Thoughts on this suggestion - CTF Base in PS2

    Idea:

Build or use a base in PS2 for a "Capture the Flag" or LLU Capture from PS1, Trial.

    CTF\LLU Run detail:
To capture one base on a map, it needs to have a "Flag" run back to another base and placed at a capture point

The "Flag" will spawn in the base after attackers capture all base points and hold all points for 5mins

The "Flag" will then spawn in the base at a fairly defend-able position for the defending team (Center of a room or along side a wall in a large room)

The "Flag" is picked up by an attacking player at its spawn point simply by running through it

When a player picks up the "Flag" every player can see where that "Flag" and player is on both the main and mini map by a flashing beacon or way point

When an attacking player picks up the "Flag" a system wide message to all players on that map appears telling every player the name of the attacker that has the flag (Once you get it everyone knows who has it and where! BIG... BIG target! :) )

One player of the attacking side can drop the "Flag" for another player
The player carrying the "Flag" may enter a ground vehicle to be transported - but NOT transported by air

The "Flag" must be transported to a connected base of the attacking side by the lattice. If the attacking side has more than one connection to the attacking base, where the "Flag" must be run to will be a random choice

If the flag is not captured with-in 10-15mins - the base capture is lost with base timers and the "Flag" being reset

If the attacking player carrying the "Flag" is killed the "Flag" is dropped at that players death location (On foot or not) and can be picked up by another attacking player - but NOT a defending player

    Requirements:
A base with a multi lattice connections
A Capture point in connected bases for the "Flag" to be placed at (Placed by simply walking up to a object and hitting your interact button)
A "Flag" (In PS1 it was a flashing round object)
The "Flags" spawn point \ location

In PS1 the CTF \ LLU Bases were a lot of fun. Even when the attacking side got the Flag - they had to have both Armour and Air cover to transport the Flag to the next base. Else a fleet of Libs from the defending team would come along and smash what ever was carrying the flag and try to recapture the base.
Having done some of these runs myself - it is a huge rush to know as soon as you pick up that flag - that YOU are the biggest target on the map. Everyone knows who you are and where you are. The only choice is to run! So you would run to a AMS (Or Sundy in PS1) or a tank or buggy and start driving like hell to the base you had to get the flag too. Mean while command chats going off trying to get sky guards and air to follow you for cover. Troops follow you right to the base and to the capture point to make sure you don't get killed just as you get to the point (One of my fav things as a cloaker in PS1 - wait at the cap point with C4 or a gun and kill the flag runner just before he caps it!!)

Do you think it could work in PS2?
    Epic or Fail?

It would be nice if they worked in different ways to capture bases, such as CTF and TF2's cart mechanic. I could see it happening in the future. I think as it is new players get confused as to what needs to be done to cap certain bases.
  3. RaZz0R

Well it kinda is CTF.. Flag spawns - someone on your team picks it up - takes it to capture point.

As to new players... I personally think the game is fairly shallow and easy enough to learn. I reckon this would add some depth to it and lets face it - new players on VOIP = learn quick. Players are not all dumb... .. most...

An item that a player needs to pick up flag and transport would be awesome. Tricky to implement, I'll bet though. I'm certain there's a way to do it.

Yeah, if you thought Air was a problem before..... imagine having to take the LLU anywhere outside of a base.

Hell yes! The attacking team would need to have a few Skyguards!! Thats the point- everyone has to help get the flag to the cap point. If they dont they won't cap it.

How many SG's would you need for total air denial??

    Why not both?

I like this idea, though it seems WAY too susceptible to trolling. Like has been said, something like Payload or Payload Race might be in order.

I've always wanted to see something like a resource run, something that put a lot of emphasis on vehicular combat.

You have 2 bases or so with a common resource spot, accessible, assaultable, and defendable for both sides. Players using compatible vehicles run into the resource spot and they have to gather the resource (I'm thinking crystals.) This is where infantry come in; while there would be loading bays that are quick and automatic, there's only a few of them. Infantry can carry the resource, but in no great quantity, so the infantrymen load the resources into the vehicle until it's full. The vehicle then has to be escorted back to the base, where it will unload and go back. The first team to meet the goal gets their base locked up and cannot be capped for a limited time, while the other team's base becomes vulnerable.

Carrier vehicles would include Sunderers, Harrassers, and Flashes. Infantry can carry the resource, but it slows them down and they don't carry much of it; it's better for a Sunderer to be loaded up with the resource than for 12 people to haul it on their backs.

Trying to leave the area with resources in tow ends in the carrier being killed; the resource is volatile and can't be moved very far from the source without being processed, hence why two (or even three!) factions built different bases so close to it.

Well it did work in ps1 with 300+ players with a lot more options to play with compared to PS2.

The idea above sound like module runs from ps1. You could pick up a crystal in the ps1 caves' charge it in the caves central power core and then you had a 20min timer to take it to a friendly base. Moduel bennys included pain sheilds around base gens, health bonus's, armour bonus for tanks etc, quicker respawn timers, raydar for the base it is placed it showing all enemys around it.

heh - thank you very much - I hadn't seen that!!

Sounds awesome and I really hope it happens - something i will be looking for.

It may not work quite like that. If you recall the distance between bases in PS1 was a lot greater that the distance between bases in PS2. It would be far too easy, possibly.

But if adjustments for that could be made then it's a good idea and could mix things up a little.

I can recall some of the LLU runs in PS1 were very long and there had to be an escort of skyguards+aircav and even so they would often get ambushed.

well bases compared to outposts so you have to take them fairly far.

Escorts were always needed and all the way to the end. Because yes they would get ambushed - but thats part of the fun - knowing you are a target flashing on the map that everyone can see.

I used to cloak at the CC where you would have to cap the LLU just to boomer\C4 the LLU carrier or kill them just before they capped it - was a good laugh :)
  15. Phyr

CTF wouldn't work in this game, because people suck. Any kind of player movable capture mechanic is prime for trolling/dumb play. I'm all for different capture mechanics, but nothing that is player controlled.
  16. Dead soldier

It's fine, we can just tk them.
  17. Phyr

And the trolls can TK you back, or TK you so they can cap it for the points instead. People on the internet suck, and that type of capture mechanic is prime for abuse.
  18. RaZz0R

Big outfits would be more in tune to get the LLU \ Flag and cover it all the way - but also help the odd random whom is able to pick up the flag.

Those who TK a flag carrier would have their buts kicked very quick by all around them supporting the flag carrier.
Trolls also would find the same issue.

Try to think more positive rather then negative :p I know real world there would be some silly people - but supporting players would out pop them I think
  19. Alarox

    I wouldn't be so sure.
