Tunnels, Pain Fields and Getting run over by stationary vehicles... Reactions to the patch.

Alright, first of all, I do like the new patch as a whole. The new-looking buildings are pretty neato, for one!

Unfortunately, there's more than a few things that aren't so good. And were sufficiently annoying for me to create an account just to post about them. (Played since beta) Anyway, in no particular order:

    Colours
They're really washed out! I decided to use empire-specific colours, but couldn't tell the difference between the red/purple/blue! I've ended up making TR yellow, VS pink and NC green, just to have enough difference between them for me to be able to tell which faction they are quickly. Although squad leaders are yellow as well, so it's not a perfect solution...

    Tunnels
Nice idea, but they're not exactly well implemented... I can't travel back along a tunnel, for one, and it would be nice to be told a little about where each tunnel actually leads... they're just kinda meh at the moment. Instead of having them being quite so extensive, perhaps have them simply lead to nearby adjacent buildings, instead of directly to objectives.

    New Buildings + Pain Fields
As I said above, props for the new buildings. They're pretty awesome. Unfortunately, the pain fields attached to them aren't quite so awesome. As a LA, it's quite annoying to land on the ledge in front of you... and promptly have to run to save your life. I'd probably just keep the pain fields limited to the enemy-only areas. They don't even stop enemies that well. I just jet on to them, kill a few enemies and jump off before it cuts into my health.

Auto Resupply & Can't look down
Now I know these problems aren't new to the patch, but I thought I'd mention them anyway. Auto resupply for grenades and the like does nothing! Which is a right pain. Also, I can't look directly down (or up, I believe). Am I incapable of looking at my feet? Or, perhaps killing the enemy directly below me?

    Health bars
They appear to have disappeared. Some of the time. I'm not exactly sure what's going on, truthfully, but if they could be clearly displayed, it would make things a lot easier!

Getting run over by stationary vehicles
Now this has to be the most annoying of the recent changes. I recognise that you're trying to make vehicle run-overs work better, but this is ridiculous. If I jump on top of a friendly vehicle and it moves slightly, I get mashed, from full shields to 2/3 health, if I'm lucky. And practically the instant I so much as poke an enemy vehicle I can splattered into bits of ex-Vanu. And as an LA, I spend quite a lot of time jumping onto enemy vehicles to C4 them. I now spend quite a lot of time jumping onto enemy vehicles to get gibbed, without them even moving!
The worst example of this was when I jetted onto the top of an enemy turret. (An AV one, not the kind the engie places.) And guess what? Instagibbed. Those things can't even move!

Nonetheless, nice work for the positive changes! Anyone else got any stationary-vehicle-gibbing stories to tell? Or other general woes to add?

Message of the day has also been broken since launch.

Meh i am done hearing all the new bugs and un fixed bugs after update.

    Ima go outside
  3. Tvayumat

Much like Game Update 1 and the UES, this latest development hits us not with a bang but with a sickly wheeze.

    Thoroughly underwhelming and uninspiring, SOE.

  4. Trevophoria

(To be fair, I got run over by a stationary vehicle on Friday before the patch happened.)
  5. NewSith

Not exactly a wise proposal, since these building will just be camped by vehicles and that will remove the whole purpose of the tunnels.
  6. Goodkat

Yeah, my deployed Sunderer has been running over people (and giving me grief warnings) long before this patch, so that is not new.
  7. Aekkel

Camping shouldn't necessarily be a problem. If you just have 4 short-range tunnels, perhaps one of them leading to the outer wall for amp stations, then it's still several times the amount of area to cover as a camper. Buildings have several exits, including places to fire from on the roof, so I reckon it would fix the problem well enough.

With regards to vehicles, I've been using vehicles pretty extensively pre-patch, and it's only know I've noticed the problems... at the very least I think their roadkill-ness has been increased, although it's true that it was pretty damn easy to get friendly roadkills before anyway.

    Tunnels:
Dont fit into the game. Why ? Because they are just "teleport" routes to bring the defenders quick from the spawn to the fight. They have been implemented to repair the not working base fight system. I would appreciate them if they would improve the fight in the bases but they don't. Why ? If im an attacker at a specific point i just want to hold the base and dont want "beat on moles"...

Tunnels would be better when: Both factions - attackers and defenders - could access them and they would be more nested with doors and corners.. boxes and so on - and: with no elevator inside.

Btw: Why are so little stairs in the game ? The base fights could just win if there were more stairs then elevators.....

    Colors:
I dont have to add anything here. System was better before patch - all said !

    Barricades on flight pads:
Dont fit into the game !!!! Why should an owner of a biolab build things only attackers have advantage of ??? Windows in the teleporter rooms in the biolabs are as superfluos.....

Its too easy to capture bases !! Bases have to redesigned.... Those fixes brought with the new "Game Update" made situation more and more worse. This is not a paintball but a war simulation !

I believe that auto supply only works when you run completely out. It does not keep all your consumables at 40 each. I think that this is a common misunderstanding. If you have zero nades and go to a terminal and have resources it should buy the nade or two or three if you have certed for them.

I have not yet seen the tunnels or found the pain fields so no comment other than my outfit was saying you can place turrets on top of the shields and instakill people or drive tanks over some of the openings....

They failed to remove the ability to go down in the Crown spawn room...This spawn room is duplicated in other similar towers. Did they just miss the Crown or all of them. If you go down you are stuck in a room with no doors and no way to leave.
  10. NovaAustralis

Agree. I have to constantly monitor my grenade, bouncing betty, restore kits to re-fill them.

Agree. WTF SOE? This has cost me kills when sniping from above. Do all of the soldiers on Auraxis have bad backs?
  11. Talizzar

I think Higby mentioned some reasons for lack of stairs in some places. I don't recall where or why though and don't have the time to search four other places of Higby posts to find it.

I would also like to know why I can't shoot straight down. I bet it is because a piece of your toon is there and you would be shooting yourself.
  12. Daioh

to stop stair camping, it was a big problem in PS1
  13. The Shermanator

Have you people just not played this game before? You couldn't shoot straight down before this patch. I believe it had something to do with light assaults.

Shooting a fully automatic weapon straight up doesn't make much sense either, and if they have not removed that I hope they do.

I played PS1 and the stair fights in the towers were one the highlights. ;-) Loved it. Strange reason.... You can camp in many situation.... Roofs, Towers and so on...
  15. Acutus

I got a good one for you! Your own pain fields kill you! Yup not even kidding, spawned at Vanu Archives and guess what, my own base thinks i'm an enemy...oh the joy!
  16. NewSith

It was conner camping. Stairways themselves are no issue at all. If somebody took a PS1 tower for example and extended the stairway length by two, the camping wouldn't have been as heavy.
  17. HubschrauBaer

We played as a professional organized military style outfit in PS1. Our profession was the infantry fight ( less flight and tanks - mostly infantry ). Those "surprises" as campers are - and there are not so many campers - are the salt in this game.... ;-)

I absolutely hate the color scheme changes. If you want empire specific it turns all TR red, which for the last 3 months you've been conditioned into seeing red on the map as an enemy, if you change it to ally vs. enemy it turns all consoles, cap points, progress bars and everything blue, and makes it look like it is NC owned. Please change it back the way it was, I don't know why it needed messing with in the first place.
  19. camdawg

carv got a new sound and its better now
    TR smg is cool too
  20. Reibin

I would like the warpgate rotation removed and put back where they were, not needed. not useful. so in TR on indar have a advantage. thats life. now if at somepoint we can fight for control of the gates we own, i am all for that. this weekly mad hatter stuff just doesnt fit to me
