To Mithril. Have the devs figured out what's causing the performance issues?

    People have been going around how addition of Construction drastically decreased game's performance, the cheating but from my experience, in 2020 I could run the game flawlessly using my native 1920x1080 resolution and high graphics... Nowadays I can only maintain the performance of what I had back then with a downgraded resolution of 1152x864 and lowest graphics. What happened?

    I remember since addition of NSO, their presence decreased my FPS in battle by almost 30, back then.
    But it got worse and worse over time as I shown above...
    People with super computers say this game is CPU hungry, but from my end GPU also and the high graphics look worse.

    Why did NSO decrease performance, how, and what happened afterwards to cause such a deteriorating decline?

    One word, optimization. The NSO faction and new buildings (especially Command center) are not optimized and have a lot of polygons to render. Before the fortification update, the buildings where mostly square and had were much easier to render.

    Have they even looked into it? Do they even care?

    Performance took a hit when they released the game for ps4, I think that's also when the audio became horrible, when in the begining it was some of the best audio I've ever heard in a game. Performance seems to have taken a hit with most large updates, stuff like DX11 which was supposed to improve performance made it worse, construction, OS, Oshur, bastions, sanctuary, NSO, etc just added to performance reduction.

    How insane is it that literally everything in the game including performance and audio was better at launch, nearly 12y ago when we barely had access to a fraction of the computing power we have now. Wtf.

    Just revert the game please. Merge connery and boot up a pre-cai version of the game there and just leave it alone. I guarantee you it'll be the best decision the game's made in over a decade.

    The only other alternative would be to start from scratch and make a ps3, something I don't trust anyone who's ever owned this ip to do.

    Yeah exactly! I am no expert and noticed this as well, like put a Chimera next to a Prowler and look at that difference. I am pretty sure one wheel on Chimera has more mesh in it than entire Prowler hull.

    And if the models are the simple issue, why hasn't it been fixed yet? You can't tell me that for a professional it'd take more than a day to simply remake an NSO model. One week, 7 models remade... Even the cosmetics, Doku cosmetics, if they're unoptimized, simply adjust it. One month, 30 models.

    Some new assets or models should be removed, they're pointless, like the Sanctuary items, new Esamir assets, like the environment near shattered warpgate. Containment site is a flop, could be removed. Even some new weapons could be removed.

    You forgot water... The most pointless addition to the game. I am pretty sure that had a massive hit on performance much greater than Construction lol.

    I am in waiting queue at the Sanctuary and you know the arms dealer section? I am looking at the weapons there and the MAXes Burster cannon, beautiful model, simple, designer played around with it and tried using as minimal detail as possible but enough to see no blockiness from our perspective.

    I then look at a NSO rifle hanged up on the wall, zoom in with a 10x scope weapon, and it's like every single corner is beveled a bunch of times, even the grid lol. The cylinder of the NSO gun barrel has like 40 faces, meanwhile the Burster just uses 13 for their barrel, and the NSO one has multiple barrels. This designer just did not care at all lol. And as all sci fi rifles, unnecessary details all over to make it look kewl.

    But I don't get it. Like if I was a 3D designer, I am pretty sure I could remake 3-6 of those rifles in a day.

    That's the sad part, a lot of these things are low hanging fruit that wouldn't take more than a few hours for a single person to fix. Like normalizing weapons after the nanoweave removal (2y+ ago), which was only done for pumps for some reason.


    Skipping a few since performance pretty much suffers after every update, but a quick breakdown in no particular order:

    • Porting the game to PS4 - broke the audio engine, reduced performance and settings options
    • Construction - reduced performance (literally got worse after every revamp)
    • Sanctuary - reduced performance
    • Esamir rework - reduced performance, most of the new stuff like containment sites were not optimized
    • Oshur - reduced performance
    • All the doku weapons + the AOE ones like the wrelbow - reduced performance
    • Ambusher jets, impusle nades - reduced performance
    • Pretty much every outfit asset - reduced performance
    • NSOs - reduced performance
    • DX11 update - reduced performance
    • Adding water to every continent - reduced performance
    • Ambient lighting changes - reduced performance
    • Different alert types (MAXes, aerial anomalies) - reduced performance
    • CTF - reduced performance
    • New character/loading screens - reduced performance
    And I'm missing a lot. And most of these did a lot more than lower performance or audio, I'm just focusing on that for this thread.

    What's shocking isn't just that most of these things should've never been added, much less kept in the game for so long, but even the DX11 update supposedly done to improve performance was so poorly executed it did more harm than good.

    Almost none of the stuff the last team added was related to the game, little if any of the things were optimized, and it ended up doing much more harm to the game than good (most of which never did any good at all btw).

    This game is in desperate need of de-wrelification in order to return to it's roots. It's a bf3 game with ps1 themes on a larger scale. And the larger scale wasn't very successful past the innitial stages btw because of poor base design combined with the fact that the gunplay ripped straight from bfbc2 is designed for 32v32 max fights (that's why most fights in this game feel so organic until they reach around 48+ on both sides btw) means the game wasn't properly adapted for those larger scale fights. Not to mention the lack of any pop restrictions or force multipliers at a fight.

    And in over 12y of development we not only never tackled the core issues that plagued the game, we actually went backwards and added more! Some of the things the game actually did pretty well like gunplay, audio and performance (after smed forced the team to make the game faster instead of releasing new gimmicks) and where this game actually stood out from others are in a worse state than before. Seriously maybe the UI's a bit better and directives but that's about it.

    We need to revert the entire game back to literally just after hossin released, or at the very least sometime before the cai. This would fix not just performance but the miriad of other issues that were stacked up on top of existing ones after years of meaningless development.

    At the very least I would suggest avoiding content releases which never go well anyway, and are unlikely to solve anything. Instead prioritize quality of life changes like increasing performance, tweaking weapons above 200dmg to account for the nanoweave removal. Maybe even tackle the 3 most powercrept classes in this order: infil, las, medics. Oh and make MAXes cost 450 again.

    I'll stop here cuz we're talking into the void anyways and if they even read the slightest thing they don't like they ban the person, because we have a surplus of invested players apparently. But yeah just frustrating to see the overall lack of direction in this game which had so much potential. It's become practically unplayable over the years and it's good to see we're still focused on irrelevant things like fishing instead of the essentials that make the game fundamentally fun to play.

    but seriously the game had performance issues before. CPU yes it eats well. I think the whole problem is in the network code (I think the client is waiting for a response from the server and can't redraw until the response comes, I have no other options. Well, the hands of the database programmers are extremely crooked, any network game is essentially a database), before, for example, there was a stupid binding of the rate of fire to FPS)) now I don't know how. but the game's performance is going to the bottom, as is the gameplay with the latest changes. It feels like the game is running on 1C (Russian IT specialists will understand me)

    the most important question is, for what purpose are the developers/owners doing all this. why kill the game? it looks like the whole game is being made for the big boss's son.

    This game has always required more horsepower than the average 'gaming computer'.. They did OMFG a while back so that more people with less powerful computers could play but it killed the look and feel of the old game and it's never been the same since. ..but it's still amazing! Not every game can or should be made where 'everyone' can play it.. Then it's not really special, is it? This game pushes the boundaries of what's possible, no other game is anywhere close to this. So there's a barrier to entry... welcome to the world. I get constant 100+ fps at all times running 1140p High/Ultra. Yes, I'm older and have money to buy a killer setup. i9 13900k and 3080Ti. Don't get mad, don't complain, don't demand devs dumb down the game we love so you can play on your old setup, save up for that bad-a$$ rig you want. In the meantime, come join the fun at the lower settings the devs have given you so at least you CAN play the game.

    The game looks worse now, than it did in 2020 for example, with 3x less FPS than before...

    That is not my experience or observation at all. It looks worse than it did in 2016, that's for sure. OMFG killed the 'beauty' but made it so folks without jobs to pay for i9 processors and xx80Ti versions of graphics cards could play.

    This game may not look like RDR2 with a 3080Ti with all the RTX stuff turned on.. but nothing else is like it anywhere. ..and don't say Battle Bits.. now there's some terrible graphics...

    I realize I may not be feeling your pain due to my ability to have a wicked fast computer. Hey, I work hard for this stuff, lol.

    We have the same animations, same maps, Indar, Esamir, Amerish, Hossin, unchanged gameplay. Natural environment is unchanged, same stones, same everything, building interiors actually look worse... I've only noticed more blinding lighting effects. Did that decrease my FPS by 3x? The game is collapsing, that's the reality. Unless something is done about it, it gets cleaned up.

    If you play infantry on max settings you are not competitive, regardless of your setup. My PC is old, but I play on high graphics quality, because the look is more important to me.
