How hard would it be to put an indicator on everyone's HUD telling them whether they have access to the friendly vehicle in their cross-hairs?

For a function like that I think a very slight change in the minimap icon would be more functional - to indicate an empty and unlocked vehicle. That way you can easily see if there is a free vehicle in the area you can use.

I think it would also make sense to have cehicles be unlocked as default (or let players set their own defaults that the game can remember) just so not as many vehicles just get left to rot locked after arriving at some base ect. All this would be a lot more important and meaningful to have if vehicles were a little more limited and valuable though. Currently its pretty hard to actually run out of nanites I find.

    I completely agree with Stigma.

But I like running 100 meters over to that Magrider that has no gunner in it only to find out it's locked for some strange reason

Agree. Having to run to a vehicle and try to see if you can get in isn't good. A simple icon on the minimap or at least when pointing at it would be nice.

Ok but what do we do about the suicidal twitch players that don't check the minimap before they run face first into a high speed locked bus? I have to keep stopping, deploying, jump out, switch to medic, revive, say sorry, switch back to engineer, get back in the bus, undeploy, move another 5 feet and BOOM...like birds hitting the window. You know those little stickers you can put in the window that look like the silhouette of a bird of prey? ...I want one of those! A minimap would be a good start but some people do not even use the little map.

lol, so is this the root of your problems? Having a locked squad sundy and people run face first into it expecting to be able to enter before they get run over? It almost sounds like you are playing on Emerald or something =P

I'd just chalk it up to natural selection. Children who play in traffic tend to remove themselves from the genepool :3
