The valkyrie is useless.

    It´s weakness is everything that throws bullets at it. Fly high and you´re meat for ESF´s, Lib´s and Gals. Fly at medium height you´re meat for any kind of AA with a high chance your passengers are dead to Flakk long before your Valk is.
    Fly low and every tanker will compete to get the exp for killing you.

    Lack of speed and armor in combination with a relatively huge frame make it way too easy to hit and kill. Either it needs way more armor and protection for its passengers, or it needs tremendous speed to avoid hits.

    The manual clearly shows how the designers of the Valk have no idea how PS2 is played. Fly low, really? Sorry but flying low is already super dangerous for ESF´s, and those are agile and fast and small. Every average tanker can hit the Valk when it flies low. The bigger the fight the higher the risk of flying low, you might get away with that in uncontested territory to avoid being detected by enemy aircraft but in a combatzone I bet you there will always be a tank, AV turret, or whatever taking aim and making quick work of your slowly moving broadside of a barn.

    It should not be a mini lib. It is a SUPPORT vehicle. Why is that so hard to understand? Or do you all fail to see that because all other vehicles in PS2 can also be used to farm? In contrast to PS1, PS2 doesnt have any true support units so far and I'm gladly accepting the Valkyrie as it is: a support-transport vehicle...



    Geez guys, give it some time, stop the premature crying. Use it the way its meant to be used and lets wait a week till we all got more experience with this vehicle. Besides, of course right now people try to farm the hell out of them, making them APPEAR even weaker than they are. Give it time to settle.

    So far what i saw of the Valk is squishyness, this thing needs an heavy armor slot as a weapon replacement, similar to the afterburners tanks of the esf. Something to trade firepower for resiliance. It would cost 1000 certs/ 700 sc

    Yeah fly low. This is especially doable on Hossin and Amerish (tried it on Amerish yesterday). The Valkyrie should fly low, try to stick behind hills (hiding it from view) and flank the enemy forces. Of course you will be shot if you try to fly headon as you would with a Liberator or Galaxy. Try to flank from a less contested angle.
    It is a quick insertion vehicle for dropping of 4-5 players on vital combat areas (droppoints, generators) and can also be used for dropping of Engineers and AV heavies behind enemy tank lines [imagine 1 Engi and 4x Lancer users dropping on a high cliff/hill behind the frontline].

    It is a good and cheap transport alternative for smaller outfits and squads. Much smaller, nimbler and faster and less visible than a Galaxy.

    just needs some resistance to flak, as does the people in the rumble seats, and the turret needs stabilization and a splash/damage buff.

    Its not 'useless'. Spent most of yesterday evening playing in one with outfit, and found many uses for them. Died a lot in the process, but that's how you learn.

    One thing it is not: a combat craft, you won't win a stand up fight against just about anything. So don't even try.

    Shoot, Scoot and drop a couple guys off to do some harm; keep moving, have them redeploy and drop them off somewhere else, fully reloaded to do more. A base with a few sundys around it... you can get em one by one, rocket pod on the way in, drop a couple guys with c4. Stealth is your friend.

    "Useless" is not exact, but no clue the Valkyrie at the moment is quite crap. I've tried it extensively today both as pilot and as passenger and I am shocked: 1 Max Unit with dual burster ripped us to shreds in like 3 seconds. 3 seconds are not enough to turn so that the enemy gets in the gunner's cone of fire, it's not enough to escape. Even if you fly low on the battlefield you barely have the time to land. 3 seconds again 1 anti-aircraft unit is not enough for anything.

    1 large flying unit with low resitance, medium speed, low combat capabilities, having no ejectable seats by default and carrying up to 6 soldiers is the perfect target for everyone on the battlefield. It's like a huge free XP xmas box flying around the battlefield.
    The Valkyrie is designed to carry a small team right in the middle of the battle but the true is those soldiers never get it to the heart of the battle: they turn into a fireball much before to reach the target.

    That thing needs a big boost to flak armor asap.

    to you personaly: it cant even do WHAT IT INTENDED TO DO. to do WHAT IT INTENDED TO DO ti must be flyint TANK WITH HUGE ARMOR PLATES ON SIDE like galaxy. ant even that not guarantees the survival of crew while it hotdrop.
    and who even bother using that crap if he dont gain any valuable reward? galaxy is just better in any direction.
    even flash works better cause it cloack and i can C4 2 tanks from rumble seats.

    i dont really think that crap need cloackind device cause it became one way tikket, or speed cause at least i want some differense in handeling. just lots of armor and more options to defend itself. darklight projectors, big medical aplicators in turret slots, sidemount turrets. just anything to make that crap do what any others cant do.

    personaly i think SOE intend to use that crap in any sort of tournamens and it will work in that situation. it cheap and its mobile but risky. but in tournamens GOAL OVER GAMEPLAY. and my goal in planetside is have fun not ******* carry 4 peasants to next point.

    What i have seen yesterday was impressive.
    Vanu side had some good scythe pilots steering 3 Valkyries and they performed the new chopper like old Scythes. It was turning, rolling up and down, sidesteps, hoovering. It was flying like dragonflies, perfect. Hard to counter, slippery like an eel and fast like an attacking dolphin *in short range - if the Valkyrie is in good hands. Pilots and rumble seat engineers and firing heavies. I guess, this days, weeks and even months experienced Vanu pilots are in advantage to fly the chopper very well because of their knowledge to move the flurry Scythe.

    ESF pilots of TR are using afterburner in low-level flights. Straight ahead and very fast - nothing to fly a Valk.
    ESF pilots of NC are using slow and controled turns with armor and throngs - nothing to fly a Valk.

    I guess both (TR and NC) have to learn to fly the Valk like a Scythe. Interesting stuff of a Valk in general is the fast transport of troops and light vehicles. A useful new supporter class if a faction is in need to react fast.

    Some are writing here at the forums that the Valk should get some buffs. I say that i am afraid that the Valk get a nerf some weeks later and i am not mocking. The Valkyrie doesn´t sucks. The valkyrie is a hidden star. ;)

    Flying around in the VR at first, I really enjoyed the valk as a whole. The guns seemed ok, and the speed was somewhat decent. Then I decide what I want to dump my 2000 certs i've been saving into, load up the valk, and head out. As soon a I get to a very small fight, I end up exploding without ANY chance at getting away from what was shooting at me because of the very low speed. What annoys me, is that what was shooting at me was small arms fire, and this is what took me out. I later decided to test what a battle rifle would do, and it took out what looked to be over 1/10 of the health of the valk (Kinda silly).

    Something I was kind of discouraged about too, was the fact that the turret can't turn in a 360 direction. It seems like it should have a 360 ball turret considering its low damage and ability to defend itself properly from ESFs.

    My suggestions would be:

    1. Give the poor valk a speed buff. If it is meant for brief light air support, give it the chance to actually be quick and get away from the action in time.

    2. Remove the damage from small arms fire and buff the flak resistance.

    3. Give it a 360 ball turret.

    The best place to fly this thing is Hossin. Ducking in and out of view with the trees and mountains gives great cover, making quick passes at enemy lines.

    Well that is where opinions differ :) The Valkyrie is a flying support-transport vehicle. It is a cheap, fast, nimble and smaller alternative to the Galaxy. Use it to flank the enemy, fly low, use cover (especially easy on Amerish and Hossin), and don't use it as a Liberator-substitute, flying head-on to the frontline. As a support vehicle it is not meant to tank damage or deal as much damage as a gunship (Lib).

    If you want armor plates, take the huge-*** Galaxy, (but beware that if there is more than one Skyguard the galaxy will, due to its sheer huge hitbox and being visible from 1000m, just as well get killed).

    And this game isn't just about raking up kills, getting XP from every single thing. It is also about teamwork, tactics and you honestly sound like a selfish kid if you say "and my goal in planetside is have fun not ******* carry 4 peasants to next point." . Then the Valkyrie is definitely not the right vehicle for you.


    Honestly this game could use some less selfish COD "I WANNA WIN" kids and more teamplayers.

    fly it as a helicopter. stay low. it flys fast enough (it does 190kph) and its armor isnt that bad.

    never ever give it cloak! a flying c4 machine will ruin the game.

    My Prowler with deploy is a better anti-air cannon than ever before, since the valkyrie got implemented.


    It is a really huge target, and due to its speed usually not really hard to hit.

    It is a SUPPORT vehicle.
    - Support only means it has AMS, Repair and Supply modules and some considerable staying power or it's worthless. There's no "Support" and no "Logistics" in PS2, no more than there are actual tactics that can work against a massive Zerg. So as you say exactly because ALL OTHER VEHICLES can be used to farm, this Valk is just a let down. You are MEANT to farm in PS2, it is designed in fact so that you too get constantly farmed. If you want a glorified Taxi so bad grab an ESF and dump it after farming a bit so that it's not a complete waste. No need to Cert up a flying coffin and take 3-4 more people down with you when it gets rekt. Are you gladly accepting the Valkyrie as a target or as a pilot I wonder... :p

    Also I'm not crying, I'm actually discussing? Geez what's up with that crying thing, EVERYONE that disagrees with you is crying apparently? I was pointing out that the Valk isn't viable even though it sure is fun to pilot. I'm not against it, I just want to see it improve, catch up with the other options we have for the exact same purpose. Why would I pull a Valk now? There's NO REASON, there should be one. Even the Harasser after the changes has some use, there is some utility to it for sure and a lot more than you'll find the Valkyrie offers. In fact they plan to BUFF the Harasser despite all this, what's that telling you? That alone to me says the Valk is actually pathetic right now :p

    whooow flank 48+ (or 96+ in this days). so what 4(6) peasants sould do after the flank enemy? hack terminals and turrets? what you personal goal after flanking? maybe give everybody ammo, or healing? or sitting with sniper rifle on cliff and warming it?

    Of Course it is.

    Know what? Go away, n00bs are not allowed. Everybody start playng game cause they want win. It's human being. Result of evolution on that planet.
    And galaxy can kill 2 skyguards by just raming them.

    It should be immune to small arms fire. There is no reason why the Valk itself should take dmg from small arms. You can already shoot out the passengers, that´s enough imho.
    Also that whole fly low stuff I´m seeing here. It´s so fun, I´ve yet to see someone pulling it off decently during anything but super small scale battles. In everything thats bigger than a very small fight those groundhuggers get shot out of the sky by tanks.

    Risk vs reward is just not there for the valk. If I want to drop a small squad I´d rather pay a few res extra, equip an ESF with AB tanks and drop as SL where I want to, put up a beacon and have the rest of my folks drop in fast. Since the Valk can´t even drop people like a Gal you are at double the risk of dying. First you lack resilience then you´re forced go in low to drop your passengers. I´ve shot down several Valks yesterday when they tried to dispatch their droops. AP shell to the face gets you lotsa certs these days:>

    Personally I would add either a wraith style cloak or vanguard style shield and increase its speed a bit. At least this way the valk can use the cloak/shield to get in and deploy the passengers and get out without getting shredded allowing it to function as a high speed air transport.

    It's not useless, it's just NOT a flying MBT.

    I have seen people trying to use the Val solo and two man , this isn't going to work please stop giving people free kills.

    Its a light assault platform i.e shoot and scoot yet most people are trying to use it like a Lib and get frustrated that
    they die fast ?

    It's working as intended, it doesn't need anything except maybe a small speed/handling buff.
