What is the best carbine in the TR arsenal?

And which class would you recommend it on? Engineer or Light Assault?

Personally I like the Lynx the most. Has the highest ROF, and can put down people quickly in close ranges.

Jaguar is also good, its a little more versatile and has a bit of a longer range on it. Cougar is good if you want stability and range at the expense of a faster TTK.

Go try out all 3 in the VR and use which one you like the most.

For versatility and a good weapon for both classes, probably the Jaguar. I'm a sucker for 0.75 ADS weapons and with and ALS the thing is a laZ0r for hipfire. 750rpm/143 damage is a pretty standard rating allowing for competitiveness in CQC.

The Lynx is also good, I know some people who throw a grip on it and use it out to medium range. I personally would throw an ALS on it and use it as an SMG. I'd probably use it more for LA but engies with unlimited ammo would fit well with that 909 rpm.

Medium/long range, toss up between Cougar and T5 AMC, both are good and are really up to the user as to which is better. Keep in mind T5 AMC has the best velocity of all carbines.

    You've jumped the shark.

The answer was and still is the Jaguar.

I have only tried the TRAC-5 which I despise, the TRAC5-S which is just as pants and the Jaguar.
I love my Jaguar for it's hipfire accuracy and little recoil. Only small drawback is it seems a bit lacking after 40-50 meters.

depends on your style for close range run and gun with LA the lynx with laser and 2x reflex. For medium range with my engineer I prefer the trac 5 with iron sights and forward grip.

Nice outline guys. Now I just have to find the time to log in with TR Character. ;)

the jag is still bettter, the lynx is really only good at hipfire range, the T5 doesnt have the hipfire accuracy to be useful at close range, but it shreds at medium range, the jag is the best in between gun

I use the jaguar as the default unless I need something specific. It has reasonably good stats all around, is fairly easy to control and can be hipfired (especially with a lasersight) essentially like a SMG except that its damage output is much higher than SMGs. It tends towards CQC more than range, but will do ok at medium range too, and to get a gun that is truly good at long range you have to sacrifice too much versatility to make it worth it unless you are going for a very specific role like rooftop LA.

The lynx I find lacking. They changed it because it was underperforming apparently, and to do that they (slightly) nerfed its DPS and (signficantly) nerfed its DPM. The fact that its firerate is now extremely high seems pretty pointless when they reduced the bulletdamage in the same stroke resulting in a lower DPS. They also didn't tweak its bloom pr. shot, so now that it fires faster but with less damage pr bullet it is now effectively less accurate as a result. It will still function fine as a pseudo-SMG because its basically is a SMG with more ammo and DPS compared to your SMG options - but considering that you can say the same thing about pretty much all the carbines aside from maybe the cougar and the T5-AMC that's not saying a lot... I don't see why you would give up the versatility of the jaguar just in order have a theoretical +6% more DPS. The jaguar better at just about everything else, including many of the CQC attributes that you'd think the lynx would need the most - including DPM, hipfire accuracy, sustained fire accuracy (incl. hipfire) ect.

TLDR: If you can use a carbine, never use an SMG in its stead. Especially for TR with large magazine carbines and the games worst second-gen SMG by a longshot.

I'm not going to go into a rant about it but comparing the lynx to the GD7F (NC) and the serpent (VS) equivalent weapons it is essentially equal or worse in all regards aside from the DPM (which is is lower than all the other TR carbine choices). It's a fun weapon that isn't so bad that you can't make it work for you, but in terms of what is "optimal" it was somewhat lacking before and somehow managed to get a little bit worse since then...

For an engineer the jaguar is great because it does very well up close where you will use it most to defend yourself in between supporting activities but also performs ok at medium ranges when needed. Would I take a GD7F instead of the jaguar if I could? Probably, but the jag won't let you down in most cases. For a light assault it depends on your playstyle. Aggressive LAs that flank and flush enemies will find the jaguar a great weapon as well due to its good CQC abilities, and the great DPM is superb for multikill flanks. LAs that prefer to sit on rooftops for cheap kills on unsuspecting enemies probably want to look at either the cougar or the T5 AMC. Both are good for longer ranges that you need in that sort of situation but in different ways. The AMC is a lower DPS "laser" accuracy weapon with barely any requirement for recoil compensation and thus ideal for a beginner. The cougar is more demanding. Unfortunately I am still uncertain if the cougar's higher skill-requirements really trade off for any real benefits over the AMC unfortunately, but if you personally prefer the slower firing, harder hitting type of guns then at least you have 2 options that are both excellent at long range overall.

The TRAC5 is a good all-rounder worth mentioning. It's not the best at anything, but it is good at any range and you will never feel like you are useless in any situation with this weapon. A good option for general use. Consider it the "very slightly less CQC oriented" jaguar. A solid option for LAs that do a bit of everything or engineers that need to be ready for any range.

Sorry for ranting on too much. TDLR: jaguar or TRAC5 are both solid choices.

Did you run out of thread topics? Or The Grand Snake Ouroboros bit itself in the tail and the time has gone a full circle?

I'll admit I've started to avoid LuminousCow threads as they are rather uninspired.
