Actually I pay my money for this! Game is an entertainment product. Do you pay for low quality things that barely work? Or getting broken fast?

Yeah, you might go to the movie theater, buy a ticket, see that movie is bad, plot is bad, lot of ridiculous stuff going on. You go out and say "It's just a movie", but your wallet got thinner and you regret wasting your money on something you didn't like because of low quality product.

Actually I would say the money paid to hours of enjoyable play time ratio is stacked fairly in favour of SOE on this one, unless some of you are trying to tell me that most of you have racked up 100's of hours of playtime not enjoying this game, which would seem a little ******** to me. So in that respect I would say you guys have had your monies worth out of the game so far.

Also to add, this is not a static product you buy and own, it is not a sold as seen product. It is constantly changing, evolving into something different and new. You cannot compare Planetside to buying a new hoover! If you bought into it, never expecting a few **** ups with updates once in a while and a bit of downtime, you really haven't done your research!
  3. Withnail

I would say that SOE have definitely dropped a bollock on this one, but so what, it will be sorted in a day or two. Why rage over it?
  4. Haterade

PR reps know effective communication strategy. Again, the only thing a PR professional could say is the following: Things are broken. We don't know what caused this, but we're trying to fix it. That isn't helpful.

Insofar as people are clamoring for a statement, they want to know why things are broken and when it will be fixed (which, incidentally, it's already largely been fixed). The PR people can't give out this information unless they bug the coders, who are actually trying to fix things rather than figuring out what to say.

    But not inaccurate.

You are missing the point, as are all the people defending SOE. I can forgive and defend gameplay issues, but releasing what they did yesterday, considering the state of the game and playerbase, is just "unacceptable"--a word that lots of people seem use whilst simultaneously asking their customers and/or fellow players to accept the broken product that is Planetside 2.

I'm a member with over 10k station cash, if you want to question my bona fides, but if it wasn't for the people in my outfit I would've cut bait weeks ago. I haven't cancelled my membership simply because they use the 500 SC/month as a hook to stop unsubs.

Normally I hate the doomsayers, but while I honestly want this game to do well, yesterday showed they may have a point.

I don't want a statement, most of my questions are rhetorical. I'm trying to tell SOE that they are at the limit of too many players' patience. I don't think I'm speaking for the majority - maybe - but I think the fraction of players that would leave the game if they botch another update like this could depopulate the servers enough to essentially end this game on the PC. Eventually it'd be nice to know how this hotfix was approved, but there is no possible explanation that doesn't include them doing their job poorly. Bugs are to be expected, I know, but many of these things were incredibly noticeable and could have been found by one guy without ever leaving the warpgate. That's why I made this thread - to let them know that they have to step up their game in future updates.

welcome to every GU and Hotfix done for PS2. Ever.

As complex as the task is, we've not had a single GU that wasn't followed shortly after by at least one hotfix. No real damage is done, no, but it's a bit annoying if you've planned some recreation time around your "gaming community". Not everyone can play every night/day. tbh, it's a bit like having a builder make mistakes on every bit of your new house, and you've got to follow them around pointing it out and waiting for them to fix it. The odd door seal fine is easy to live with. Missing windows not so much.

I would accept that some of the more obscure quirks wouldn't necessarily reveal themselves to a light test (e.g. the zone crash exploit from C4 on a sunderer), but surely when the build is ready for release, sticking it on an internal network for a one hour internal pvp test would seem a sensible precaution to make sure you've not dropped a big one.

I think generally long term PC MMO players are aware that all companies have bugs when they're continually refreshing code, especially as a lot of us are older now ( :( ) and are at work during the subsequent down time. However some improvement to the pre-release process needs to be planned as I can't see PS4 players giving planetside the time of day, especially if it's a younger and more fickle audience.
  9. Sossen

That's not true. Earlier bugs have been acceptable for me. They are developing an incredibly complicated game here, I'm not surprised that they have had several bugs in former GUs, as they attempt to improve the game. Adding new content means new bugs. This hotfix was supposed to fix things, and earlier hotfixes have done so adequately. But the amount of bugs added this time just completely overshadows the fixes.
  10. Flapatax

While there are definitely people who come on the forums and whine "I quit, anyone with me?! Anyone? Please? I don't want to play Battlefield alone :(", Sossen is clearly not one of those people. Neither is jak, nor myself.

We want the game to do well. It cannot if it continues to be developed the way it has been. That's all. Luckily, PS2 has a loyal enough core of players that these problems haven't obliterated it like they would a new IP/brand, but that goodwill only lasts so long.

Guess what though, you have the option of not paying going forward and still playing the game. Did you know it's free-to-play? So stop giving them your money for now if you are that upset about this. Bugs happen. I understand about the testing should have caught some of these bugs but you don't know the circumstances they are dealing with. These bugs aren't that big of a deal imo either. I didn't even know about the warp-gate issue until I read this thread. Cause I don't spend time in the warp-gates.
  12. chilly154

lack of communication. They gave you a response how much do you want?

    Have you been here https://forums.station.sony.com/ps2...th-engineers-optimization-performance.150245/

Plus you guys do have a lack of knowledge about coding because they're always going to be bugs you like it or not. To come here call it unprofessional.

To many spoil little brats on this forum. Never seen anything like it before.
  13. Izriul

How many times are you guys going to keep patting them on the back and saying it's fine on every major **** up! Constantly congratulating them for "doing something". No wonder the developers and publishers of today can just throw out any junk because the white knights say it's fine.

I'd be far more relaxed towards their mistakes if 1) They didn't keep repeating them over and over and over and over and most importantly 2) They actually had some priorities, fixing these issues that should have been fixed in GU01 rather then spending all their effort in throwing out as much crap that they can sell as quickly as they can. Even that wouldn't piss me off if it wasn't just reskinned resized weapons that's already in the game, and actually took some effort in making, not a tweak of this stat and that stat, or in other cases, throwing the most imbalanced of crap into the game, selling as much as they can, THEN nerfing them. Which, would also not be so bad if they didn't repeat the damn thing and nerf the thing, while then churning out a new thing stronger than what they just nerfed the old one, knowing people will buy it. Second gen PA's for example?

    But sure, it's fine.

Actually my client has been running about 10fps faster since the hot-fix. Plus we get a load of interesting/funny bugs (I'd rather have those than having random CTDs every 5 minutes.) like the Lasher shooting tower sized plasma balls, entities not despawning, etc.
It was actually the most fun I've had in the game for a while.
  15. Flapatax

    They already have my money.

As for their "circumstances", I know they have the circumstances of everyone else in the industry: they have competition. And competition doesn't care if you're "working on it."

The lack of communication combined with the fact they are working on problems that shouldn't be in a released game period (PS2 should honestly still be designated as beta) a year later is what makes mistakes like the hotfix so egregious.

I'll keep playing, but the nights when I have to decide between FFXIV and PS2 just became much more clear cut. And I'm in the paying minority, many people won't share my patience. And they haven't been given much reason to, if we're being fair.
  16. Bilc0

That's because for whatever reason SOE requires you to completely download the test client from scratch rather than using whatever current client & client files you have and simply patching them. Blizzard hit it right on the head with how they simply just patch the current client to build the test, saving the user a good 8 gigs in files.
  17. Crator

Yes, you've given them money because you enjoyed the game so far. You are no longer enjoying the game or have no incentive to give them money going forward therefore you can stop. And the best part? You can still play the game, for free! In the past on older titles this would not have happened as you would have had to have a paid subscription to play. If there's a lot of people that are not paying but still playing then SOE has to fix the game to make people want to pay.

Not certain I know of any other MMOFPS out there right now... Yes, there are other newer games that just came out that are not MMOFPS games that people might be putting time in to instead of PS2 but that doesn't mean they are in direct competition with PS2.You even stated yourself that you'll keep playing despite the fact you are upset with the bugs. I'd wager to guess that's because you like this game a lot and there really isn't any other alternative type like PS2.
  18. Flapatax

Anything that you use disposable income for in order to be entertained (movies, concerts, gambling, sporting events, what have you) is competition. Games, all games, are in direct competition.

The bugs don't even bother me that much, as I have a system that runs fast and a playstyle that isn't gimped by the issues presented. What bothers me is the player attrition they generate. The game is only fun as long as there are other people to shoot at. The "just don't play/pay for now" works for the individual consumer, but that is not a viable remedy for SOE. They cannot afford for their customer base to take a break because they messed up.
  19. Hatamoto

I can show respect by spending money on the game, however as a customer I have lately not felt I am treated with any back ... They really need to start taking this brand more seriously if im to open up my wallet again. Long essays from devs or reps once every 6 months attempting to keep people in the game is not my idea of being treated with respect. I might renew my membership after it runs out, but that all depends what happens in the next 2 months.
  20. Sossen

You're hitting the nail on the head with every post you make. Yes, I can stop paying for stuff at any time. No, there's no real alternative in this niche. Yes, I like the game a lot - when it's working.

Most importantly, they need money, mine or otherwise. I'll gladly support this game with money, I can overlook just about any single bug since the game itself has so many advantages over other games. That doesn't mean that I'm not going to react when the development team sets out to improve the game, only to have their updates render the game unplayable, for whatever reason. I don't know the circumstances concerning the hotfix, but I can't imagine a scenario where they couldn't have found these bugs and held back the hotfix. That might just mean that I don't understand how online games work, but I'm fairly sure that you can upload any given build to an internal server and test it fairly easy, before releasing it.
