What has PlanetSide taught you?

Last night I went back to an older FPS game I really enjoyed. While I was playing I noticed just how much my play style has changed from what it once was. Despite my deaths in the game due to different mechanics and much smaller maps, certain things I did stuck with me thanks to my time playing PlanetSide 2.

I had a huge sense of self-awareness, I listened for footsteps and the types of different weapons that were used. I was constantly checking corners and my rear in case someone tried to sneak up on me. I was constantly pre-checking windows and distances. I no longer had as much tunnel vision as I once did. I would make sure to reload in safe spots. I stuck with my team. I would compensate for recoil and burst fire my shots. But most of all, even though there was no friendly fire I was constantly watching where I was firing, watching where and how I used explosives.

Whether it's 1, 2 or both, what has PlanetSide taught you? Besides every game has cheaters, that you should always look left and right on the road and that every game has a-holes, that is. :p

That Im not much interedtef in f2p.

That most plauers are stupid enough to stay in a fight thry cant win.

That modt pepple are too syupif to make propet use of dprvial weapons like lancer.

That peoples opinion on balance flip flops randomly.

Tjst åeople dont want vehivlrd to hsve vehicle weapons. Thry likr yhe idea of speed and durability associated with vehiclrd but not the lethality.

I bought loads of different weapons with certs when I was a noob, looking for better and better guns. Then I went back to a few of my earlier purchases and found they were actually better than I remembered............in other words I learned how to shoot effectively. I also now make much more use of the minimap and checking around visually or listening to be aware of my surroundings. And I don't stay in one place for more than maybe five seconds or fart around on my own miles from any supporting allies.

    I have also learned that:
    • most Maxes will accept repair but without doing anything to help you survive long enough to help
    • Never to stand behind or in front of a vehicle I'm reparing
    • Never to run along a road in case friendly vehicles are heading the same way
    • I hate enemies on Wraith Flashes and they always seem to have a Fury
    • The Striker is pretty good if you use it intelligently
    • I'm rubbish at hitting anything with the Lancer for some reason
    • I still can't hit a barn with a pistol from inside the barn with the barn door closed
    • My LAs still don't carry enough ammo to operate independently for any length of time
    • The HA overshield is only really a big advantage in face to face confrontations
    • I'm no better or worse when I play any of the factions
    • I do not think I will ever get tired of the TR drill sergeant voice pack
    • After two years there is still so much to try out in this game
    • I reload whenever I can, not just when I need to

That friends don't let friends drink and post.
    • Up x 2

Yeah, people who are use to a 15 vs 15 FPS game, with static maps and predictable locations are always in for a rude awakening when death can come from anywhere, anytime here, regardless of how good they are.

It's a rude awakening for most.

Having ultra situational awareness is a Darwinian trait forced on you when play this game and hope to succeed.
