What I want to see for Light Assault in the future.

Light Assault is my most played class. I am also BR87 so have put in a decent amount of time playing this class. Maybe dare I say more then 99% of other players?

I never felt like Light Assault was underwhelming as a class. Or that we were missing anything fundamental, but I would like to see some future abilities brought to the class.

Light Assault's biggest advantage is mobility. This is what I think future abilities should focus on.

What if Light Assault could bring mobility to their squad or allies?

-Being able to place jumppads/teleporter pads for allies. This way Light Assault could be an asset to other people by allowing them some mobility they would not normally have. Such as being able to get up on top of roof's, over walls where their Sunderer is parked, Maybe even short distances from building to building to avoid vehicle bombardments.

On the reverse side, what if Light Assault could REDUCE mobility for enemies?

-Being able to place traps which limit the movement speed of enemies.
-Placing caltrops that can slow enemy vehicles.

The theme is important, Light Assault abilities should stick with things related to mobility. The ammo scavenging ability SOE has talked about would just take away from Engineer and only offer minor conveinance in my opinion.

Im not sure what other ideas are out there for Light Assault as I sadly dont frequent this forum often. I wil try to start braindumping here more often when I get inspired.

These are not new idea's, but one's I would like to see.

I'd really like to see maybe different jet types? The Drifters seem like they aren't filling a proper niche for light assault really. I've seen videos of people going on crazy streaks with them but that's not what I mean. I've heard a lot of people talk about Drifters being meant for speed, but what if there was a jet type that gave you a burst of speed, or several and you could just press shift or space to get them? So let's say first level is a rapid burst of speed for 10 meters and you get 3 of those, and further levels could increase speed or distance, etc? I bought Drifters thinking they would be great for strafing tanks to C4 them but the tanks easily out maneuver me with superior speed and their turning.

I don't really like the jump pad ideas, mainly because they would be a TON of work for coders and almost impossible to balance. Additionally they somewhat detract from LA just as much as they add to it.

I'd prefer the ammo scavenging, and I disagree it detracts from engineers. 90% of the time LA is out of range of engineers or en route to a place engineers can't get to. Do medkits detract from medics? No, because they cost certs and resources, and have a limited capacity.

I'd also like to see LA able to equip C4 in the tool slot we have nothing we can put in. Allow us to carry medkits and C4, we're a class that is almost always detached from the primary force and can't rely on support. We need to be self sufficient for a period of time. However, and most LA players would agree, giving up C4 is NOT an option.

I think the real problem with LA is that people expect it to just be another member of the squad, but they're not. They should be treated as a specialist, an auxiliary commando, a detachment. Just like snipers. Give them a task and wait for it to be accomplished, don't walk them to it.

It would be way to OP...
Snipers up on crazy stuff, I could think of a few places I like to toss a max..
Giving our ability to reach places to all other classes would break the game.

    I would like to see:
Adrenalin pump being an upgradable cert tree, topping out at +25% movement speed for 1000c.

    3rd block C4 slot, 1000c.
C4 cost a lot, would it kill ya to let me carry 3?

    Team tool:
My team tool are my smoke grenades, I like them, but I have to give up my normal ones.
Would it be possible for these to occupy another slot, so I can carry real grenades also?

How about give LA the concussion and emp to go with the smoke and flash, then put them in a new slot called utility grenade?
All of these would be useful in the LA that hops the wall, tosses one of these type grenades to help out the breaching team.

I like the grenade slot idea, also like the idea of movement speed being a tree, I would kill to be faster and get to have flak armor.
  6. DiedTrying

adrenaline tree, binoculars...ability to deploy ropes for other troops to climb up?

I'm just trying to think of stuff that fits "light assault" such as swat teams/Rangers.

What I'd really like is if the smoke was buffed to last much longer.
  7. ShumaKun

I will like to have ability to take radar from my flash and stick it to my jets
  8. Kogmaw

as much as i wish i could carry 3 bricks of C4, that might be much. that could take out a Sundy by just a lone wolf, I think coordinating with just one fellow LA wouldnt be too much to take it out

As for having the two types of grenades, I remember pitching that in Roadmaps. I think it would fantastic and plenty of fun
  9. LibertyRevolution

But you can already solo a sundee with 2 blocks of C4 and 2 under-slung grenades, or a flash, so its not like LA can't solo a sundee now.
  10. Kogmaw

That is true, but i dont know, it just feels like a bit much. Maybe for 1000certs it could be fair. But being able to take out a sundy or MBT just because you put some extra certs into C4 really drives forward that this isnt a team-work oriented game. I do Lonewolf here and there, and it would be nice. Just that this is a team game and i feel 3 bricks is a bit too much atm

Just my opinion though. If they implement it, i will certainly be taking the advantage
  11. LibertyRevolution

People who had 2 blocks of c4 on their medic were ending up with 3 blocks on there LA becuase of a bug.
It wasn't exactly game breaking.. It was like that since beta., they finally fixed it in update 2.

Eh, 2 blocks already takes out a MBT, and LA is the lone wolf class anyways.
I'm just jealous of my ENG... It can lay like 9 explosives.
  12. GraphicJ

As a LA all want is a cert upgrade to obtain a third C4. Only applicable to LA.
    Quick examples:
Engies have C4 plus mines. They should be kept at limit of 2 C4 as it is.
Heavy Assault have C4, but should be at same limit of 2.
Give LA some extra oomph. We drool over that third C4 plus a 25% in C4 placement speed.
  13. Kogmaw

Oh, yeah, im certainly not saying it was game-breaking. More just a little detail i see that helps enforce team-work

and yeah, i love my ENG. So much destruction!
  14. belthazor3457

All I want is my icarus jumpjets so I can kill aircraft more often.

...and a carbine ammo cert that allows my bullets to, when used at very close range, penetrate aircraft glass.

...okay, I want more than that. But that's what I want the MOST.

Another cert for a 3rd C4 and the ability to trade away, say, my pistol slot, in return for a 4th C4. Or perhaps a grappling hook that would allow teammates to slowly and inefficiently climb a wall.

I have been thinking about this, because I play Light Assault almost exclusively. I think the class should be designed around mobility and disrupting enemy troops. So anything that can be brought to bear that reduces the efficiency of the advancing infantry so the rest of your team can engage front on. So a redesign and improvement of flash grenades, smoke grenades and the like is needed. They were a step in the right direction, but they are so flawed atm.

Perhaps we should have our Jump Jets as a tool, that we can have attachments on that give us various benefits depending on what we have certed and slotted for? One slot is a limited click able skill, others add passive bonuses? Things like air lifting one friendly or enemy into the air on a certain cd timer.

Outside of disrupting troop movements, perhaps a form of scouting should be built into the Light Assault.
  16. Marcus Sateda

    I like the lift idea.
Maybe put a timer on it & limited lift height.

Example: 100c gives you basic unit that can lift troops up to 1 stories high, or about the height of a wall, & only lasts for say 30 sec. 250c's gives you the same as the first but with a 1:00 min timer. 500c's gives the same as the second but 1 1/2 stories higher & allows up, & down. 1000c's gives you the same up & down as the last but a full 2 stories high & booby traps the unit so any enemy units that try & use it get blown to bits! :) It should also, for balance reasons, cost like 250 resource points. This will make it be used for more tactical insertions & not spamed (as much) because of the high cost.
  17. Teykila

the jump pad or rope is a good idea but HA and MAX shouldn't be able to use it, HA are resistant because they normaly have to go through the big doors, if they can bypass this it'll be gamebreaking. same for MAXs.
  18. Ayre

I don't think LA needs specific teamfight abilities. LA should be hunters and ambushers, being an engineer from TF2 doesn't really accomplish that (although placeable jump pads and caltrops might be interesting ideas for the PS2 engineer...).

However, I do agree LA needs tools. Specifically, LA lacks an activate ability tied to the F key. I think having a tool slot thermal visor would be excellent. That or instant deployable smoke, like what vehicles have. Either would add tremendously to potential ambush/getaway's without breaking the theme.
  19. CoffeeBreak

I've been playing since late beta. Logged on every day for atleast an hour since launch. Watched the game trailer for the first time this past Monday. Now I feel like I need the ability to latch onto things or have some type of magnetic boots. If I could stick to the top of friendly or enemy aircraft in flight......
  20. Trenyt

I'm not sure the lifting should be limited by height perhaps. It would just mean you are both unable to fire back at any incoming troops while you ascend. I suppose logically you wouldn't reach the same height with 2 peoples weight, but perhaps the LA will get a new slotted jet pack feature in their update that allows people to upgrade their pack for extra thrust for carrying?
