Those who are still playing, please never quit

I've been playing PS2 for two years now and do you know how many post Ive seen of people saying the game is dying? More then I can count lol the funny thing is I can still log on Emerald and get into plenty of good BIG fights. I relized something a month ago, while pop has gone up and down over the years, PS2 is free to play. There will always be new players coming no matter how many people leave or vets giving up on the game. I remember when people said BF4 was going to end PS2, now look at it lol. People who say the game is dying are just frustrated at the devs and where the game is going but you know what. They will still come back to the same game because it's the only game of its kind, its fun and they have invested hundreds of hours into this game.

If they ever shut the servers down.. then I want to buy the Stand-Alone-AI game....

Just give me some bots walking around.. I'll shoot at those... as long as I can roam around on Esamir, with my tank, and occasionally some AI generated enemy tank comes rolling up.. I'll be fine..

I'd pay good money for that ! just to keep this game.

Me and a buddy used tomcats on a dude, and he basically told us that he rage quitted planetside and wasn't going to play again...
  4. Jake the Dog

It would be interesting to see what would happen if they released the source code to the game...
  5. FBVanu

It would THRIVE... OMG.. so many mods that players would create..

Buy the basic game, say $60.00.. get basic AI bots (some of those bots will be just as good/bad as some players..)
and then add mods.. so players can create their OP weapons.. skins etc.. new vehicles etc..
    I would buy it today!

It would be a revival like no other before it.

Daybreak could make a ton of money with it

I have a subscription and buy cosmetics. I may complain a lot, but I want the game to succeed, and I put my money where my mouth is. I suggest anyone who wants the game to continue should do the same!

HEY MAN THATS CRAZY TALK! DAYBREAK HAS ONLY OUR BEST INTERESTS IN MIND!!!

Not too fond of bots though...
  8. FBVanu

Bots can be fine, as long as you can create a peer to peer network, up to 4 players etc...
In many games bots are better than actual players.....

Again, just in case this game ever dies.. I'd buy the basic AI bot game.. then see what kind of mods others come up with.
Daybreak could be in the money, by utilizing the test server for player generated mods, .. so mods could be sold, and Daybreak can earn some money off of them as well.

SOMEBODY please create the "silly mode".. or TOP (totally over powered)..
where all your pistol rounds have the effect of a frag grenade
where all your sniper rounds have the effect of an AP tank shell
where all your tank shells fly 3-times as fast, NO drop, and have the effect of a Dalton round!

Then let me select from a drop down menu, and I can create a wave of enemy MAX units coming towards me..
or a bunch of enemy lightnings ..

Pretty sure plenty of players would create some insane videos of that mayhem.. which would get others to buy the game and the mods..

Infinite possibilities with mods.... and they game could live for another 10 years..

yeah, I know, wishful thinking.... but possible.

I'm the biggest fan of Planetside 2, I've been playing without interruption for 3 years and before that I was on PS1.
    And I'm ******* pissed.

Developers do not communicate with us. We are here starving for news and providing ideas every single day but there is often no clear indication of what they do and why they're doing it. Many features that have been requested for YEARS have been ignored and keep being ignored every single day. Why still no medikits / resto kits revamp? Why no changes with the resources system even if players have been asking for this for 2 years? Why the Valkyrie still has no safe drop by default (this got like 250 ups on reddit in less than 24 hours)?
On the other hand devs implemented a lot of stuff on PTS for testing but then they decided not to push stuff live and they did not even take 5 minutes to explain the testers why (domeshields, interlink facilities, lmgs, conquest mode, drones... where the hell are the Battle Islands?). On the other hand we're going to have another OP rocket launchers no one asked for, and it smells like reskinned Striker 1.0. I'll get mine with my certs and I'll farm aircraft for hours.
The only proposal they made in the old roadmap (prestige items, black ops) have been downvoted so much they've been scrapped before they could even start.
But still they expect us to test their **** and give feedback? No surprise yesterday 12.30 CET I was the only player on the Test Server.

Even the 2015 update came after tons of cries and requests from the community about their plan for the future.

Is it ******* normal that after 3 years of playing and paying and suggesting and loving this game we have to beg on external sites (Reddit > Official Forum) in order to have 8-10 rows message with a rough program for the next 3 months?! What the hell are they doing?!

We've been patient when the game ran at 20 fps, when the client crashed every 10 minutes, when hackers screwed fights all day, when VS with ZOE steamrolled us all day because it was freaking OP, when a bug made enemy invulnerable, when development has been almost stopped because Playstation was more important, we kept the trust when most of the team have been fired, when Mr. Smedely gave us some hints about PS2.0 before disappearing forever.

Now it's too much, I'm sick and tired. The game is losing players yes, and it will probably die. But the devs team wanted it.

Does this mean I'll quit playing? No sir, I'll be here tomorrow and they day after tomorrow. But you can bet they won't see 1 single $ from my wallet anymore. I'd rater take my money and throw it in the fireplace than buying more stuff from the PS2 shop.

I played for over a year with a sub and buying cosmetics.
    I play BF4 right now.

One thing that doesn't change is this.
    The players.

You got a small percentage of tryhards.
Some form static squads where the objective (meta) is the goal.
Some are farmers where their kdr is their goal.

You have a percentage of casuals who vary from experienced to never good/slow to learn.
Some of these cannot grasp the games nuances and roll vehicles with c4 and kamikaze, prolly the same ones that play PS2.
I would argue that a lot of casuals are decent and know the objectives and are capable, but there are things that wear on them.

    1. Players exploiting OPness.
    2. Losing because of players lack of either skill/ambition + Players exploiting OPness.
    3. Bad game mechanics such as bad spawn logic + Losing because of players lack of either skill/ambition + Players exploiting OPness.

A player ends up not caring about anything but getting some kills then logging out.
You cant count on the player next to you and you cant do it all yourself.
It seems that the meta cannot be a concern for the majority because of the chaotic randomness of the influx of various types of players.

Player mods would just divide the PS2 community.

People play games for some enjoyment and will follow the path of least resistance until it Is no fun anymore.

PS2 has what none other has, a persistent battlefield.

Same thread from 2013, 2014, recycled into 2015.

Someday, hopefully long from now, I'll go to the doctors office. The doc will say "sorry, but your end is nigh." Hope I'll take as long to die as PS2 is taking.

I was one of the most loyal PS fans you could be: I subscribed to PS1 for seven years, playing almost daily. I subscribed to PS2 since launch, spent several hundred dollars on the game, and played it regularly, but as of right now, I haven't played in a month and have no plan on coming back soon.

This game just doesn't hold up the way PS1 did. It's orders of magnitude shallower than PS1. I just can't summon the desire to play these days. I wish I could be the loyal supporter I have been for 10 years (10!), but it's just not in me anymore. I had such high hopes for PS2, and it let me down on almost every level. Don't get me wrong: it was definitely fun for a while, but it was nowhere near the epic, groundbreaking experience of PS1.

I had lost interest before the PS4 launch, and then some friends wanted to play so I switched to PS4. It renewed my excitement briefly, but the PS4 launch was a total disaster and now my main character on PS4 sits on an already dead server with 9% of my faction's global population at PRIME TIME, AFTER a server merge. That really soured my excitement for the game. Oh, also, all my friends quit playing after about 3 weeks. That is how well the PS4 version is doing.

Perhaps I will be coaxed back with the next major update, but I doubt it. Kind of makes me sad that my decade long enthusiasm for this game has faded.
  14. Megalegs

    PS2 rocks.
    No other experience like it.
1200 players, tanks, aircraft, all working pretty well.
Don't think there's an alternative anyway.
It's got better steadily since beta, I'm sticking.
  15. UltimaRecon

This game had so much promise, played it since the beta. Heard all the awesome features that PS1 had and couldn't wait to see PS2 start to grow towards them, but sadly it went the other way. Just keeps getting dumbed down further, ruined the resource system with phase 1 revamp, never gave us phase 2 so it made capturing bases utterly pointless. Main thing I want done is that resource revamp, give meaning to controlling ground again at least. Seems like they keep trying to implement more things to help new players understand the game and make features easier, but the game is already so dumbed down and basic, I can't see how anyone would not understand it, there's no depth to it. Shoot people of a different colour, go to bases of a different colour, stand on the point until its yours. Just need more features to add strategic depth, its too basic and only thing it has over other shooters right now is the number of people. Just sad.

But the number of people thing is crucial.
I don't want to play bots.

Too late and you can thank, in part, your fellow VS cheese-masters. I came back and played a week or so after not playing since Nov 2014 and it's the same old blah of zergs, cheese, cheaters, lag wizards, and people who generally go out of their way to make the game as "unfun" as possible for everyone else.

I made and deleted a few alts on Connery and Emerald on each faction. You folks are pathetically kidding yourselves if you really believe that the VS weapons aren't easier to use, because they most certainly are easier lol... I played VS in PS1, but decided in PS2 beta that the TR art and weapons were more my style than the VS. NC is alright I suppose. VS though... wow, that faction seems to draw loud mouth, obnoxious children, scriptkiddies, and people who generally folks I would never choose to associate with. Sure, every faction has its bad seeds, but the VS take it to a whole new level.

I've been around, on an off, since PS1. I took part a hell of a lot in the alpha/beta community. Bottom line? The magic is gone. The community is garbage, the game play is boring as hell most of the time, and there isn't any hope it will ever get better. It won't.

So, sorry, but I just have no reason to play or support this game (or company) any more. Best of luck to those of you who stay.

    Sincerely,

A former SOE customer since 2002.
  18. DeadlyPeanutt

I log into three different servers, two in US and one in EU during prime time and always find a good fight rocking somewhere. a lot of times alert servers have a line to get in.... so the population isn't that bad. sorry to put a pin in your gloom and doom :)
  19. SamReye

I haven't been able get into playing much for in a little while, now I'm afraid I won't get back in time to play this game again

I believe we'll see Ps2 for a while longer, considering they're just now starting to make a profit off of it, right?

    Right?
  20. Konstantinn

Player generated content = more helmets..... yeah ... that's going to save the game for sure!
