What am I doing wrong?

Got the jump on him, hit him 8-10 times, he turns, and I'm dead in a second.

    First, aim for the head.

Second, you're walking forward while ADS while he's right in your face and he obviously landed a few head shots on you. You didn't land as many as you thought and you hit him everywhere but the head. At that range, especially if you're moving forward, just hip fire.

I would have stayed near that rock (to duck behind if needed), aim for the head, fire while not moving (since you have the jump on him) and only strafe side-to-side if needed and, duck behind the rock if I'm about to die.

I counted 7 maybe 8 hits. Also I slowed it down and in one single frame he is facing right then aiming right at my head. How the hell can people do that?
  4. Halsoy

It's more like 4-5 hits. You're moving the crosshair all over the place, indicative of playing your mouse sensitivity too high.

Him turning and shooting you in the head isn't hard at all. It's just practice, practice, practice. Everything from cursor placement, sounds, damage indicators and mouse settings. All of which takes time. But far from hard.

    Nevermind. Lol.

The guy to my back left hit me he just never showed in field of view.

    I'll reload at full speed.
  6. Beerbeerbeer

Well, since they're all body shots and he's a heavy who shielded, that obviously wasn't enough to kill him. 143 x 7 = 1001, but, depending on what shield/armor he has on, his effective HPs is at least 1400 if not a lot more.

If you would have hit him in the head with any of those shots, even one, he would have probably died. It's a 2x multiplier, well, more or less. He nailed you in the head a few times.
  7. guerrillaman

He hit me once in the head. His other shots were to my left. The guy behind me hit me for 50% dmg. They split it evenly. I was heavy too with shield on.
  8. LaughingDead

I don't even use NS weps over base. They just don't seem to do much damage at close, he also could've (most likely) had a closer range weapon along with nanoweave. Also I counted 5 shots, 2 got through the shield, 3 through the hp or prolly the other way around...eh
  9. Gundem

Either way, with better accuracy, you would have at least killed your target.

Do you know what DPI you use? Is Mouse Acceleration on?

Make sure Acceleration/Pointer Precision is off, then try a lower sensitivity. My in-game sensitivities are at .140 for mouse speed, and .120 for both Aim and Scoped.

My DPI is at 750 as well.

If your character is the same as your IGN... You should take my advice. I'm gonna have to be frank here, your accuracy is flat out awful. Garbage tier.

Here is a useful place to check your character stats:
    GuerrillaMan

And here are some of my character's stats:

    GundemDakkaMK2

    GundemBlueberry

    GundemTryhard

(Anything above "M" tier is top .5% of players)

If you'd like the opportunity to learn better aim from one of the most accurate players in the game, hit me up via PM on the forums and I'll help you out all I can.

You're playing NC, that's your first mistake;)

Your router is going into DoS you missed several shots that should have hit. This only happens when the router is in DoS.
You got to turn off DoS in the router.... it you want to make the kill. Any high speed gun used any time will most of the time DoS the router for at least a couple shots if DoS is not turned off.

DoS is nothing more than packet overload into the router. If you have other people or programs running on the PC on the router it just makes it that much worse. Emails / Videos down loading / music / TV stuff.

If you are running wireless to the router it does not help. All the good players run a hard wired cable to the router for the extra speed.

I can even tell how good your router is by how the X's pop up on the screen from shooting. X's should last the entire length of the first shot to the next shot. If they are shorter, then you have some kind of router timing problem with DoS or a slow router.
  12. guerrillaman

Router DoS firewall setting was turned on to allow 4 packets per second only. I had no idea.

I'll record some today and report back after making some mouse and dpi setting changes as well.

Yeah, somethings are enigmas in Planetside 2...im on that situations a lot of times...dont try to find an answer :p
  15. user101

Ya, the problem with this is that the tick of the server sends more than 4 packets. Every bullet shot at you is sent as a packet. And you have other packets also besides, not just the bullets coming at your router.

This is why in big fights the server starts to slow down it limits the number of packets sent to you. Other wise you get gobs of packets of bullets sent to your PC. Way more than you can process in most cases. In the old days you could see for miles in big fights and the people ran at 5 FPS in big fights ... so they limited the packets to not over load the micro and graphics.

But a router has no DoS standard so every company has a different standard for DoS. And one core router are much slower at processing packets than a 2 core router is. Logging in routers slows the packet processing way down also.

Cheap routers need almost everything turned off in them to keep their speed high. If they have to processing anything their throughput goes way down. So you get (LAG) in the game. This is also why you get LAG in big fights.

So every tick of the server is a burst of packets coming at you... remember that.

Big thanks to Gundem and User101. Their advice might have made a marginal difference. Here are a few videos I pieced together (first couple of clips are in slow-motion). One of gundem even getting me in the beginning...

What do I do about people shooting me at distance quite often? Higher scope? At some of these distances, I don't see any way how I could chain any headshots. Another one, someone came around a corner and was already aiming directly at me? How'd he know exactly where I was?

  17. Ximaster

Dont worry my friend, its all about getting experience, sometimes at my starts ive had problems for find people, but later ive had started to getting better my skills.

Hehehe, feels weird being in a video like that.

One thing, your aim was definitely better. Could use a lot of improvement, but you are getting there.

The main thing you need to work on right now is how jerky your aim is. You tend to yank it around allot instead of smoothly dragging it, likely the side-effect of subconsciously trying to compensate for the lower sensitivity.

To help combat this, the VR will be a significant help. Just go into the firing range, and practice moving your aim from target to target and taking them out without over or undershooting(The distance, not the bullets). Don't try and go for headshots, just focus on getting your aim down. Make a focused effort to smooth your movement, ensure you have sufficient mouse space and a good surface for it. Start out slowly, you will get faster over time. But you need your foundation improved currently.

One thing that might help is better scopes. Ironsights in general are pretty trash, and the HS/NV are nice but generally situational. Try just the standard red-dot x1 reflex.

The final major issue I saw was your lack of movement tech. Within the gaming sphere and in Planetside 2 specifically, it's generally referred to as "ADAD" or "ADAD Strafing".

Explaining how exactly AD strafe helps would take an hour, so for simplicity's sake, I'll just say; It makes you a lot harder to hit. When I headshot you in the first clip, it was because your lack of movement made you an easy target.

In order to practice ADAD strafing, you can also use the VR. It takes some time to learn how to ADAD and aim well at the same time, but it can be done. I suggest trying half-second intervals for each change in direction. In fact, I'll post a video later demonstrating proper ADAD technique.

As for the range at which headshots can be chained, there are a lot of factors that contribute to that. The two main ones are recoil patterns and practice.

A weapon like the Flare or the Anchor(For your NC) is going to have a lot more trouble chaining headshots at range due to their poor recoil. They bounce around a lot and tend to have directionally biased recoil(Meaning you can't compensate by just dragging down). But a weapon like the Orion has fairly smooth recoil, so you can compensate for it more easily and headshot out to further range.

The other more obvious factor is player skill. A player who's very practiced in recoil compensation in general will do better then someone new to FPS games, and a player with a thousand hours in a single gun will do ever better then the previous player. It all comes down to how dedicated you are to getting better.

Choice of attachments also plays a small role, since a gun with an adv. Forward Grip and Compensator will have a longer effective range then one without, but it's not as a significant as simply being familiar with a gun's recoil. A player who's used a gun a lot will be able to compensate it's recoil rather well even if it's stock.

As for the "Turned corner and guy was already aiming at me", there could be a few reasons for that.

You might have been spotted, thus your radar dot was on the minimap and your opponent pre-aimed using it. There might have been a motion spotter, which would also reveal your position. Another possibility includes your opponent simply pre-aimed the corner as they turned. More advanced players tend to do this because it allows you to instantly engage anything on the other side of the wall/door.

Mostly, it comes down to good gamesense, something that develops over time. Learn to read the map, listen for players and predict when people will be where.

If you are on later, I might be able to actually tutor you some in-game if you would like.

A tip regarding your sensitivity that worked really well for me.
Set your sensitivity so that when you flick your mouse left/right you turn about 90 degrees.
It gave me just enough speed to turn around quickly but is also slow enough that i can be as accurate as i need for tracking headshots.

Maybe its just the right sensitivity for me personally. Maybe it doesent work for anyone else but i figured i would share it.

    Something you did a few times in that second video and no one mentioned;

If you see a heavy come out of cover, looking right at you and bringing his gun up, or already has his weapon shouldered,
forget it. Turn and run for cover. You're not going to win that engagement. You have a chance if you are a heavy yourself or if you were a really talented player, but as it is you're better off just jumping into cover rather than fighting a readied heavy face to face.
