Thoughts on the Valkyrie

Feels and handles like a small craft should, but I feel it should have a boost ability, just a small little burst, seems odd that it doesn't, and not having a nose gun for the pilot just feels wrong, it should have something for the pilot to deal with air. Other than that, I like it.

Pilot should have a small capacity all purpose anti-infantry + anti-aircraft nosegun. And the gunner should receive the high capacity anti-ground (general purpose too) gun.

Obviously it feels wrong the pilot has no nosegun. I'll keep my ESF, I am very happy with it. And it will be fun to shoot down Valkyries all over the place :p

    Wait, it's actually available now?

Guess I'll have to patch PTS ASAP, I want to see the ram potential :D

Phoenix can't shoot out of the rumble seat 50% of the time. Missile disappears.

Engineers can repair from rumble seat which makes them pointless for weapon platforms just as it is for harasser.

Placing an ammo box in rumble seat will not make it stay. :(

Forward speed is so low that the vehicle can't stay up. I has to use it's vertical thrust and tilt forward. Derp.

    Is it OP? Or balanced?

I bet people are going to complain on the banshee style cannon. Can't test properly now because of no splash damage in VR.

    To early to say.

Seems like it's missing the flight mode entirely at the moment. Flies slower than a galaxy and generally feels like a helicopter. If this is how they envision it it better have some pretty destructive weaponry because you could probably pummel it down from the sky with an UBGL, that's how slow it is.
  9. NoctD

Feels like I'm piloting some kinda space submarine - its really goofy flying one, really lacking forward thrust, they're like floating slow moving amoebas or something.

And yes - they look like the weirdest things ever... I don't know, it looks like some sort of toy space shuttle!

I think someone needs to do some testing to determine how much more punishment one of these can take vs. an ESF, say vs. bursters, g2as, etc. Park one and blow it up with different weapon, rinse, repeat.

I managed to test how much small arms fire it can take before I was disconnected. 102 CARV bullets. One mag was enough to almost kill it...

That was without the composite, though but still seems absurdly low considering how many would be shooting at it in a real situation.

Almost impossable to use missle launcher in valkyrie, not enough good pilots for this. You can do it but only if you fly level and stright, no one does this. Tanks will be easy targets by people dropping and using C4 on them.

Easy to bring down with skyguard... like sitting duck...

Lot of bugs in valkyrie yet...

    Also, no afterburnah!

Im assuming the current speed and health is just placeholders...

If it goes live as is it will be very underwhelming in terms of survivability but I have to say its agile like nothing else, you can turn it on half a dime so if it gets some buffs to what people already have mentioned is crap with it but it remains as agile then we truly have a flying turret.

I imagine you could pretty easily dogfight anything with one, there is no way a ESF will be able to get behind you and stay there unless the Valk pilot is just that bad... and the starting weapon on the Valk is kinda good against air targets too.

Im sort of cautiously optimistic about it.

    *Edit*
The health on the Valk is just slightly higer than a ESF.
2 fully charged shots is just enough to put a ESF on fire while the Valk isnt set on fire but its not far away and given how "bulky" and slow the Valk is its just impossible for it to go live like this, it would evaporate before it even got out of WG.

ok so the vertical thrust to move around is an epic fail with 2 rumble seats either add 2 more open seats or alow it to fly normally and it really needs boost

I doubt it will have more health than the galaxy. Anything lower than that will mean nothing against ESFs as I will just burn trough with point blank rotary or 85 needler bullets + rocket pods or even hornets if it doesn't have mobility or fire power to make me stay away.

A Liberator with a walker / bulldog will prevent me from staying in extreme close range, or even, I will usually avoid it because I know as soon as the belly gunner has a view my health will quickly go down.

Galaxies have gunners that will do just the same.

Valkyries? Pufft, can't wait for free certs.

The Valkyrie is obviously being designed to handle more like a helicopter than a fighter. Hence the lack of afterburners, weight, and necessity to incorporate vertical thrust to achieve max speed. I love this. Since I've been playing PS2 I've never really got into the air game because none of the vehicles had the feel I wanted. Most of my flying prior had been in earlier Battlefield games, specifically flying blackhawks. I tried to work a galaxy, but it just wasn't this same. This is more want I've been wanting.

So I honestly think this is a good direction for this particular vehicle but I do feel some tuning is necessary to get the feel right.

In particular I think the pilot's viewing angle could use a shift by a few degrees since flying the valk usually requires being pitched down at a pretty good angle, which means spending a lot of time looking at the ground and not really being able to keep an eye on the horizon. Free look helps but prevents any real maneuvering while it's being held, but if an option can be added to keep it from snapping back to the default angle, it would possibly be the preferable fix for this.

My only other concern is it's damage resistance, mostly that it's really low. It doesn't need much, but I was shocked with how fast it dropped to standard infantry weapon's fire compared to being drilled with a ESF rotary.

A valk can be destroyed with just 3 mags from a single infantry carbine. Valkyrie AA would pretty much consist of any LMG carrying heavy assault, or anyone with a weapon really. I feel like this needs to be adjusted some, or at least add a small arms resistance onto the composite armor cert, which currently only seems to offer resistances to vehicle mounted weaponry and flak.

But all around so far, loving the Valk. If it keeps this direction it's going to be the thing to gets me into the air game. I'm going to start saving my certs.

My initial thoughts are that it is sort of fun to fly with the vertical thrusters.

Not sure how easily other things will be able lead it and take it out. It seems that you can make movements fairly unpredictable but maybe not in a sort of rapid or stuttery way.

Throwing grenades from the passenger seat might be fun but I couldn't test that due to keybind problems.

The "transport" config is also ejection seats? Not sure how well that will work at the moment since on live you always seem to die if you use that when the vehicle is taking fire. It's unreliable.
  18. SCreech

Needs a tweak to the angle you need to put the plane to maintain forward movement (without gaining altitude at the same time), can't really see much forward otherwise, unless you go into cockpit view and use free look. Other than that, could really use the extra seats, if it wants to be a "transport".
