Vanu and Slugs - the Nerf Wasn't Worth It!

    Vanu shotguns have the lowest bullet velocity, but had no bullet drop. This means nothing without slugs, but with slugs it meant a lot. In absolutely NO way was the Vanu sluggun OP. We had slower bullet velocity and the lack of drop is a comparably reasonable alternative to a higher velocity. Now that drop has been added, we have a slow high drop sluggun. I'm sad because I have 0.5kpm and an Auraxium with my Thanatos and half of that time was with slugs. When used effectively they were superior to battle rifles and now they are worthless to Vanu. Thanks SOE.

    It is true. Your shotguns are worse than both TR and NC, though sniping with a shotgun (on the other hand) was a ridiculous proposition.

    You should definitely get some kind of moving ADS/COF benefit though by way of compensation for bullet velocity. After all, at 40m the difference in velocity is a real deal-breaker.

    That was a silly decision, no one complained about them and they worked for the asymmetrical balance.

    Making all factions the same is not the way to go (death to NS weapons!).

    the buffed the VS shottys and gave the velocity back, now every faction has the same shot guns with different names and skins.

    this was the main issue, people were counter sniping and suppressing snipers with VS slugs. honestly I think they could have dealt with it without removing the no drop, but it was the easiest way to fix the issue.

    They just need to bring the m/s up now that they have drop.

    I think they changed them in fear of how the NW headshot changes would affect no-drop slug sniping and that may have some merit- hard to tell though, since they changed it at the same time as the NW changes but that would be my guess.

    Just FYI, but you may want to tread a little lightly- unlike shotguns, VS scout rifles have no drop and no commensurate reduction in velocity as a drawback (there is also evidence, not surprisingly, that they consistently do a bit better than NC/TR counterparts, from a performance perspective).

    The nanoweave change was a de facto buff to shotgun slugs. SOE was right to address one faction suddenly having a GIGANTICALLY better version of something that could potentially become quite a problem. I would've preferred they lower the VS slug damage or give it Lancer-style trails, but to say that it makes no sense it ignoring the obvious reasons it was done.

    I averaged the stats higby posted on twitter a month or 2 ago and on average VS's LMGs, Carbines, and ARs perform better than TRs and NCs. NCs SMGs performed the best on average but VS had the highest SPM SMG.

    I read somewhere in the patch that they buffed slug speed up to other factions since we have bullet drop now.

    SOE is slowly making the game less about faction differences and strengths and more about which color you want your suit and bullets to be. I don't like it.

    I miss using my slug-nova has a ghetto sniper on my LA.

    Sad SOE is too busy nerfing fun, and fondling the NC than actually balancing the game.

    They could have given VS guns the trait they are supposed to have in trade off for the no drop. That is vastly decreased damage at range as the rounds lose a lot of power as they travel.

    oh I completely agree, many other things could have been done to maintain the no drop trait and reduce their extreem range usefulness. slugs are meant to be medium range not snipers. This was likely just the easiest way to fix the issue without having to do much work tweaking it.

    SOE "fixed" it stat wise, but in the wrong way.

    i really dont like where this is going. The ES Rocketlaunchers were the last "true" empire specific interesting weapons we got aside that only boring NS stuff(and a bunch of boring sidearms).

    All weapons are getting more and more the same so the narrow minded stop whining. We are getting to Battlefield 3/4 level where everybody can wield his M16A3 with cobra scopes for maximum effectivity.

    Oh I know why they are doing it it - its way easier to balance but its also killing one of the fun aspects for me. But I thought Planetside was going a different more interesting route.

    Now they gave every ESF the same NS secondary weapon and they even where too lazy to reskin them for Vanu (something they DID for the A2A missles). I mean come on at least make the Hornets and Coyote Missiles look and sound like plasma weapons for the Scythe.
    I dont want no stinking TR stuff on my Scythe (aka i wont buy it until you correct this devs)

    I am absolutely in favor of the VS getting their faction trait on their shotguns.*


    *As long as the NC and TR get theirs as well, as they've never had it.

    SOE caters to people who complain too much. They are trying to bring in as much money as possible. This is why indie games are so much fun. They just make a fun game without even thinking about catering to whiners.

    Soon this game will be all the same faction with different colors. Nerfed to junk just like any other SOE game. EQ, and SWG.

    All I know is that I use slug shotguns most of the time on TR and was contemplating moving to Vanu after all the certs spent on TR char just for the slugs with no bullet drop. I'm quite glad I didn't move, because if I did, I'd be incredibly annoyed at this nerf!
