it's not even 9:00 Am where you live! here is almost 03:00 Pm already ermagerd! we European people suffer the most from this ;D
Depending on how long the servers have actually been down I'd say they are trying to fix the performance issues since turning off double xp normally is never an hour long process. I could care less if they inform me or not, just get the job done because I'm going to be blunt. This double xp weekend was a joke considering the steep drop in performance most people have.
could be, but yet yesterday was Sunday, i doubt anyone has fixed anything ahaha http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/...r-maintenance-03-15-2013.104545/#post-1396078
You wanted a post in the forums about this, not me. These two sentences are mutually exclusive. The reason we aren't in the dark is because know it was scheduled for double experience. Anyone who is paying attention knows this was going to happen. It always happens. Even if you are a newb and weren't here for previous Double Experience events, you know that they did this to institute Double Experience so you can easily surmise they would have to do it to revert to the previous experience table.
Many servers are now in "LOCKED" status (as opposed to "Maintenance" a few minutes ago). I am hoping for progression here
Just restarted the PS2 launcher, there is a 37 M patch incoming. So something has changed on the client side.
Say what? I happen to know quite a few "newbs" as you so blatantly put it, and they did NOT know, so please get off your high horse Besides, just because they had to do it to instate it, it doesn't make it a given that they have to do it to reinstate it. Or that it would take EXCACTLY the same amount of time.. Or that there aren't other fixes incomming.. Oh well, feel free to live in your elitist bubble
My PS2 client downloaded another update today. ~40 mb. Keeping in mind that I'm not playing and even 2x XP isn't enough to convince me to play (even 5x would not be enough with the performance I'm getting), I don't really care if they announce or not. I just check if anything changes after the patch.
One thing that gets me with the removal of double XP is why it takes so long. Surely it would be easier in the long run, to just have someone flip a variable on the servers whilst they're still live. I've seen pre-beta footage where admins would mess with server commands to change the time of day which is surely just a variable change without having to shut down the server. If they're doing some maintenance as well as removing the double XP then they should post that.
Maintaining servers can be complicated. I maintain some specific servers and for somethings we can "change a variable" as you say. For plenty of other things, we need to alter a database and/or change configuration parameters that cannot be loaded live. I would not be surprise that swytching to normal xp require a servers to go down and back up. I'll even suspect they need to change the binary for that.
