If the Dalton is supposed to be the anti-vehicle gun, and the Zephyr is supposed to be the anti-infantry gun, what role is the Shredder supposed to fill? How well does it fill this role? What should be changed about it, if anything?
I'd say it's pretty powerful AV and AA weapon. I don't know about Dalton, but Shredder cracks MBTs and Sundies just perfect. Also works great as finisher after tank buster salvo.
An "all-rounder" weapon like almost all default weapons are supposed to be. It's usable and at least decent against basically everything that you can aim it at, though I'll leave it to the experts to say how effective it is against any particular unit type.
Shredder libs get will get my tank more reliably than a dalton lib. Due to shredders being able to operate at long range. Dalton shells have a massive travel time which usually means unless its a stationary target or really close the round will miss.
In the last balance pass it was re-tuned to be pure AV. Its role was to fill a gap in the Dalton and specialize at hitting fast moving targets with its higher muzzle velocity.
It's an easier to handle hybrid. A shredder in the right hands is a very very deadly aa gun (and still easier to use than the dalton) and it still packs quite a punch against tanks. As with all hybrid weapon types ... there are "better" and more specialised options avaliable ... but the shredder still is one of the easier to use guns for the belly slot.
Shreder can be godly in good hands. Great anti-air if done right, can be super effective against armor. Get high up at 90* where armor below can't get the gun range on you and just destroy them below.
a good gunner using shredder will...well..."shred" tanks to pieces. just because it is the default gun and not all boom boom doesn't mean its bad, it is very good at ruining a tanks day
Its extremely effective against enemy air and still good at killing ground vehicles. Though the Dalton is far more fun to shoot air, ground and infantry with in my opinion.
The Shredder is best used as a close range AV/AA brawling weapon. It can still be somewhat potent at longer ranges, but any ground vehicle beyond its fall-off range can easy out repair the damage output. Long range engagements are further discouraged because of the ammount of ammunition available to you since the last Liberator patch. That aside, given the nature of the weapon, it shines the brightest when engaging air targets. Supplemented with a Drake in the rear, the ammount of pressure you can put on soft, non-infantry targets such as ESFs, Harassers, and even Liberators is unparalleled by any other singular platform.
