truly broken.

    Getting a whole 11 resources every 15 minutes because you've been warpgated was a pretty crap system.

    Just like that mission system, huh.

    This one makes fights last longer and not just resort to infantry spam after the first vehicles die though, so it's already better than the current "missions" in terms of how they impact the game by virtue of actually doing something.

    Ive seen some of the best battles after the revamp. And my killboard shows Im not a vehicle spammer though I do like to drive AP Lightnings. The downside - the only downside I see right now - is that I cant stockpile 40 Av grenades, find a tower battle where we are pushed into spawn, equip a grenade bandolier and spam AV nades down the stairs. Well, I can - but I wont be pulling any tanks afterwards like I could before. Same for rez grenades. I cant find the nearest Biolab assault, stand somewhere safe and spam rez grenades from a max bandolier and then go pull a Max or tank somewhere else when its over.
