VS MAX Hitboxes Are Smaller

Dont think anyone has been complaining about VS maxes being OP atm so I am going to take a wild guess and say if it isnt balanced its still close enough to not matter. Only time this really matters for infantry is for rockets and at least personally about 75% of the MAXs I kill as infantry is with C4, 5-10% with small arms and 15-20% with rockets (I suck with AV nades apparently and only recently started using them).

I guess shooting AP rounds at them might be slightly more annoying but I am not so sure the AV VS max is that great to begin with?

Anyways separate weapon systems, separate hit boxes apparently, overall still hate CQC scatmaxes. Dont know why but TR are far less frustrating than scat/ravens.

Would be interesting to hear from TR/NC if they notice the difference when fighting them.

Edit: Hope I didnt just waste my time on an April fools post :(

I don't think it matters much honestly.

Maxes are big enough to hit fairly easily with most weapons. They're slow too.

When I read quick I thought you meant VS infantry hitboxes are smaller. I immediately thought "OH THAT'S WHY"

    My thoughts:

"The shoulders and hips on TR and NC are HUGE. And arms and legs don't look as slender.

DBG really should revisit those. I'd take trimming down the TR and NC excesses to make the models more accurate first, so I can shoot around them more easily."

It's that superior aliend tech ;)

Do you know if that smaller hitbox makes any sort of statistically meaningful difference? I also wouldn't call this an issue they "really should" work on considering there are numerous other issues they could work on instead.
  8. Devrailis

All maxes are big enough that it does not make any real difference.
  9. Prudentia

so VS MAXes only reach a comparable level to other Factions MAX performance because they have better hitboxes? so with equal hitboxes they would underperform significantly? is there anything else to conclude from that post?

Basically I'm saying I do think it matters, although DBG are always better placed for priorities. That said, all the major content updates requires UI and coders and they're all working on the PS4. I don't know who would do hitbox stuff or whatever else they might be working on.

I know it doesn't feel right to try shooting over NC MAXs shoulders and keep damaging them. Look at how far off those hitboxes are from the models, doesn't that seem like shoddy work?

First, if you want to promote a thread on the subreddit this isnt the place to do it.

PS2 subreddit has far more traffic than this dump.

Second, the images dont seem to actually be hitbox meshes, but rather a pixel count based on the visible model. (Unless some twit did code hitboxes precisely to all the contours of the NC MAX)

Additionally you will never see a MAX in the that stance in normal gameplay.

Also, guy who posted that thread apparently has a hard-on for finding things to complain about.
  12. MrJengles

It was more the topic I meant to promote rather than the thread but I did want to point out where I was getting the information. I know a number of people don't visit Reddit so they won't see it.

I also think SirKane's hitboxes are a more accurate view which is why I linked them.

Especially in the crotch. PSA: Dangers of too tight spandex!

I've had plenty of rockets go through VS Maxes. The hit boxes on maxes should be all the same across the board

Hitboxes are not directly proportional to the size and shape of the object they are assigned to. They are completely separate, designed to roughly cover the general area. However it would appear that the developers are insane enough to give individual MAXes differing hitboxes, which is a mildly questionable design choice. Really though, if you fail to hit a large, slow-moving target then that's your fault for being terrible, not the hitbox's fault for having slightly skinnier arms.

No hitbox is ever going to be perfect and match an object's shape perfectly. Go stand to the side of a player and try to shoot past his crotch region. Apparently all soldiers on Auraxis have enormous stealth-boners. Even the ladies.

If anyone wants to complain about hitboxes, the Scythe is your target. While differing hitboxes for faction's vehicles is to be expected, the disparity that exists here is plane (pun) to see.

I used to make female avatars because I thought they might have smaller hitboxes. I couldn't confirm if they did or not, because I stopped playing female characters in online games after I got hit on...

Yes, but even those are just taken straight from the game files without the posturing and animations to go with them.
  18. zombielores

TR maxes have the worst posture IMO, they lift their arms a bit from their idle posture making them wider.
VS maxes like to hold their crab hands closer to their body making them slimmer then the TR max animation.
NC maxes are usually in their run/move or reload stance since shotguns don't exactly have the sustainability and they're usually only in the firing stance for a second or two.

I don't know exactly how the different stance affects hit box but i really don't think it makes a difference most of the time as they're mostly even enough to not even notice the difference.
  19. Kristan

Doesn't matter? You guys have to be kidding. Skinnier MAX evades rockets way better. And so what that VS MAX is slow? Other MAXes are slow too, but have bigger hitboxes, so their chances of eating a dumbfire rocket are way higher.
  20. MarvinGardens

But smaller MAXes get made fun of and bullied at MAX school. Plus Vanu MAXes are PURPLE. Who does that to their MAXes. Factions that don't care about their MAXes feelings, that's who.
