Took the plunge... Class Switch LA to HA

I have been trying to argue to every player since PS2 was in beta that HAs are not the best infantry class. I strongly believed that the best was LA. The ability to fly gave the LA such a great advantage over other classes. Thus, I logged in 164 hours of gameplay with the LA, and 85% of my time was dedicated to using the LA exclusively.

Went back to the HA today and realized I was a FOOL. HAs are truly the BEST class in the entire game by far. Im not going to use the word OP, but i'll just list the HA's advantages over EVERY class.

    1) Only class able to use rockets
    2) Only infantry class able to effectively kill multiple maxes without relying on infantry supplies
    3) Only class with a potential 1700 points of shields + health

And traits that it shares with some other classes...

    1) Also has a grenade that incapacitate enemies
    2) Can also equip CQC weapons (SMGs/Shotguns)

Ultimately, the shields+rockets effectively makes HA the best class in game by a FAR margin. Anyways long live the HA, the ONLY class you should play in PS2

You should be playing each class when required and not just one all the time.

Oh noes, a class that is supposed to kill people and nothing else is actually good at fighting!
It's not like healing/reviving/supplying people or repairing vehicles is at all useful, no sir.

Firstly, did you even read his post? He wasn't complaining, only stating his realization that HA is superior to LA, and he's switching over. Try some reading comprehension next time before embarrassing yourself by acting like a *****.

Secondly, healing/reviving/supplying/repairing vehicles comes nowhere near the utility of being able to annihilate infantry and vehicles as effectively as the HA. Reviving is the only thing other classes can't do themselves, and even that isn't a huge deal with the spawning system and lolpods in this game.

I spoke under the assumption that this is a veiled whine/nerf HA thread, since a lot of them seem to start out like OP's post. It's because he used the words "best" and "effectiveness" when it comes to killing people. He talks about how the class is good at fighting and nothing else. Nowhere did he mention mobility or support options, which are also essential elements to gameplay and therefore should also count towards whether a class is "the best class in the entire game by a FAR margin." It's like people who try to defend the Striker saying "but I don't get kills with it" and not saying/realizing that people actively try not to engage them.

So excuse me if I act like a jerk to someone who appears to be baiting people by not telling the full story.

I disagree. People run out of ammo. People run out of medkits. Forward spawns don't maintain themselves. Killing isn't the only facet of the game, it's just the one that people focus on the most, including the devs.

LA is extremely fun, but limited in my opinion. Put 51 hours into mine. For flanking and creating havoc in the enemy's backlines, I think the Infiltrator is a bit better with its ability to get there unseen, hack terminals, put out radar, etc.. I say this with the understanding that Infiltrators could use some work themselves. Once an LA's C4 is gone, that's about all he's got outside his carbine and flying around trying to flank. Fun, definitely. Useful? Arguable.

HA's while being fairly one dimensional (they fight) are critical for holding and breaking points and have the HP to handle that. They kick doors in, break lines, and move the squad forward.

LAs just can't have that effect on the field. Flanking and killing stuff on towers is useful until the enemy starts paying attention. Then you're dead. Forget about fighting on flat ground in the open. HAs can adapt. LAs can not.

This is not to whine about HAs either. This is pointing out that LAs need help with their role. HAs are perfect where they are.

All I can say is that LA is the class I despise the most in the game, C4 bombers are the most annoying thing in any shooter. Glad to see another HA in the ocean of them.

I have been playing heavy quite a bit lately after the speed nerf which hit LA on GU13. So its not as fun anymore to play it and you can be picked off from air even easier than before.

I always knew HA is better at fighting, but to be honest I didn't realize the gap really was that big. With nanoweave armor 5 + resist shield I can easily win about 90% of the fights against non HA players. Its pretty rediculous. Someones tryes to kill me with carbine over 50 meters away? Good luck with that. Often I win even 2v1 fights simply due to the health and the fact I have plenty of bullets in a mag.

When facing MAX the only way you can beat it as LA is to caught him off guard with C4, but if he knows you are coming there is not much you can do. As a HA I have killed lots of Maxes on 1v1 situation. Concussive grenade is still pretty rediculous even tho it got nerfed and that combined with a shot from decimator and few rounds from LMG drops maxes easily.

I still try to play LA when situation suits the best for it, but its just so squishy once you get used to HA and killing multiple targets without reloading is very difficult. So no wonder all you basically see is HA on the field. It really sucks they pushed the LA rewamp way back and gave a big nerf on GU13 instead...

Yeah I read this and was like wha?

"Switched classes" wtf is this wow? I switch classes every 5 minutes.

LA do stuff that no other class can do, fly.

But yes HA is the bread and butter class.

The big problem with PS2s design is that "classes" aren't really that, they are just loadouts, which means they can't make more situational classes too good, because there's basically NO specalisation in PS2, unlike PS1 where it was all about making choices to specialise.

So you think the Heavy Assault is the best class ever.

I'd like to introduce you to the concept of organized outfits. Imagine a group of people working together, communicating via VOIP, moving as a team and going after bases where they are outnumbered. If all these people were Heavy Assault players, what do you think would happen? They might be stronger as individual soldiers, but just wait till they run out of ammo, get flanked, die and can't spawn in because the spawn beacon was placed poorly and destroyed.

You need the other classes. Medics are obvious - keeping your teammates alive means more time for them to fight. Engineers are required for ammunition and point defense with their AI turrets, as well as repairing MAXes. Light Assaults are necessary to defend positions dynamically and to flank the enemy properly, including placing the spawn beacon cleverly. Even switching out one of your precious Heavy Assault for an Infiltrator is more viable because of their vital minimap pings and terminal hacking. MAXes are self-explanatory. But most of the time a team also needs a few Heavy Assault to really hammer down resistance, throw concussion grenades and to take full advantage of the supporting classes.

But sure, if I want to be a lone wolf then Heavy Assault is usually the best option.

The HA is most effective class in common, on a Battlefield.

They could need some support to be much more better.
Unlimited Ammo and Healing make them to bigger Monsters.

So we have Supporters, that could also stay in fight, but can also let others shine.
Information about the enemies movement by Infiltrators from there Recon darts, Roofcovering and Flanking by LA.
And now we have a squad with mixed classes, even if the most are HA.

Killing is the special of HA, they cant fly, or make themself invi. Healing by medikits is posible, but no rezz for themself or others. They can only destroy and cant nothing repair. Theire Type of Support is to bring Enemies down.

In my opinion the best selfsupporting class is the Engineer.
Unlimited Ammo, AV Turret & Mines/C4
The true Lonewolf class are Soloplayer on Multiplayer Games. Something i dont unterstand, like farming as Sniper the whole day.
Maybe these are often a combination :)
  15. Kuriby

@Everyone who arguing about support/revive/heals... Yes support classes are extremely useful, but they are SUPPORT, at the end of the day you will always need more heavies then any other class to effectively take a point. So I stand my ground, they are the BEST class in the game.

My point exactly, getting a 4 - 10 man kill streak with a LA wasn't hard, but it did require a lot more thought. When Heavies popped their shields my first instinct was (gotta hit that head now!). When I faced maxes, I always had to "lose them", then surprise drop a C4. Again, it was VERY doable and I hope my score/KDR can represent the success a solo-LA dedicated player can have.

However, when I switched to HA, I basically experienced everything you did. In most encounters I would drop players faster then they could drop my shield. When I saw maxes I just switched to my HAWK and out gunned them. When I saw an ESF I just shot one AA lock-on missile and they fly away. Getting 8+ kill streaks became a breeze.

I don't think the HA is OP... but the versatility they have over other classes is ridiculous. They truly need to revamp most classes to bring them up to par to this titan on the battlefield.

He was complaining. 'waaaaaahhh I cannot do something another class does waaahh '
  17. Bill Hicks

You basically were a terrible LA and now you want to be a mediocre heavy?

Are you going to be one of those scared heavies, I see all the time? The one who refuses to be the first in, last out? afraid of dying to accomplish your goals?

Ive seen some good LAs that make me want to punch babies, because they are always where I dont see them.

Heavies are samarai. LAs are ninjas.

What good is a heavy when a LA can fly over a wall and activate a generator on the opposite side of the battle thus forcing the enemy to split up?
what good is a heavy that has go up every flight of stairs to cap a tower?
what good is a heavy when he cannot get in a good spot and pick off people trying to retake a room?

People need to know their role.

You are going to go heavy and you will get owned because you are like other people who go heavy to " win" you will pop your shield everytime and still get destroyed by people who can aim. You will never figure out that heavies trade avoidance for mitigation with their shields. You find out the LMGs have the worst TTK of any main weapon. You find that your rockets and kills mean nothing if there are MEDICS and ENGINEERS reviving and repairing.

When I play medic I can kill heavies just fine. I often have help because I can REVIVE people.

    Trolling with Light Assault:

    1. Equip under-barrel grenade launcher
    2. Find Engineer
    3. Convince Engineer to drop an ammo pack near that wall
    4. Peek over the wall
    5. Shoot grenade at unsuspecting dude
    6. Drop back and reload
    7. Rinse
    8. Repeat

Heh? Killing airborne LAs was difficult before? I been shooting flying LAs since beta. Airborne isn't about when contact is made.. its about making contact from an unexpected direction. I love it when LAs jet up during a fight.. it just make them really easy to shoot (I don't have to shoot around my own crazy-strafing squad mates).
  20. Kodaa

    ^ Pretty much.

Hicks, you asked for that when you came in here with that attitude.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks the OP's post is some kind of stealth "nerf HA" rant.
