What happened to this game?

This game has gone terribly wrong (imo). Ever since the last patch there are things that I am scratching my head over...

1: Resources - If I use a few med packs I have to wait forever to replenish them, use only a few grenades and the worst is my tank I put so much time into. Why am I being punished because I like to be a tanker? If I wanted to play COD I would. This game was supposed to be different. I don't know why they are making these decisions? I have pulled 1 tank in my last 3 days of playing. I never have any grenades or Med packs.

2: C4 - I understand it, I know what it's meant for but you can not have a 1 shot kill anything in an FPSMMO (I know C4 is 2 but you are allowed to place 2 at a time). This kills the flow of the game. 1st reason is people ignore the focus of a base capture, etc just to by pass everyone and get that random tank kill. If you give anyone in a game a 1-shot kill option, it gets abused, come on this is nothing new here. Nothing kills the flow of big battles more than C4s on a sundy. I get it, I so but are you not trying to push massive battles? Then make it a bit harder than to sneak around throw 2 C4s on a sundy and a good placed shot and insta kill it....

3: Shotguns - Really? I can survive an infantry mine, an ML7 to the face but a shotgun is 1-shot 1 kill? Again, give anyone an insta kill option and guess what everyone tries to do?

4: Tanks - You increase the tank cost to insane levels and I pull out of the bay and im dead to C4 in 2 Seconds... Now I have to wait 30 minutes to get enough to pull another. And why does it take 3-4 splash hits to kill infantry? If you are listening to Forum trolls for an infantry only game, just do it. Remove the vehicles.

I know you want to prove that you listen to your player base and this is great but you seem not to be able to distinguish between real players and forum fan-boys (A forum fan-boy is that guy that runs out into the open and gets killed by a tank round and runs to the forum to cry nerf.) Come on man, there are those of us who enjoy tanks, flying, etc and we put a lot of time and money into this aspect of the game.

It's the Latticer Disaster, small extremely vocal "Vet" minority pushing the way they want PS2 to be down everyone else's throats.

It's going to be a disaster for this game.

    1)People weren't buying enough boosts/subs apparently.

    2) I don't understand why everybody hates C4. It won't 1-shot a tank even on back armor and it takes 3 to set a naked sundy on fire. And dying as infantry is utterly pointless (Rez grenade counters C4/mine killing clumped zergers, just saying), hence why Snipers are laughed at and not feared like in other FPS games.

    3) They just got nerfed again. Wouldn't be a problem in the first place if all the objectives weren't in claustrophobic locations thanks to crappy base design.

    4) Everyone uses anti-armor round and just aims at infantry (and spawn doors). Also, if you're getting C4'd, you're probably trying to drive around solo (through buildings) rather than acting as support for infantry squads as tanks are supposed to be (it's called Armor not Kill-streak for a reason).

This might just be armchair analytics but, rather than being annoyed at your lack of resources, you should take a moment to judge your own playing habits. It's entirely possible your playstyle is just wasteful and you are only now noticing it because you finally have reason to consider your options carefully. Then there are also instances where that probably was not a good thing to have tried or you actually were tactically out-maneuvered. You should favor all timeouts to consider what you did wrong or what you could have done better the last time.

As a honest practicioner of the time-honored kamikaze Engineer techniques even today, it was never too difficult. When it's really bad, you don't even have to sneak. You can just walk up to the Sunderer admist the "protection" without anyone hassling you, until you start putting things down. This, however, is in all cases the personal failing of the faction who owns the vehicle and, in many cases, directly the fault of the person who parked it.
Also, you need 3 C-4 to instakill it from full health. Two set it on fire, but then it's 20-30s without anyone repairing it before it blows up.

I call shenanigans. You can't place C-4 and pull a sidearm to shoot at it that fast.
If you are getting C-4'd, you need to keep moving and watch your surroundings. It's not the other guy's fault you don't see him drifting overhead or wandering up on your exposed flanks. He's getting rewarded for playing well enough to not get killed.

I'll give you that splash damage is terribly low for almost all turrets. Ever try to hit infantry with base defense guns? You practically have to get headshots to kill anyone.

Things are being change because on launch the lost 1/2 the game population in like 3 months.

Things are most likely being retuned for the launch of ps2 for the ps4 in hopes they don't lose half the population a second time

Overall the think GU11 was about raising the skill floor for being a full time tanker/pilot to control vehicle over-saturation and give more meaning to owning territory for resources. I am not sure if it is having a good effect on the community or not. Some people get spoiled by a playstyle the developers never intended, or feel left out when a change is made that puts their preferred playstyle out of reach because they can't maintain the a level of play above the skill floor.

This. The discussion begins and ends here.

Did you buy the short-term boosts? Nope? Me neither. Ever.

Sure I have the 3-month boost and a monthly sub, but even before the 3-month I never bought boosts. Apparently no one else did either, or just not enough. There is no other reason for upping the resource cost but to get their claws into your wallets.

Dear SOE, know what I'll do instead of buying temporary boosts after my 3-month boost ends? Quit and take my monthly sub with me.

Playstyle? This isnt 12 v 12 or 24 v 24 - You have 100's all around, massive amounts of players. Come on man, you know as well as I do it is easy to sneak around and C4 tanks and Sundys. It is too ez. I am not complaining because I die to it, I complaining because it ruins the flow of large battles. That is what SOE wants and most of us. Make it hard to take out Sundys.

I hear this all the time on here, "Dont drive into places where you get C4ed" - I dont know many people that drive right into enemies only to complain they died.

I think people want this game to be something it's not. It's not CoD. It's not Battlefield. Most PlanetSide 1 players despised those games.

This game is different. Shotguns dominate in CQC. C4 is fine, it adds a new layer and creates an added element of risk for people in their "safe" vehicles. All those things make the game great and add depth, if you want perfect balance in all scenarios go play something else, this game has a different idea of balance.
  11. raidzero

I dont mind skill bases changes, lattice, etc.... What I mind is I spent a lot of time building my tank up, tank skills and I keep feeling like I am being punished because MY PLAY CHOICE is driving a tank. Fine, bad base design, I get it but its turning into COD.

What I mind is a huge battle going on between 100's and random LAs fly in and easily take out sundys instantly killing the big battle. It destroys the flow. Make it hard to kill a sundy. Make it a big effort to do so.
  12. Lord Robert

I agree that, with tanks and vehicles costing so much more now, C4 is a little OP. It needs to be looked at.
  13. Ronin Oni

    Oh look...

someone is sad there is now consequence to losing vehicles...

    how cute

The resource system was broken from launch, they should have done this a long time ago. Ya see, here is the issue, SOE, like always did it wrong.

What they did to resources is GOOD, what they didn't do was adjust tanks accordingly. SOE spent the last 6 months nerfing tanks into the ground based on the old resource system, which never limited anyone. Now they did what they should have done since launch to the resource system but did not undo all the tank nerfs.

Maybe we need to explain ourselves better when asking for changes, SOE doesn't really understands, I don't think they know how their own game "works".

Or do a better job defending the sundy, knowing you can't just spam them in.

Ummm... Taking out a Sundy, tank or any other vehicle in this game is incredibly easy. It is way TOO easy. I know people get butt hurt when you say that because they do it, I dont blame them, it works. There needs to be more skill involved and co-ordination to take out such a big part of the game.

sunderers are only easy to take out because 1) people park them in dumb places and 2) nobody defends them.

If your AMS is parked in a place an LA can get without having to actually run a significant distance, it's dead. If you or somebody else isn't watching for C4 bombers, it's dead. If you're one of those people who doesn't run blockade armor on their AMS it's even easier to make it dead.

These aren't problems with C4, these are problems with players. It's really hard to take out a well placed sunderer that's actually being defended, but most people place them on the walls of amp stations or by buildings near towers, don't defend them, and then act surprised when they get blown up.

I can assure you they will reduce the resource cost some. Higby stated they would be eyeing the resource situation. Its one of the few issues the entire community is up in arms and unified on. I doubt it'll remain this costly, but don't expect a full return to the previous costs, at least on some of the units.
