Turning Off Auto Voice

I want the option to turn off video and play only by sound and hud info.

Overall though, I'm good with auto call outs.

I guess if they are not audible to the enemy then I have no real issue with em.

    BUt days in BFBC2...

    FRAG OUT!

    RELOADING COVER ME!

    BLUE ON BLUE!

    Dude shouted everything....

Literally 100% of the reason is that anything repetitive is DAMNED annoying. When I kill a Sunderer, I -really- don't need to hear myself pat me on the back.

I don't gloat in real life, or talk to inanimate objects.

    Why should my avatar?

So um... should we turn off weapons? Their repetitive shooting must be annoying according to your school of logic. Same goes for walking, turning, crouching, driving, flying, looking at map, trees (they're extremely repetitive and also very OP), and about a million other things.

And when you kill a sunderer you are reporting it to your team mates who are close but may not have line of sight on what just happened. That might make the difference of me rushing out there with C4/rocket at ready to take down sunderer or with rifle drawn to mop up infantry. That is useful information. Look it up. All militaries around the world update their team on targets taken out during combat operations.

Are you unable to use your own voice commands, or do you need the computer to do it for you?

These military teams you speak of ACTUALLY NEED TO SPEAK THEMSELVES. That's what makes them better than the other guy. Why do you want a computer to make you better than the other guy?

Because you laugh, you exclaim things in surprise or excitement, you sigh, you scream in pain and so on. Many of these things aren't strictly controlled, they are human, and they make a sound.

    I make sounds voluntarily.

Why does my avatar make sounds involuntarily?

Are you really using that argument? Would you like me to start listing technologies that were specifically designed to make you better than the other guy in war? Seriously?
  10. TheFamilyGhost

Yes, please note all the technologies that make me speak involuntarily.

I'd like to turn the auto shouts off for the same reason I turn the music off. It's repetitive and unnecessary.

Lol brother, you haven't been much into gaming have you? jk

Back in the 2000s while playing CS or Quake I did not have to worry about if my teammates were capable of doing something, because.
    a) Games weren't as popular back then and casuals were mostly a sidegroup, as opposed to today's "press one button to win the game" mentality of the bulk of the playerbase.
    b) The pool of players I played with was much smaller and I ran in a tight group.
    c) I could choose the server to frequent and be sure not to encounter random turds, unlike PS2's 1000+ servers.
Not to mention hardcore games that didn't appeal to that sort of crowd in the first place like Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and OFP.

Don't get me wrong, I feel the same way as you do and I would absolutely LOVE to make PS as hardcore and unforgiving as possible in any aspect but looking at it from a realistic point of view, it won't happen. Rather than embracing and making good use of the available features, the average pubbie will just ignore it and not give a single **** that there are 20 friendlies around while tossing a nade.

You made a broad statement about automation and how it is useless in war. Quoting you " Why do you want a computer to make you better than the other guy?" So after realizing it made no sense you are backing down and narrowing down your criteria to devices that "speak involuntarily". I'll bite, I'll list a few.

GPS tracking devices used in allied vehicles allow you to track their movement, they speak for you reporting your movements constantly in order to make you a more effective and coordinated fighting force.

Any soldier worn comm device, be it walkies or earpiece, makes sounds relevant to you. Other people call them out, you have no control over them other than to turn them off completely. (Just like you can press mute in game through windows or through hardware, do you need more options to mute?)

So what are you going to say now? Narrow down criteria even further somehow? As in further away from your original statement or what?
  14. Konstantinn

Because, your avatar is human. Also your first statement is false. Do you claim you voluntarily make the sound of footsteps for example? I know I'm nitpicking, but it does make your statement false.
  15. TheFamilyGhost

Nitpicking so that you don't lose your internet anonymous "face".

Ok, you win. I make footsteps involuntarily, you have Tourette's.

I've been online PvP since the early 90s.

I can speak on my own. Why do you need a computer to do it?

btw, your post seems OT and rambling, but I replied because I appreciate the bump.

Reductio ad absurdum isn't really going to fly, buddy. If you'd like, I'll give you three recordings of me saying 'LAWZL KILLED DA SUNDY BOYZ!!', except two of them will be the same recording. I'll also give you three recordings of me walking 10 metres. Two of those will also be the same. Next, I'll bet you that you or anyone you find will find it 100 times easier to identify the identical voice patterns than the identical ambient sounds. If you repeat the test with other sounds on at the same time, you'll find it even harder to hear which samples are the same ambient samples, whilst the vocal samples will become even easier to identify... It's human nature - vocal identification > any other sound.

And Jesus, if you don't find the noise of gunfire repetitive and irritating, perhaps you should spend a day at a firing range.

One last point on the nonsensical 'remove walking from the game' etc - this is exactly why spawn rooms and redeploy exist. If you had to walk the warpgate to the base you wanted to attack every time you die, you bet your bollocks that'd be ******* repetitive.

The more important point though is the difference in necessity. Gun sounds, for example, are vital; they allow me to know my weapon is firing, providing feedback on how fast and in what state of the shooting process I'm in (pulling a bolt vs actually firing, for example) whilst also providing me feedback as to the direction of my enemies. 'Need medic!' shouts are also vital; a player is request assistance manually - it still sucks that this involves a TERRIBLY slim selection of voice samples, but at least a player has taken it upon himself to use the feature.

Arbitrary and largely useless proxy shouts are simply not necessary. They should AT LEAST be toggle-able for those of us that know we're going to be playing too much for that not to get irritating.

Yep, and they're all welcome to hear me say it, if they want to. There's just no reason that I should have to hear myself do it, nor hear anyone else if I don't want to. Especially when the context sensor is nonexistent - entirely on my own with absolutely no friendlies within literally hundreds of metres... 'That's one less MAX.' ********. It also kills immersion when your character seems to be able to say that in such a James Bond-esque fashion whilst in fact you're still half way through a clip or sprinting headlong for cover.

And yes, it's standard practice in the military to update your team on targets taken out during combat operations. We're all able to do that via comms though, which doesn't involve the same repetitive non-context-sensitive smarmy voiceover ********... We're also able to choose not to do it. I'm pretty freaking sure that no one has ever slit the throat of a sentry when acting alone and promptly patted themselves on the back over the radio with another sentry only 5 metres ahead. Only in PS2.

Re-read what I've said and no, you haven't been involved in online gaming since the 90s if you haven't noticed the downfall that lead to design choices like that.

the voices are fine,in fact i barely notice them, but it is nice when im a max trying to find an engi to fix me, and someone pulls out their repair device and says let me repair you, or when they guy behind me reloads, otherwis i really dont notice them
