What happened to these "long battles" we were promised.

yes, the only time we get epic battles now is when we defend a point to the detriment of territory as it's way to hard to hold off a main force and defend against back/ghost capping. I've had a few in there last couple of days and they were great but we did them with the understanding it was a 'last stand' as we couldn't hold the Tech plant and remain connected to the warp gate.

Lattice/sex will fix this but it needs to come faster.

In Planetside 2 the battle is *always* moving all over the place. That's the point.

I suppose you just don't like the gameplay of fighting over a single piece of territory for long periods of time. I personally love that, and it's something that Planetside 2 is lacking. The Crown used to offer that, but when populations died down even it became a bore. But fights over The Crown even never reached the scale of good Planetside 1 battles.
  3. Crashsplash

Leathality is too high, for infantry and vehicles. Captures happen too quickly. Fights are sustained by AMSES which are too easily spotted and once spotted destroyed.

I hope with the new lattice and longer capture timers currently on TEST things will change.

    Hey guys

I posted a thread a couple of months back that I feel would solve a lot of issues, big battles being one of them...

    http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/allies-activity-on-map.60772/

A quote relating to this issue....
"I think a lot of people, including squad/platoon leaders are avoiding "Enemy Platoons detected" areas because they don't have the relevant information (Allied activity) as it's too much of a risk that they won't have any backup. Having this information could lead to larger battles instead of areas with large forces facing no resistance."

I do agree that the lattice system would help a lot but in the meantime, a really simple fix is my Allied Activity idea. Surely can't be that difficult to implement, seeing as we already have Enemy Activity. It would be a way for people to find where the majority of their allies are, instead of just avoiding the enemy zerg.

I'll probably bump my own thread but I'd prefer more input from other players to bump it instead.

They happen on the Test Server. But nobody goes there.

I wonder what Higby must feel like. We complain for months about the lack of test server. We finally get one, and nobody goes.

I've a few choice words about that, but the profanity filter would block most of it.

No XP for defense of areas. Granted, if there was XP, then people would 'let' a cap, just to flip it for the xp.

No for a long battle trying to take a base, although, again, could be used in bad ways.

Interestingly enough, with a constant flow of kills, you get a ton more XP for kills than the simple 500 xp for a cap.

I am interested in the lattice system allowing for defined fronts.

    So long as:

    Bases lack proper defenses
People can drop pod into the courtyard of a hostile base
Vehicles can damn near get on the point
People can set up spawn points inside hostile bases
The attackers have a shorter run to the point than defense
The nearest friendly vehicle pad is less than 30 seconds away
Defenders get almost no incentives to defend

You are not going to see long, extended battles.

Then again why worry about holding territory when it provides no real benefit anyway?

New "tube-influence" system will help alot with the "long battles" issue
  9. sodom

90% of the battles are simply won by numbers. One side has a huge advantage in man power over the other side and if you know your gettiing your *** handled you simply leave the zone and go to another place there your side has the advantage, There is no benefit in fighting a loseing battle.

The installation will be captured again, halve an hour later by your zerg anyways.
  10. PapaSmurf

Zerg numbers, lack of bonuses from actually defending a position, over-powered ****** shotguns and too low TTK.

SOE see numbers playing, not necessarily numbers enjoying playing as it's becoming less enjoyable with each patch & weapon release, which is done purely to drive sales and then said weapons will get nerfed to make way for the next uber-weapon to go on sale, which in-turn will be nerfed, rinse-repeat :D
  11. IronWarrior

This is a lie. Back in closed and open beta there was huge battles with vehicles and infantry fighting each other for hours.

I remember the days where big front-line battles would last between Mami Bio Lab and Heaven, doesn't happen anymore.
  12. LordMondando

    Miller has them.

The battle of Spec ops training camp being a good example.

And people are being rosy tinted again. Is zerging into people camping at 90 degrees to a doorway really that fun?

Ultimately, its one of the things in the game thats nearly entirely community driven. Blame the outfits on your server if its not happening.
  13. siiix

correction a few buildings where fully destructible, most where not... the only game EVER what was fully destructible was crysis1, for obvious reasons this can not be done yet with 2000 people / map.. YET, maybe in 10 years
  14. Cleaver

Ally activity is coming out in the next update.
  15. Deronok

It's coming within the next update. It's on the test server now.

    a=agree d=not

so i disagree with most of you points , none of those where a problem IF bases would not have huge gaps in the wall where people can just stream in , to make things wost those spots are intentionally designed not to be defend able

you defending important territories you get the continent control with can give you 10000 potential XP and you get extra XP defending , the 250-1500XP to capture a base is ridiculously low, i still dont get it why people bother with that, obviously you need to capture bases, but its not the XP but territory control that is beneficial

yesterday i got 2500XP just soothing down 1 single surrender and it tuke me maybe 20 seconds, who cares about puny 1000 xp for a base capture that take ages

BUT once the base defenses are down or enemy established it self , of course they have the right to drop pod , put down beacons.. other wise you could never capture any base

IF bases would not have huge gaps in the walls, then you would need team work, you need to drop in from air, a shield defuser sundy, or a crap load of LA who can fly over the walls in big enough numbers ... currently you dont need team work at all, it helps but you dont really need it

    -----------------
now to the coming system and why i think its a CHEAP solution , instead of putting in depth military level thought in to map and base design (maybe hire an x military tactical officer as adviser) , SOE try solve this problem by making the entire map full of choke points, sure it will intensify the battle, but also dumb it down to a brain less frag fest

I still see and take part in them. I remember defending an amp station for a few hours, logging off, then coming back 6 hours later to find the battle still going on. And with the hex/lattice system, hopefully fights will be more focused, and give people a chance to set up defenses since they have a better idea of where they will be attacked.
  18. Jalek

You can defend an amp station for hours now too, there're always one or two enemies hanging around to recap it once everybody leaves.
  19. EvilPhd

In the past, I've seen continent battles last days.
These ALERT things are not helping.
They foster mass zerg rushing. They drain the other continents of their battles and population.
Still zerg rush and CERT farming is what this community seems to want. Then when they give it to you all, you wonder what happened.
  20. B0bzor

I get 1 and 2+ hour fights all the time. If that's not long enough.... *shrugs*

Here's a couple highlights from one that was over 3 and a half hours.

Granted these were 4 months ago, but I still see this all the time.
