This game is dying...

So let me get this straight.

You know what you're doing results in unfun gameplay, you do it exclusively because it's unfun. You're aware another continent doesn't have the issue, but because you enjoy being pissed off, you ignore that option. And the intent of your masochism is that somehow your self-inflicted suffering will be noticed by a multinational corporation and change their behavior?

Planetside 1 had HUGE continents with far FEWER players, but still had epic large battles.
But then, we can't learn lessons from PS1 like the latice system, or squad exp, or infantry/vehicle balance, can we?

Logged in for the first time in a few weeks today, most entertaining part was watching the new buffoonery methods people have figured out in the warpgates. Pretty sure I saw a flying mana turret blowing up every air vehicle in sight, it was great. Then I actually played the game. That was terrible.

It's 7pm Friday night, and Connery is at low population right now. That's sad.

Plays on Amerish because no one plays on it. Then complains no one plays on it.

Implying that the problem is with the player and not the **** game nudging everyone to Indar.

Is that what happened to SWTOR? Anet waited for the party to 'be over' only to realize there was almost nobody left?

If I hadn't had such an awesome time for the first couple weeks of the game... I wouldn't be miffed at the direction my game play has gone (hell, if the first two weeks had been like the last two... I would have left already!) It's frustrating to see so much potential...squandered. So much time spent on the game hoping for improvement... that's just not happening fast enough.

I'll never go back to Swtor... no matter what changes they've made. When I leave PS2... it'll be the same.

Population playing as recorded by Steam actually hit bottom around 1/9/13 at 9.5k, had a brief spike last weekend, and is currently on a slow upward trend, somewhere around 11K. Not enough to be pushing capacity on all the servers, but enough to keep at least 10 servers busy. This game isn't dying, but it is off to a slow, rocky start.

...and an hour after this post was made, the organized VS vs. NC event started and the entire bloody continent done blowed up.

The difference between PS2 and SWTOR are gargantuan...you cant even compare the two..

I think it is a multitude of things, the thing is people will usually play more than one game.

For shooters you have this, BF3, the cods, the halo games, counter strike etc, not to mention other big MMOs like guild wars or WoW.

The game has been out for 6 weeks, so it's got to learn to adapt to changes and player tactics that they didn't expect.

My friends and I still have fun in this game. But, its starting to wear on my friends and I on the problems that are out there. One of the problems that has been getting worse is the hacking, scripting, etc. reported people and to see them a week later and still doing it. Getting rocket podded to death from a aircraft that isn't there over and over and still not banned. The highly argued and debated about VS "easy mode" factor. After playing all 3 factions, I can say, just from experience, that VS is the easiest of the 3. Then there is the 3 continents but only 1 contient really worth being on issue. Certs take a very long time to get. My friends and I are not pro players and we know that but, how it takes weeks to get enough to "buy" a new weapon or upgrade/outfit weapons and vehicles we like to use is crazy. K/D ratio is making it just a deathmatch and not a team battle game.

Its been a while since I got hooked on a fun FPS game but, again in my IMHO, these issues will hurt PS2 future.

For a game that's dying I've been in some great battles the last few nights, the proper heading would have been "My server is dying"

1. relased at beta state(for cashing in b4 xmas). dont blame the devs though. that decision was made by some economic consultants, and the SOE board obeyed, as usual.
2. infested with hackers, in particular on weekends. worse than PS1 alrdy.

the first point is irreversible. the second one will indeed kill the game rather sooner than later. and i dont see SOE doin anythg against it. they didnt do in PS1 either.
the sites/forums who sell these cheat programs are still there and accessible, full names known, sites have proper imprints, run by real companies indeed.
actually SOE should sue the living s-hit out of them but they are just too lazy or not interested.

This has been the problem plague with mega(not-real)game companies for a long time. Too lazy, make excuses for costing too much to fix yet the game gets the shaft and dies anyways. People are taught to not risk anymore. Just do the lazy, cheap, fast cash and burn way in colleges and other (cough) teaching programs.

The ones I feel for the most are the good men and women that make, develop, try to come up with a great game (and some of the CS people as well) but are silenced and neutered by non-gamer company, mega-fat cat CEO and board chairmen. To the devs and others behind the curtain that actually know what a game is and work hard to do so, PS2 is a great game and thank you!

Of course is the game dying. Do you honestly believe its gonna be around in 30 years? Eventually every game meets its end.
