I'm not here to whine about how strong VANU is. But let's look at the facts. Which faction will win almost always and locks a region? Right, it`s VANU. I do not believe that all good players play VANU. So, why others got no chance? I think there is only one answer. No, two! i can join VANU, i get imba too! But not everyone wants to play this fraction. I personally do not like anything to her, she looks ridiculous. But if I do not want to lose for weeks, I have to change. That is no solution? Correct! Balancing is the magic word! So now throw **** at me!
I wonder if people say TR are OP will we see players switch to TR? I have no problem fighting against the VS they're pretty easy to spot and very easy to kill. Enemy magrider has you down? pull a Vulcan harasser. Enemy scythe tearing up the skys get two strikers and kill them without even knowing they're locked. Have yet to find a very OP Vanu weapon closest I get to is the lasher but a grenade then shoot always does them in. Would be a extremely boring game if all our weapons did the exact same as each others would also eliminate the whole "Faction Specific" diversity.
Winning alerts has nothing to do with weapon/vehicle balance. Any faction with outfits that has enough members for a zerg on voice, and with the intent on winning all the alerts will win most alerts no matter how weak/powerful they are. As an added bonus, they are fighting against people that realized long ago that a good fight is worth as much as winning 10 alerts, and that sitting on the cap with 96+ is really boring for a minuscule alert reward.
Yo momma! Oh snap! I kid I kid. More seriously, you're right and what I find weird is that the BG does over performing but you don't really see the darkstar doing the same. Kinda weird. Sadly it isn't quite that easy. An av and Saron two man magrider I personally would wager on more than the harasser myself but that is more a function of the platforms and not weapon power. Strikers might work that way if the esf is close in, but at medium/long not so much since the changing shot velocity makes it trickier to lead and you have to hope to get close. NC could deal with the magrider via Ravens and Phoenix fairly effectively also and one doesn't even cost nanites of those options. Fractures and striker aren't making the magrider run away super effectively and they know where the shots are coming from super easier from your red flares! TR need boosts to effectiveness at range for their av options and they'd be good. VS though aren't op they are just a bit more forgiving on a lot of options which makes stuff easy to pick up and run with. Lancer: point and click Vortex: same Comet: same with maybe leading to hit anything moving and not in close Lasher: goes where you point and really the only suppressing type weapon in the game(which might be why people dislike it, but in an actual fight it is a death sentence for the user) The whole crowing of "Orion is so amazing omg" also draws people who want the "best" to the faction because of that which then people see tons of people there so continue to join the faction and it is kind of a snowball effect.
I'll be the first to admit, vanu IS the "easiest" faction out of all 3. Is it the best faction? No. "Best" and "easiest" are subjective terms, but for a someone new to the FPS genre or just planetside VS is the easiest to pick up and get a decent K/D. People also like to talk about us being cheesy, I played this game actively during the first 6-8 months and I notice that the player base seems like it has less experienced FPS and planetside 1 players now than it did then.
Glad to see some like minded people . As a off and on again TR I find magriders oddly easy to deal with and extremely funny to watch. Seriously watching a magrider do mission impossible up a cliff is a great site to just sit and watch. My personal preference of dealing with magriders is often the easiest play to their weakness. Use a Mosquito and it's little adorable nose gun and shoot the mag in the back, run away and repeat. The goal with that way to deal with them is not so much kill them but make them turn around since they cannot turn there gun all of them have to turn. While I keep them doing hover doughnuts some very lucky Light assault is psyched about a free C4 kill. While in tanks it's similar I try to keep only my turret exposed lockdowned and a big enough distance away from them as I can be. Basicly the #1 rule to all armored encounters. So while locked down and hidden in a way that they must drive to me I take a few pot shots learn how they prefer to dodge then aim where I know they will be going to hit them. In the end though I believe the VS are not Over Preforming but are just the popular choice.
I am still waiting for these "facts" you speak of. All I have seen in the OP was conjecture and opinion. Another troll.....
Play for the fun. Don't focus too much on your Empire victories or losses. There are a lot of things to do in this game. Classes, weapons, equipments... Find your favorite class then try to improve your gameplay. I remember the day when I discovered the fact that I could HS snipers at long range with an Orion in an easy ways. Sadly, I don't remember that i could do this so easily while using the default NC or TR LMGs. "Another troll...."
The only faction I find it hard to fight against and easy to win with when I'm on their side is the one with the teamwork. Sometimes its TR, sometimes NC but most often its a VS team. Sure Vanu have a couple of stellar LMGs (well one actually as Battlegoose is an Orion with different ammo) and the Magrider is hard to hit although it crumples quicker than other when you do hit it. But then what about Ravens, Anchors, Phoenix for NC and MSW-R, Pounders and Vulcan for TR? Nope its not the kit that counts but the players behind it.
If you actually take some time to think about it, the TR easily has the best ground vehicles due to the absurdly over performing Vulcan (and even TR players and the devs acknowledge this) and the NC have either the best or equal everything else (aside from stock iron sights, which are awful, but who actually cares when optics are so cheap?). The Orion (and thus the Betelgeus) are often considered OP, but in reality they are fundamentally similar to your standard TR LMGs. The other thing that gets complained about is the "OP" lack of bullet drop. The interesting thing most people tend to ignore is that most of the weapons where bullet drop are actually meaningful on (long range low fire rate weapons) actually DO have bullet drop - and that is along with Vanu's universal penalty of extra rapid damage reduction over distance. Vanu might be easier to pick up for FPS novices, but they absolutely aren't OP. If I were given the choice of any one faction's arsenal and prohibited from making another account, it would without a doubt the the NC arsenal, at least in their current conditions.
I don't think, that VS is particularly OP. Sure, they have the Orion/Betelgeuse, which are great weapons (although I'm way better with other LMG's), thing is, their weapons generally have low recoil and good stats all around, also called "noob friendly". If you have a big fight, there are not only pro players, but also noobs. In fact, I think in a 100v100, there are around 30 newbs in there and 40-50 with a low K/D, or in other words, low skill. If you pit a VS noob with an Orion against an NC noob with a Gauss Saw, you know who would win. VS isn't OP, their weapons are just easier to use and more noob friendly, which is a big determing factor in grand scale fights. VS isn't stronger than other factions in terms of weapons, their general players base is just a little bit better due to their easier to use weapons
LOL, people don't seem to get it... Alerts don't mean jack, it's just who zergs more, let's take a look at ps2alerts. On every server except Briggs, VS wins the most, because they have the most players during prime-time. On Briggs though most players that are during prime-time are TR, therefore they win the most alerts on Briggs. So I've just proven that the alert bollocks doesn't mean jack. Weapon balance? Don't talk to me about no bullet drop or better CoF or faster reloads. No bullet drop is a joke only useful on semi-auto sniper rifles and scout/battle rifles. That's it. Lower CoF bloom and recoil helps, but NC is also on the line with them, their initial bursts are great due to lower first shot recoil multiplier and because of the lower RoF you deal with recoil less, although missing is not punishing for recoil and CoF on NC weapons, it's more punishing from a DPS stand-point. Shorter reloads are meh, they aren't an exceptionally useful trait on guns, but eh, all small things help. 0.75 ADS is good, but completely useless if you dispatch your targets quickly unless you peak-a-boo a lot, then it's pretty good. VS is in general filled with small advantages that clump up together and make something big. They aren't OP, in fact I hate their guns that are all-rounders, because they completely lack DPS and DPM. But wait, why does nobody complain about Cyclone having the accuracy of a Assault Rifle and much better DPS, Ravens being stupidly strong DPS machines with no drawbacks, LA1 Rebel being flat-out better than Cerberus, Desperado being flat-out better than any pistol in general, Anchor being an all-range LMG and anti-everything Enforcer Harasser snipers? Everybody is using top class stuff and play their best to win. EVERYBODY PLAYS TO WIN! NC plays to win, look at all the scatmax spam, all the Anchor HA spam, all the Mustang AH Reaver spam. TR plays to win, Prowl-tillery bombarding bases all day with super RoF CQC weapons. Everybody uses annoying stuff to win, it's called "assymetric balance" and "competitive shooter" for a reason, every faction has got things that can be annoying and useful at times, why do you think people use CQC LMGs for CQC areas? "It's never about the car, it's about the driver" TL : DR ; Mad cuz bad.
I switched back to Vanu after playing TR for a long while. Why? Got tired of all my sh-t on TR getting nerfed into the ground. I also got tired of the over-eager, counterstrike ***** that seemed to flood into TR in the last year. I play on Emerald, and the TR has some of the worst team players I've encountered anywhere. 10+ medics in an area? No rez for you. 10+ engies in an area? Tough shazbot if you need a repair or ammo, eff that, they have some turreting to do! I've lost track of how many times I've watched TR tanks and Sundies run down multiple friendlies on the road. I've even had at least two dozen sunderers swerve out of their way to run me and my group down, for the juicy TK lulz. Then come the guys that send you tells calling you a F@g because they chased your grenade like you wanted it back and got TK'd. And it doesn't just stop there. I've seen top tier, well respected outfits over there TK 30+ friendlies after a lost alert to force them to respawn somewhere else. On vanu, its almost night and day. Medics actually medic, engineers actually engineer, sunderers don't actively move to hit you, etc. Yes TKing does happen, and yes vanu does have idiots, but I've never once received an angry PM from a player. That says a lot. It wasn't just because of the weapons. Maybe Vanu wins more because the players seem more mature.
Sorry, you lost all credibility when you mentioned the striker and easy to spot and the the Vulcan.. OK, you were being ironic, sorry missed that
Indeed, the orion is just like the carv... oh wait erm no. OP no, i agree, big advantage on infantry weapons most certainly.
