Time for alerts to go

Alerts had their time, they had their place, I think its time for them to go. Sure a few good things come from alerts; xp bonus, we get to fight on a continent that isn't indar sometimes.

Alerts suck though, see the issue is every time an alert ends, everyone logs.

Time for alerts to go. People don't need more reasons to log off.

    Logs on or off?

    Edit: nevermind.

But I have to completely disagree. No one logs off just because of an alert.

This has to be the weirdest reason I've read so far for removing alerts...

If they feel like or have time to continue playing they'd just do so.

I love alerts, winning or losing. Today I played 2 alerts and both were super fun. Lost badly on the first, vanu had a big overpop zerg. Was still fun, had pop xp bonus and still made lots of kills. Second was a 3 way tie, pops were more balanced. Was fun, made lots of kills and XP. Alerts concentrate and diversify the fighting, there's absolutely nothing wrong with them. People are going to log off after awhile anyway with or without alerts, the players aren't computer controlled bots. They're humans that need food and water.

with alerts, some people logs on during, and most people logs off after.

without alerts, most people stay off...

i'll vote for alerts to stay.

Its the global major facilities alerts that needs to go.
The intention for alerts is to consolidate the fight, and have incentive to fight elsewhere than Indar.

With these global alerts: it often ends with everyone still hanging on Indar, and the faction who is willing to ghostcap the other continents: wins the alert.

alerts is one of the things that brightens up my PS2 experience
it gives our operations more meaning. and it is even more important than the XP

what if i told you that some people log off after the alerts because alerts are the most interesting thing that can happen during a game session?

if anything, the log off'ing proves that we need more events like that, on top of the alerts

Alerts have been a double edged sword so far. The aspect of a goal is a driving force for some people and winning one seems like an accomplishment. Thing is, they are meant to create good fights. Sometimes that happens. Others, they ruin already ongoing good fights. A couple typical examples:
    • You're in an ongoing vehicle fight (somewhat rare). Biolab alert happens and everyone rushes to camp the domes.
    • A heated battle is ongoing for the past two hours. Suddenly alert happens on another continent, resulting in the defenders disappearing and the base getting ghost capped.
I think that at this point I have developed an immunity to alerts. I merely don't care about them. All I care is finding a good fight (and alerts most of the time don't provide that on my server). And by good fights I mean at worse a 60/40 difference. Anything beyond that and the fight has probably deteriorated in spawn camping.

Alert = more XP which is = more certs

I'm guessing cert shortage isn't a problem P2W players have.

This is a unfair to all the people who are funding PS2 and basically make it happen (especially because it is a lie, there is no way to make yourself stronger with money).

From a premium's member standpoint (more so if boosted), the alert reward is laughable (equates to a bit more than ten infantry kills). The 20% exp for the alerted continent is a lot more important. Even more important though is a good fight. Sometimes those are possible in alerted continent, sometimes it's not (zerg faction of each server making it impossible for everyone else to play).
  11. DCWarHound

Okay so it doesn't make you stronger but it does give you better gear then a F2P that has the same amount of kills, base captures, playtime etc.

I don't want to start a debate but soe should have never made it possible to purchase weapons with real cash, the fact is that most weapons are not side grades.

You realize without alerts, people will have less of a reason to even login right? You think you would solve problems by removing alerts, you would simply lose a lot more players who only find enjoyment when an alert is happening.

The population in this game isn't what it was 10 months ago, heck it's not what it was 5 months ago. Alerts are sometimes the only reason people would even login to play Planetside 2 for a couple of hours a night. Without alerts, you would see quite a large population dip.

There is a reason why people log after alerts, I do too. The reason being the action are just too loose, too spread out. Alerts gave people a reason to fight over something and a goal to shoot for. It pulls people together (except for when there's an alert that spreads people across 3 continents). When alerts are over, it's back to pointless base hopping for honestly no reason at all. The same 'ol same 'ol we've played since November of last year.

Without the population, without continent locks and other endgame goals, without a reason to push back & forth, this game is rather dull especially when you've unlocked most of what you wanted to unlock already. Alerts at least give people the usual FPS "rounds" feeling, where it starts with a goal and ends with a winner. It sometimes is just that simple, the simple things are missed in this game. It's FPS gaming 101. Unfortunately SOE doesn't get it.

Well it is pay to advance faster or pay to spend less time to get stuff (I can play max. 1-2 hours a day, barely the time to make the ribbons). I never got any weapon with my 500 monthly SC. I am just putting it into cosmetics to stomp enemies with he standard-issue Orion VS54 while looking awesome. :D

Alerts have to stay btw, they are fun.
  14. Xasapis

You'd be right that most vehicle weapons are not sidegrades. However, this is not true for infantry weapons. Most of them are very strong, very versatile and you'll only feel weaker if you're caught in a specialised situation against specialised weapons.

P2W would suggest that I could purchase with SC an Orion that has better stats than the Orion you can get with certs. This is simply not possible. The only difference is that you get stuff at a slower pace, but you play the game for entirely free. I'd love to hear how SOE could monetise the game, considering that being premium basically negates the need to buy weapons with SC.

I guess i'm just used to games where you pay once or pay a monthly fee.

Played Neverwinter and the game was flooded with people that have fancy gear and market prices were inflated so it's almost impossible for a free player to get decent gear with in game currency.Started playing the new FinalFantasy:A realm reborn and it was so nice to finally have reasonable prices and not have everybody in the whole town walk around with a weapon that is supposed to be super rare.

I come from BF3 to the slow TTK and the fact that i have to play 2-3 weeks to unlock a 1k cert weapon while in BF3 i would have already unlocked half the weapons of a certain class. Then again you start with the best weapons in BF3 right off the bat.
  16. NinjaTurtle

    No I disagree.

Alerts give you a more focused objective. This is needed until a proper meta is added.

I love alerts because I enjoy fighting on Amerish and alerts actually make people go there
  17. Xasapis

Neverwinter was a scam (and I fell for it, unfortunately).

I haven't bought a single gun in PS2 (well, technically I did buy when I didn't know better, the Eidolon and the Nemesis). I play premium, which is the mmo subscription model for PS2. You get about 50 certs for logging everyday, another 25 or so for completing ribbons (usually takes less than 15 mins). My cert gain is rather low, since I foot zerg it most of the time and I still make 200-400 certs per day, double that on weekends. You can play this game like you play FF, in fact, it will probably contribute to the longevity to have some goals to go after.

As for BF3, they sold the same game three times. One was the original, one was the premium and one was the weapon kits.

PS: Just in case you think I'm BS you, here's my cert game from dasanfall site (API stats analising site):

  18. DCWarHound

I only bought the original BF3 and premium because i wanted to play with friends, both were well worth it.

At least you make over 100certs a day,i rarely get over 60certs a day.At least made 500 certs last weekend because i got a 50% xp boost for free,
  19. DCWarHound

How do you use dasanfall site to view your cert gain?,do you have to have an account?

I log off from non-Indar alert all the time, because they spread out the already thin population across two or three continents, turning the game from Indarside to Ghostcapside, which is even worse.

EDIT: Oh wait, he's talking about logging off after an alert? I'm not really aware that it happens to anyone other than people who have other business to tend to, but chose to stay till the alert's end (which means that they're actually playing longer than they planned because of the alert).
