Weapon lock is dumb in high-pop CQB.

The entire weapon lock system needs to be revised. When I get weapon locked from people walking in front of me in a biolab while standing still and firing something is wrong. Even if I stop firing when I see they walk in the line of fire it still lands 2-3 bullets (depending on weapon). In a high-pop CQB situation those 2-3 bullets should not be enough over the course of 15 minutes to add up to a weapons lock.

To me weapon lock should be designed to stop griefers and team killers, not punish you for other people's idiocy and lack of situational awareness. I understand lobbing grenades into a pack of friendlies/enemies, but regular gunfire needs revised.

Basically if you're getting weapons lock in a 15 min Biolab battle you're exactly the sort of player weapons lock is supposed to curtail.

Whilst I agree people walking in front of you is very annoying, if you're getting weapons lock from it, then it isn't just other people doing things wrong.

I would ask how do you define Intention in this system? Should you not get greif because you were stationary while he walked into your view and took some hits? How can the system determin that you didnt intentnally shoot them even if it was 2 or 3 shots? How can it tell that the people you shot was walking in front of you purposly to grief you?

If your getting weapons locked in those 15 minutes from 2 or 3 bullets here and there then I'm thinking you must have this happen oftain, perhaps its just a better plan to reposition and let the guy walking into your fire get shot by the enemy instead, and once he is dead your have a clear fire line again while not gaining greif.

That being said I have yet to get weapons lock, so ether I'm just not fighting in the same situations are you or I'm just getting lucky.

How many friendlies do you even have to kill to get weapons lock? I haven't once received a weapons lock so I honestly don't have a clue. And I get that it's annoying that people run in front of your gun but sometimes it really isn't their fault to begin with. I have seen scenarios where I couldn't get out of the spawn room, not because of enemies camping, but because my allies would not stop firing for even one second to let anyone get through. No ground was ever gained by camping a doorway so at least give people who try to push a chance.

I get weapons lock all the time, lol. It's annoying as hell, but I deal with it. You run in front of me while I am shooting... I shoot THROUGH you. It's that simple. I don't care if I get locked. And I actually don't TK on purpose. But I do kill future Darwin Award recipients and people who have the situational awareness of Ray Charles( IE: THEY ARE BLIND).

Couldn't agree more. It's especially bad when trying to play as the TR MAX. The thing is a bullet-hose designed for laying down huge suppressing fire. It's a near-constant stream of lead, and people jumping directly in front of me is impossible to react to quickly enough to keep a round or two from hitting. When that keeps happening over and over again, you're going to get weapon locked. To add insult to injury, when they finally get unlocked again, even one incident of friendly fire for the next fifteen minutes or so will lead to another lock, so you can't fire at all for fear that somebody might dash in front of you.

Ray Charles has better aim than some players

Hit the nail there. Lock is designed to stop grief-killers, but only really effects normal players who then have to live in fear they might get locked again because the accidentally hit someone with ONE bullet. Yes, after you have been locked ONE errant bullet can lock you again.

I'm sorry to hear that friendly players actually playing the game were interrupting you standing in one place and camping.

Usually it's not players playing the game sensibly, it's guys deciding that standing in front of doorways with a large group of enemies on the other side is a good idea. They're going to get killed, whether it's by friendly fire or enemy fire--all they do is get in the way. There are a lot of situations in this game when you're playing in a team and need to set up a firing solution over an area before you push out and advance on the enemy, and it is incredibly frustrating when you're trying to clear an area of enemies and create a bridgehead and some derp continues to get in the way, often saving an enemy light assault or infiltrator who can then take out your troops.

Yeah, pretty much. Door camping...and most of the time doing it badly as well.

Yeah, like defending a generator in a biolab. Or a point in a tech plant. Or defending an SCU. There are lots of cases where you need to hold down an area for some period of time, and allies playing meatshield for the enemy only make that harder. It varies from faction to faction as well. For the TR, our MAXes and weapons are meant for putting lots of bullets towards a point and maximizing sustained, suppressing fire. They prevent enemies from moving forward by creating walls of bullets, and allies who don't have the sense to help cover the doorway or assist by flanking the enemy (especially light assaults and infiltrators--how many times I have seen infiltrators trying to snipe while standing in a doorway) are often a very real detriment and put holes in that bullet wall.

    Seriously, people wtf.
I don't mean to insult anyone, but i have not been weapon locked in 4 months? Just don't shoot friendlies! FFS it's people like you who make me wish there was a siut slot cert line that negates friendly fire. Straight 30% HP bonus.
  14. Gammit

Agreed. I've gotten close to weapons-lock once in the year+ I've been playing. While I agree it's annoying as all hell when friendlies run in front of you while you're firing, and some point you have to realize you must either adjust your current tactic or know you're going to get locked.

Lesson here is don't use a Lasher in a bio-lab.

There are plenty of times when i'm down to my last warning with the weapon locks. But tbh if it gets too crowded i and i can get a shot in i pick a different class, like LA or go support roles.

If i was nc and was feeling particular starved of anything to do, i would trial the phoenix to mess with people.

It's a mechanic that punishes people trying to play tactically, laying down good fields of fire on doorways and chokepoints, and encourages sprinting around, bunny hopping, and spray-and-praying. Those spastic players are the ones who are getting in the way and causing weapon locks and grief points for the people who are trying to go at it more effectively. If you want to see it shine, try covering a doorway with an engineer's AI turret. You'll be on your final warning within five minutes from the people who keep sprinting directly in front of your actively firing turret.

Basically, if you're the kind of person who thinks that the best way to defend a door is by standing in the door, then you're a detriment to your team, because all you're doing is standing in the way.

    Pretty much this ^^

weapons lock exists for the kind of people that complain about weapons lock. The only time ive ever had weapons lock, this includes BETA and playing since release, is when my brother and I intentionally killed eachother over and over again just to dick around. Im pretty careless, and kill my share of friendlies by mistake (and sometimes on purpose) and i never even worry about weapons lock.
