VoIP Stuttering?

Has anyone else noticed VoIP stuttering/lagging/being static-like? Perhaps it's limited to certain servers, but I play on Jaegar and it seems like we've had VoIP issues since launch. During the first day or two the problem was that VoIP simply would not work at all for some people, whereas for others it worked fine. Now, since that time, I've experienced issues in which everyone (including me) can talk but the sending/receiving is stuttery/laggy. It sounds like every other word is being cut out and makes it quite difficult to understand squad members. I'm not alone in this, either, because several of my friends have had the same problem. I never had any VoIP issues in the beta, so I'm curious as to just what in the world is going on here.

Who else has experienced these problems? And if a developer happens to see this thread, is this a known issue that's being addressed? It's absolutely driving me nuts because without proper VoIP like what we had in the beta, communication is crippled and it's difficult to coordinate in squads without resorting to third-party software like Teamspeak or even Steam voice chat.

I'm on Briggs and a friend of mine's microphone sounds absolutely horrible over PS2's VoIP, yet perfectly fine on Mumble or Ventrilo. It's normally really static-like and very hard to understand, whereas my microphone is fine apparently. It seems to vary a lot, because another friend of mine hears me as I hear friend no.1, so who knows.

Another on Briggs, whenever I hear ANYONE using VOIP in game it sounds terrible.

VOIP is completely broke. Seems fine in the morning, but as more come on.... Platoon chat goes first, then squad chat, then proximity chat. Servers can't handle it me thinks.

I get the same thing on Connery. It doesn't sound like static, but the sound stutters badly.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone. Why in God's name is this not a more popular issue? Communication is absolutely critical in this game and sometimes, unless you roll with a huge outfit that uses a single Teamspeak server, you'll inevitably be stuck with strangers and forced to communicate via the game's VoIP. In the beta, it worked extremely well -- so well, in fact, that I never used anything outside the game and met some friends that I still play with to this day. I suppose I'm just shocked that this isn't all over the forums by now. It's unacceptable as far as I'm concerned.

Just played for awhile, no voice chat whatsoever in my squad, I would hear an occasional click or pop, and apparently my squad could hear me, but nothing incoming.

FYI I'm on Briggs as well and my VoIP occasionally doesn't work, I reset all my bindings and squad chat wouldn't work but would sometimes bring up proxy chat.... nfi what that's about.

Unfortunately F2P draws in people who don't particularly care to *cooperate* or *coordinate* or *speak*.
Your average gamer now just wants to login and spray and pray for hours on end.

On the bright side, after the Jaegar server restart last night the issue seems to have been resolved. At least for now!

And it appears that VoIP is broken once again, at least on Jaegar. Anyone else experiencing more issues?

    It has never worked properly...
It sounds fine when testing your voice in the menu, but it's always choppy when using it in game...

OK, There was one time in beta where it was working fine, but that was short lived.

I'm hoping this will be addressed, so that it can actually be used, else it's really going to be hard to recruit people properly. (By working with them in a squad w/ VOIP)

Yes we can use TS, and we do, but if the in game VOIP worked this game would be so much better...

Same here on Waterson East US.

I've been having horrible stuttering, crackling, hissing in any VoIP communications I receive. Apparently they work fine for most/all the other people in my squad and they can hear me ok. Mic test is also perfect. I also tested on a different machine with the same result. And tried it between two machines in my home (2 different accounts) the quality is still horrible.

I'd like to add that on Genudine server I also have VOIP issues. When I hear anybody else talking I hear crackling/static. When I test my own mic I get crackling/static. I tried three different mic's with no change(Webcam Logitech C920, Stand alone Logitech USB mic and headset mic hooked to sound card). My mic and sound work fine using Steam Chat (currently how my friends and I communicate) and other voip games work fine (Borderlands 2). I submitted a bug report in game regarding this issue also.

Still having the choppy stuttery VoiP issue. (Connery)

p.s. I really appreciate the new control over the ducking level.

It would be nice to have a separate ducking level control for voice though. This way we could make the amount which voip is ducked separate from whatever else is being ducked. Vchat callouts are not ducked much, if at all, voip should probably be the same, eh?

Ultimately allow us to control ducking levels for all master channels? edit: and per voip channel...

Everytime someone talks using the in game voip my ears start bleeding. Its just so staticy... I usually follow this guy around called Bdog something, he actually try's to organize the zerg. But I cant hear the poor guy over the screaming of my ear drums. :(

Chances are they are either overloading the mic or preamp input. (Unless there is some sort of interference issue)

Tell them their voice is "distorting" to keep it simple, and ask them to turn down their mic input gain out of game, or back off the mic.

If they don't, turn them down/off,

Player information in a game with this many players requires quite a large amount of data. On top of this fact, you would like PS2 to be the front runner in VOIP, not going to happen I feel. More players means more data and less room for non critical systems such as VOIP.

Of course your TS, Mumble, Skype, Vent servers handle this much better. Their target group numbers are much lower. Imagine for a moment a Skype call with every player on a single server in a peak period of the day...MADNESS!!!!!!
