So today this guy instagibs me by headshot 4 times in a row, and I send him a tell saying turn off the aimbot. He was on a 17 kill streak, 14 by headshot. He sends me a link to his twitch feed. I check it out and it has instructions on how to modify your ini file, how to run a third party overlay (reticle) and some graphics software that he runs that makes people easier to see. He says that he isn't a hacker though. He is just a "gamer." His computer is super cutting edge, and his download speed is 7 times mine, but his upload speed is strangely the same. So I ask around. Some people say he is a hacker because he runs third party software. Others say he is just "exploiting" the game. Others just say he is a gamer using normal gaming options, that a hacker is someone that uses a certain set of programs, Aimbot, wallhack etc... Now I find that there are "hackers" "scriptkiddies" and MLG progamers. Your okay if you use a macro that uncloaks fires and recloaks, because that's not a "hack." I'm an old retired Army officer, I don't see that difference. If you use something that gives you an unfair advantage, you are cheating. What is your take on this?
It's really just the Devs not having a clear position on this. There are some things that they simply cannot check. For instance, you could create a "crosshair overlay" simply by putting a small dot of gum in the center of your monitor. That's why they have so far allowed crosshair overlays. I think editing .ini files are in a similar sort. I've even seen screenshots of "hardcore" PS2 gamers who have reduced almost everything to wireframes. It's weird. Anyhow, my take on it is that people cheat unless they think they will get caught. It's just human nature. Sad that it happens, but there you go.
As long as its just overlays and nothing that messes with game files or injects anything into the game it's fair game as far as I understand it. As for upload and download speeds are concerned they don't really matter all that much. Only thing that matters is ping.
That's what I call a hurriedly put together story from an ageing imagination. I think something went off in your helmet.
Sounds like he is just exploiting the rules and living on the edge of what's allowed. I have problems seeing the reticule sometimes (because of the bug that makes my game extremely bright, almost completely white), so i would love to be able to use a crosshair overlay. But ever since i heard of people getting banned for things like teamspeak overlay, i havent dared to use anything. I spent a week trying to get some sort of official confirmation before i installed recursion. I also asked about crosshair overlays, and they said "we cant guarantee that you wont be banned for it" "script kiddie" is just the technical term for people who download and run 3rd party cheating software like aimbots. When people talk about hackers in ps2, they are really talking about script kiddies. Never heard about that. Would be interesting to know what it is, because its sounds shady. I have heard of people getting banned for macro's, so if anyone admits to that, take a screenshot of what they said and send it to DBG. Most notably people who made the repeater and SABR fire at its maximum possible speed.
Lower settings reduces the clutter on your screen. Crosshair overlays are allowed. Combine this with battle hardened 4 implant and your aim will improve a lot compared to someone who doesn't have all this. Also, this game does not have a bracket system to prevent good players farming new players. Can you imagine how ****** up CSGO would be if all the good players would be allowed to fight new players? It's one of the reasons new players quit this game very often.
Crosshair overlay seems fine, making people stand out doesnt. And it doesnt explain constant headshots. Constant headshots require either stupidly good aim or aimbot and latter is more likely cuz anybody can use it. Unfortunately its not possible to identify subtle hackers. I could be half-blind, use aimbot on and off, get killstreaks like Mustarde, and all whiteknights would defend me, cuz its possible to be that good. I could have topographical cretinism, use teleport hack, become sneakiest bastard on server and be safe since its very possible to be just good at that. Anybody with above average stats can be hacker and we'll never know. But you can be more or less sure I'm not really a hacker, cuz my stats suck. On another thought, I could be be a hacker, using cheats to not suck even more. No way to tell, just get over it.
Complete and total bullsh!t. SOE posted the code of conduct on Nov 20, 2012: https://forums.daybreakgames.com/ps2/index.php?threads/code-of-conduct-for-ps2.47127/ http://help.station.sony.com/app/an...sion/L3RpbWUvMTM2MTU2NjExNS9zaWQvSjlRRnF3amw= And cheating is not "human nature". Last time I checked, I am human and I would rather drop dead than lower myself to the pathetic depth of cheating in a game. You, thankfully, do not speak for the entirety of humanity.
Any time where players can add 3rd party software to radically improve their performance, and it's legal, I blame the Devs for not providing that by default in the game. Keeping it out of the game just pushes players to abandon the Dev game, put Devs and players on different games, and punishes those who don't deviate or who are ignorant. Sloppy practices or sloppy adherence to practices creates a sloppy game. And we all know that PS2 went well past being a sloppy game a LONG time ago. Side note, SOE had a history of catering Development to the "cool kids club" of elite organized players who were the most successful at the gameplay that the Devs wanted players doing. This extended both to content creation, gameplay rewards, and allowance to implement 3rd party software. All of that was terrible and a mess in terms of affecting the game and other players. I think it's individually based. Affected by any number of factors/sources/etc. And then combining all those people into the same game... as player AND as Devs... and it's one heck of a messy situation.
Uh huh... and where does it say on there that crosshair overlays are not allowed? Or that .ini tweaking is also forbidden? That's what I mean by lack of clarity. There is a code of conduct, but the ToS have been watered down because the Devs have come out and explicitly said that many things which would seem to violate the ToS are actually okay. This in turn allows people to start doing things that are borderline violations. Had the Devs come out and said, "hey, crosshair overlays are not allowed because they are third party software that affect gameplay", then the ToS would be strengthened. But they did the opposite. It would be like if we had a law against wearing hats in a classroom, but then the president came out and said it was okay to wear some types of hats some of the time in a classroom. This sabotages the law because it opens it up for interpretation. Psh. Don't get all high-and-mighty. People cheat. On everything. You're telling me you've never done anything "the easy way" before? Do you walk everywhere instead of taking a car? Do you look up everything in a paper dictionary instead of using computerized spellcheck? It is, in fact, human nature to take the easy route if there are no or low costs to taking that route.
I find this hilarious as speed = / = quality and the game uses about <0.1% of the average internet bandwidth to run.
If you editing any file of game or adding overlay or third party program then you are just cheater, hacker dip**** kid it's really simple.
