[Suggestion] Towers layout should be different

I don't get the towers layout. If they are meant be be kind of strongholds, difficult to attack etc they fail miserably:

    The turrets are quickly dispatched.
The control points (beside one) are outside.
The space between the tower and the control points is open and exposed.

With a strong (numerically) attack the defenders are.quickly confined to the tower itself from where they can either shoot from the platforms and die repeatedly or shoot from the inside and be poorly effective (but safe) then time runs out, base is lost by taking B and C.

I understand the general "Swiss Cheese" base layout, but shouldn't at least towers be better suited for defense ?

Towers are made to get farmed by vehicles and fairys on the roof

Where did you get that they were supposed to be difficult to attack?

Yep - it may well be wrong logic on my side to expect a military setup to be easier to defend than an industrial complex :)
  5. Azarga

Judging by just the number of turrets present Tech Plant is the most military setup anyway.

Because no ones like a Turret Humper.

They used to be different and had different layouts over time.
They either resulted to be too tough to capture or too farmable from distance.

I think current layout is an interesting compromise. A is still very defensible and attackers are supposed to rush the point as LA from the balcony.

And the vehicle bay remains the core of the base: neutralizing that area so that defenders cannot spawn vehicles is the key to a successful capture.

They were static meatgrinders before they were changed - as aweful as biolabs. Putting some control points outside the tower spreads the fight across a wider area of the base and makes it more fluid. Base turrets are so powerful that balance says they have to be vulnerable.....like anything or anyone else who stands still in this game.

Base design in this game is generally quite poor.

Many bases seem to be designed to hem in the defenders and provide a kill box for attackers.

Bases with walls (e.g. watersons) should provide steps and platforms on the inside of them to allow defenders to gain high ground. As a defender - you shouldn't have to rely on the LA class to scale the walls of the base you are defending.

Look at the design of any medieval fortification and they are all designed like this. Walls and natural geology are always designed or chosen to keep attackers out and provide a platform for the defenders to defend from.

Can you imagine coming over the horizon in your vehicle to see the HAs with their lock on RLs standing shoulder to shoulder along the top of a wall?.

Or interspersed with sniper infils and Maxes :eek:.

LoL, like players are ever that organized! More likely one or two guys doing that, while everyone else is still dying at the last base they just lost, or pulling sunderers to die to the incoming tanks.

In practice air towers are some of the easiest to defend bases in the game. This open and exposed area around the tower works in favor of the defenders since attackers have to cross a large open no mans land to get anywhere.

It's probably an enjoyable experience for defenders to feel like they are holding a base for hours on end and really gives a feeling of a persistent battlefield but if the game has too much asymmetry and defender favored design it just leads to standoffs. Fights with not much action or spending huge amounts of time moving around the map looking for a decent engagement. Low intensity boring activity in an action game about high intensity action that directly rewards you for being involved in fast moving fights.

Already the main way that "salty vets" get ahead of new players in terms of performance is by knowing that many of the bases in the game are simply not worth going to because either it will be a zerg with no action or you will just die a lot for no reason.

Towers are nothing more than a big orgy party waiting to happen with the right type of sundy there.

Weird, I always found towers hard to defend and easy to attack (done both).

Towers are either in the open or surrounded by higher places. A coordinated attack starts almost always from the air forcing defenders to take cover and getting rid of the turrets. Then everything is easy and it is a game of patience for the attackers, with enough pressure they'll push defenders back inside the tower.

Once inside it is over. It is no longer possible to spawn armor (instakilled) turrets are down and defenders are inside the forcefield or sniped repeatedly over and over again.

It is a snipers paradise since the tower and can be shot from any angle and defenders can retaliate from the forcefield, but other than that there isn't a lot of fun.

If there are hills nearby for tanks to use then it's a farming place for the attackers. Otherwise it's a farming place for defenders.
