Before you resort to such drastic measures(30% render quality?!) Try my config. I have a weaker GPU than you. I have the horrible 9500 GT. I overclocked it. Go check and see if your GPU is capable of handling a good OC. Download MSI Afterburner. How are people finding out they are CPU/GPU bound? I figure I'm probably CPU bound cause my CPU is far older than the GPU, but I'd like confirmation.
MSI Afterburner shows me that PS2 utilizes my GPU only about 50% most of the time, so most likely it means that my CPU is bottleneck.
It should be noted here, that if you cap at a steady 30 FPS or some other frame rate (I cap at 60fps, no matter the game I play) it may be a setting on your graphics card you can adjust. I recommend looking up how to adjust your graphics settings on your card for whomever the manufacturer is (normally it can be found by right clicking empty space on the desktop, for a windows machine), and checking the advanced settings to see if you have the frame rate capped out anywhere in there, I have mine set to 60 because I don't notice anything above that, and don't feel the need to overwork my card.
There's a funny thing I noticed with RenderQuality, I originally had it at 0.7500000 but changed it to 1.4000000 and with alt+F monitor I'm seeing "GPU" more often and FPS is continuously 65-99fps, going into the crown keeps it at 40fps (previously about 32fps) but I haven't gotten into a heavy fight yet.
i have a kindof bad gaming computer with a bad graphics card...anyway to set my settings that low without entering the game cause i get this error: https://www.planetside2.com/error/game.action?code=G25&info=failed ConstructDisplay3D So please help.
First of all, SOE specifically prohibits the use of 3rd party software to affect the game files in any way. Not to mention you could easily be phishing for people's Hardware hash, so that you can cause problems as someone else's account. Props for trying to help people, but doing it through an application is the incorrect approach. As for tweaking the ini file, you can really help your performance by disabling shadows, and setting the render distance to about 1000. You honestly won't need to see past that in 95% of situations. I have come to the conclusion that renderqualitys' lower than 0.45 are probably going to start really affecting game-play negatively.
