Good afternoon everyone. Hopefully won't take too much time on this. Inf is my primary class, and I've given it a goodly bit of playtime. I freaking love it and I absolutely love sniping more than anything else in the game right now. I've got a heavy chunk of certs to burn right now, and I'm open for suggestions on where to spend them (I'm going to be asking the same in the HA and Veh forums too). I always like to get better ideas and check in with people that are better players to make sure I'm on the right track.

Here's my character info on EQ2 Players:

...and here's my list of weapons and certs.

    INFILTRATOR
    Utility: Medkit
    Passive: Term Hacking 3
    Tool: Retcon 3
    Ability: Hunter Cloaking Device 4
    Suit: Nanoweave Armor 4
    Utility: Claymore 1
    Grenade: Frag, 1

    WEAPONS
RAMS .50M: APS (10x), Forward Grip
Armistice: Softpoint, Suppressor, RTA Reflex, Forward Grip (rarely used)
    Commissioner

Almost all of my time in as an Inf is with the RAM .50. I like to think that I'm a pretty decent shot, not great, not terrible. My motto is if it isn't a headshot it's probably not worth taking. I love to feast on engies and rocket troops, and sniper vs sniper tends to be the most intense fighting.

I'm also a lone wolf style guy. I'm sure I could do more as a member of a squad or an outfit, but I've got a hard time taking orders and normally I just want to get on and frag as many targets as possible. I may look into getting into an outfit soon but right now I don't feel like I need to.

Open for any weapon, cert, or other advice and suggestions.
    Good hunting, TR's. :)

Personally I use the upgraded laser pointer on my SMG: I fire from the hip without aiming, that's much easier and precise. I have a NV optics for night actions.

I recommend you to cert another Claymore: you might need it to protect your sniping spot. And I would try to max the recon dart: I spam it all the day it grants some xp and it can be important to spot enemies coming to take you down before they get you. It might really help you to escape before they find you.
Of course you have to max Nanoweave and the Hunter Device.

In time, if you want to try something challenging, buy a close quarter sniper rifle like the KSR-35 and test your skills at sniping at very close range. That's very hard but so satisfying!

First off max that hunter cloak. That's rule one in infiltrator land. Beyond that since you have the basics there's some personal preference but Terminal Hacking and Recon Dart are probably the next two most useful. Terminal hacking is mostly useful for groups and pulling sundies inside bases but it also works well on turrets for massacring vehicles and for quick resupply in enemy territory. Recon Dart meanwhile proves to be absolutely amazing at the higher ranks, 5 darts + 50m detection zone with a quick update time means you can light up entire bases with ease. Nanoweave 5 is also fun, it's a little better than nano 2 on other classes so at range you can laugh in other infiltrators faces when you survive that initial headshot. After that, second claymore is useful but not a huge deal and EMP grenades are nice for assisting in the clearing of groups of enemies but neither of those is a massive change, it also doesn't hurt to max out the number of medkits you can carry for all classes.

For weapons, get an extended mag or laser sight on that Armistice. Foregrip is about as useful as the flashlight on that thing since anyone you'll be shooting at is close enough that a little side to side recoil isn't going to throw off your aim.

For bolt-actions there's a good selection of us who prefer the SR-7 for its faster fire rate. Bullet drop isn't much worse and the increased damage on the RAMS is more or less a gimmick in my opinion so it's worth trying the SR-7 in VR and an in-game trial to see if you like it.

I'd max out the cloak first, then the darts. Don't forget to give your vehicles a little love: wraith cloak for the flash, ejector seat for the mossie and SAM for the sunderer - these will help you behind enemy lines.

If you can afford it then NW5 is a must. It looks like you've not using grenades/mines that much so I'd cert into more medkits before those.

    Hope this helps!

First off, I agree with AnuErebus that you should max out Hunter Cloak first. Hunter Cloak is such a major part of all Infiltrator play styles, and maxing it makes you a lot more effective.

For Extreme Range Sniping, Nanoweave 5 + 2-3 MedKits is pretty insane. It allows you to sit out in the field for extended periods, even taking headshots from enemy Snipers (just cloak and run away to a safe spot, then MedKit back up to full health). So if you really want to focus on upping your very long range Sniping, spend the Certs here.

For all other Infiltrator situations I typically run Flak Armor 3 + 2 Personnel Mines. Flak Armor 3 will survive a Personnel Mine and it's good vs. Vehicle attacks. (Nanoweave 5 is great for stopping OHK from other Snipers from long range, but it won't save an Infiltrator from 1 Personnel Mine) Flak Armor 3 is pretty cheap so that's an easy choice, but I don't like the TR Personnel Mine so it's up to you whether to bother with that or not.

I also agree with what has already been said about Recon Dart. Recon Dart starts to get extremely good at levels 5 & 6. At those levels you have more darts, with bigger ranges, that last longer. At those levels it really opens up the option to use the Tool full time and literally majorly help change whole battles (by alerting your team to either [1] where the enemy is and how to attack them or [2] which areas are empty of enemies and safe to advance quickly through) without having to have a dedicated re-Supply source 1m from where you're firing them. If you have the Certs to get level 5 or 6 in the Recon Dart and you think you'd enjoy that kind of gameplay, it's totally worth doing. (I love my Recon Dart level 6) I typically like to use SMG while doing Recon Dart duty (for when I run into the enemy, but if I am behind a 1-way Spawn Shield doing Recon Dart I will often use a Bolt Action so I can Snipe whoever shows up camping the Spawn Room.

If you don't have it, Sunderer with Vehcile Stealth 1 and Advanced Mobile Station is great for hacking a Vehicle Terminal and majorly helping change or initiate whole battles. Make sure to get the level 1 Ammo and Zoom for each gun to since they are only 1 Cert each.

I also have a Flash with Wraith (level 2), a Flash with Scout Radar (level 4) + Stealth (level 1), and an ESF with Stealh (level 1) + Ejector Seat. I rarely use the Wraith or ESF, since I prefer to use the current re-deploy or Instant Action (always using the Hotkey <Home> so I can see where it's gonna go and then check it on the map to see if I want to go there). I use the Flash with Scout Radar sometimes (especially when Defending inside a shielded larger base), but since I got Recon Dart maxed and because the battles with Lattice make deploying a Flash often more difficult, I often don't bother with my Flash with Scout Radar.

Also, as OldMaster80 said, I like using the Advanced Laser Sight on my SMG. (but I make sure to hit <L> to turn off the laser from showing up while still getting the laser benefits)

In summation: get what fits the style of play you like the most:
    * Max Hunter Cloak. It improves every aspect of Infiltrator play.
    * If you LOVE very long range Sniping, then Nanoweave 5 + 3 Medkits is great.
    * If you want to play closer to the action and affect the battle, Recon Tool 5 & 6 are great. Also, I would suggest getting Flak Armor 3.
    * If you don't already have a Sunderer with Vehcile Stealth 1 and Advanced Mobile Station, and you think you would enjoy starting battles or changing battles by spawning and deploying them at key times and places, I suggest doing this. (and it's pretty cheap)

Just going to ask a relevant question..

Armistice or Hailstorm, and why? :p
  7. DrTeeth

As the others have said, max stealth then darts. After that I would save for Nanoweave 5 so you can tank head shots. Ignore hacking and claymores for now, they're not useful for snipers. More medkit capacity is always good.

If you're upgrading the Armistice you need the extended mag, not the laser. Of the two subguns the Armistice is superior for Infils - higher dps for quick assassinations. 40 rounds is more than enough to kill anyone before cloaking and escaping. The Hailstorm is probably a better overall gun if you're going to use it on other classes that can't escape bad situations as easily.

The Armistice it fires faster than the hailstorm and reloads faster the hailstorm is to slow but it has 20 more rounds per mag so if you cant aim the hailstorm is for you but in a fight against a blitz or a serius you may lose out due to rpm. Think of it this way if you will the hailstorm will compete well against the cyclone and the eridane and the armistice will compete well against the blitz and the serius but the first gen smg work best wile adsing and the second gen are better for hipfiring due to attachments.

What is better of Advanced Laser Dot for the boost to hipfire (which I would imagine I'd use a lot) or the +10 to the magazine? I can see some positive parts about the +10 bullets, but testing it in VR training, the thing shreds stuff as it is and if I come from behind while cloaked, I get to pump them full anyway.
  10. zizeff

The plus 10 if your a good shoot you can easily kill 2-3 players per mag and with its high rpm thoes 10 rounds come in handy but the armistice works best wile aiming down sights.

  11. YuanrangJA

Myeah, but I found my playstyle to be more hit and runs so I rarely get to aim through the NV scope. :|

How noticable is Advanced Laser Sights (not the actual laser beam, but the tightening of the spread) when hipfiring?
  12. zizeff

Its very good but if your the hipfiring type go with the hailstorm its almost 100 rpm slower but has 60 rounds per mag and you can equip the advance laser sight.
  13. Astraka

I've Auraxiumed the Armistice & am nearly there (933) with the Hailstorm.

At this point I would completely recommend the Hailstorm over the Armistice, and for a variety of reasons. The Hailstorm is less dependent on great aim than the Armistice - with its sixty rounds you can effectively spray & pray and get through firefights without a lot of trouble. You are also able to easily take down 2-3 targets in one magazine with the Hailstorm, whereas with the Armistice you may struggle to take out 2. This is mitigated somewhat with taking the Extended Magazine attachment on the Armistice, but you're losing out on the Adv. Laser to get it. The bullet velocity of the Hailstorm is slower which makes it especially difficult when trying to lead targets with a suppressor equipped, but this is able to be overcome with skill & practice.

This isn't to say that the Armistice is a bad weapon by any means and isn't worth picking up because both SMGs are really good. The Armistice' blistering rate of fire & higher bullet velocity enable it to tear through opponents, and it has the highest DPS (and subsequently lowest TKK) of any of the SMGs. Also even with the Extended Magazine equipped, your hipfire accuracy isn't that bad and is still workable.

Which one of the two you choose is primarily dependent on your style of play & skill at aiming. If you prefer to stay on the sidelines and pick off lone enemies or have very good aim the Armistice is good for you. If you prefer to attack multiple people at a time or play in such a way where that might occur the Hailstorm might be more your weapon.
  14. YuanrangJA

I have tried out the Armistice and I bloody love it. I am not a fantastic shot but I like being able to assassinate people with such a speed and then just vanish again.

I am going to try the Hailstorm though. If it can produce similar results, I probably will take it just for the larger default clip. :p
  15. CuteBeaver

It is my experience that Nanoweave can in fact allow you to survive 1 direct mine hit. Further it shines in CQC. At rank 2 you can eat an extra bullet, and rank 5 allows you to eat two extra bullets before death. As mentioned R5 is also useful in sniper vs sniper battles since you cannot be 1 hit killed by headshots.
  16. zizeff

Its just slower and has more ammo and access to more attachment its better suited to taking out more than one player and it was more desgined with hip fire in mind.
  17. YuanrangJA

It still feels too inefficient for my playstyle, which is more hit and cloak awayyyyyyyy. :p

    Armistice it is.
  18. zizeff

From my experience the armistice it the better gun to begun with.
  19. YuanrangJA

I would actually use the Hailstorm on other classes, but since the Infiltrator is great at sneak attacks from behind, the Armistice works since, as you said, it has a much shorter TTK and it shreds targets which is great since you want to spam F and run the hell away after you take down 1-2 targets.

    Both SMGs are great though.
  20. zizeff

Each smg suits a play style from run and gun to aimed take downs and the good thing is that both guns they be decked out to to ither or but over time you will find out what works out best for you. As you said you like the armistices speed witch is the same reason why i like it and yes this gun is more of a cloker weapon fast and deadly.
