So, I hear medic weapons are pretty awesome. Ive toyed with my medic but only in the "hang back and rez people" death fests, and haven't really played with their guns at all. I have an NS-11A from a buying a smedbuck card a long long time ago, but haven't played in like, a year. In the VR range, the NS-11A seems pretty boss. It also apparently has a 25% move speed reduction while ADS which apparently is abnormally low, on top of it's competitive damage, nice ROF, and what feels like obscene accuracy at mid range. Does anything compare to or beat this in the NC arsenal? I like how 'tight' it feels, because as we know, most NC guns are 'unwieldy'. It feels sort of like a Carv. Suggestions or feedback welcome.
Try the Carnage or GR-22. They both have higher RoF than the default Gauss, but there's a few distinct differences between each. Things to note: The Carnage has side to side horizontal recoil that can be reduced with the advanced forward grip. The GR-22 seems to be up and to the right, which is a pretty common (and controllable) recoil pattern. Both have respectable hipfire, but I think the GR-22 is more CQC oriented due to its higher RoF. The short reload speed is nice for each gun, but the GR-22's long reload speed is much higher than the Carnage. The GR-22 has SPA, while the Carnage has the Compensator (though I'd imagine godReaper DMR is what you want if you really want to be a ranged fighter). Damage dropoff differences. The Carnage has better damage dropoff up to 65m, so that further cements it as the medium ranged gun between the two. Oh yeah, similar to the NS-11A, both guns have 0.75 ADS. This is crucial to feeling mobile with the guns. After these things I observed, I still went with the Carnage because I play medic as more of a support role, trying not to get face to face if with a squad or if I have allies by me. Even with the unpredictable side to side recoil on the Carnage, it's still a good gun for medium range with the ability to deal with CQC, though the GR-22 is what I'd recommend if you like your CQC but don't want an SMG or shotgun. Just be careful with your bullet spraying on the GR-22, as the long reload was the biggest turn off for me (I like having my bullets ready quick!).
I don't know my combat medic has all the weapons I actually have uses for right now gauss rifle, smg,Claw, battle rifle and the new A-tross anything else is kind of pointless.
Pretty much every NC Assault rifle is a viable choice, from what I've heard. GR-22 for an up close and personal bullet hose, with a 0.75 ADS movement modifier. Has access to the Advanced Laser sight if I recall, which seems like an odd choice with the 0.75 ADS thingy, but can still be nice. Carnage AR for a bit more effectiveness at range than the GR-22 while still being trusty in CQB, with the same ADS modifier. With the advanced fore-grip and compensator, it is pretty "tight" as you put it. NC1 Gauss Rifle is a beautiful 167/600 class weapon which makes for a good all rounder. Reaper DMR and A-Tross pack the 200 damage so can wreckface when paired with a decent aim. I think they hit a pretty high velocity too, with HVA. NS-11A has access to a variety of attachments which means it can be tweaked to suit a few different situations, and like you say is really controllable. The trade off being that it has a higher TTK than a lot of other weapons (If I recall correctly), but it's still a fine weapon. 35 rounds in a mag is nice. For me the Gauss Rifle-S is probably one of the worst NC ARs, but that in itself doesn't mean that it's a bad weapon. It has access to the underbarrel launchers, if that's your thing, as well as both ammo types. I think it also has a lower First Shot Recoil multiplier than the standard NC1. I don't have anything to say about the Gauss Rifle Burst or the Warden.
Stick with the Gauss Rifle. Also I'm not sure why you'd think NC guns feel unwieldy. NC guns tend to have quite low uncontrollable handling factors (horizontal recoil and recoil angles and FSRMs), but higher sustained vertical recoil. That can usually be mitigated by handling. It does take some getting used to though.
The default NC1 Gauss Rifle is possibly my favorite assault rifle in the game. Make sure you aren't assuming that if different assault rifles cost a lot to unlock that they're better, this game is all about sidegrades not upgrades. Give the default a real try before switching out for a new one.
IN ORDER OF AWESOME-OCITY: 1) Reaper DMR - premium priced murder machine. a luxury good 2) Gauss Rifle - free priced murder machine. Top 3 guns in the game. All you ACTUALLY need in all scenarios 3) Gauss Rifle S - lots of attachments, laser accurate, great gun. Only 64dps less than Gauss Rifle and also SPA access 4) Carnage AR - The most VS-style of ARs that is also an NC-exclusive. A rock solid gun that is also FREEEE with the quiz THE ONLY TWO AWFUL GUNS WE HAVE ACCESS TO: 1) GR-22 - horrible damage per mag and long *** reload 2) NS-11A - BORING PEASHOOTER. NOT NC AT ALL The Gauss Rifle Burst is awful and if you want to burst get the Tross (also a fantastic gun!) or the Gauss Rifle S and flip it into burst fire. Both of these full-auto guns are far superior in this regard.
Yeah I've got a decked out Heavy and Engineer I've dumped many many hours, certs, and cash into, so I know the difference is more preference than performance. But it seemed in most classes cases they have a couple weapons that suck (or that nobody likes) and a couple that shine, even if the differences between them are small. I just was curious to hear people's opinions on the different guns available. I never did even try the default Gauss because by the time I rolled out the medic for the first time, I had the NS-11a, and since it feels more like a TR weapon I never really used anything but it. I'll give the Gauss a toss tonight and see how it bang-bangs. Thanks for everyones feedback!
the Reaper DMR and the Carnage AR are the most competitive NC weapons. Use them for separate loadouts, Reaper for medium-long range and the Carnage for medium short range. However, I usually say find a weapon that works with how you play. If you are a master at the Gauss Rifle Burst, then good on ya. Practice with the weapon you think will get you to how you want to play.
People are too quick to abandon the defaults and that's especially sad in the cases of the Mercenary, Gauss Rifle, and T1 Cycler. All fantastic weapons that are absolutely free and can be fully kitted out for less than 200 certs apiece. Sometimes I wonder if people who discuss NC options even remember the poor AF19 and NC1. It's hard to recommend anything else sometimes because you think "Eh yeah it's good at that, but the Merc/Gauss is about as good at that and better at <x>."
I'm a really good example of this. I dove in headfirst when PS2 first came out and jumped on a bunch of weapons that turned out really fun and just totally abandon the likes of the Mercenary and Gauss Rifle. The only basic starter gun I was using was the Saw, for obvious reasons. But shortly after I switched to the Gauss Saw S, and never really turned back. Now I've got options on top of options from accumulating weapons (particularly NS weapons) over time, and just never really went back to the basics. Going to play with some more often now.
This is me. I used the Carnage mostly when I made the switch to medic full time, then the Gauss Rifle S, then the Reaper. Then, the Reaper. After that? The Reaper. Then I realized I had half the NC AR's auraxiumed and I may as well go for the whole set. That's when I picked the Gauss Rifle up and hoooooo boy, my impulse many moons ago to label it an overrated gun because *I* was bad was thrice bad because that gun is phenomenally UNDERRATED. As an NC Medic it's literally all you need, and it's free. Nowadays I test the relative value of a gun by asking myself, "what would the other factions be willing to pay to get access to this?" In the case of the Gauss Rifle and Reaper DMR, the answer boils down to $TEXAS The Corvus really needs to become a less-attachments Gauss Rifle S clone already.
It seems especially true for the Mercenary. I used to watch youtube videos discussing guns/showing gameplay and I still remember the only video on the Merc I could find being impossible to understand, I still don't know if it was in a language I didn't speak or some insane accent I couldn't parse. That was about a year ago. Maybe more. I'd only been playing for a couple weeks. The Mercenary is easily my most-used NC carbine at this point. Sure, I own all the other ones too (except the GD-7F) but hey, I'm basically never in a situation where I go "Gee I wish I had brought some other carbine." I'm a little sad to neglect the Razor and Bandit but I basically forget I have them when I'm rocking da Merc. Although one of my alts is having a lot of success with the Compact S running Comp/Grip/SPA, that's pretty alright too. 3x167 burst is an amusing gimmick.
The stock NC1 Gauss Rifle is the reason I chose NC when I first started playing (over VS). Besides being absolutely phenomenal at any range besides hugging your opponent, it's got tons of flavor. Slap a laser sight on it, and it is serviceable in those "holycrapHAaroundthatcornerDIIIIE" scenarios.
I just want to let you know, I get the $TEXAS reference. I just watched that skit like, not even 10 days ago on my phone.
Reaper DMR is my baby, the stock Gauss is quite good (I never bothered to use it until this month). The AC-X11 used to SUCK back then.
