The TRAP

Most actually seem very pleased with the TRAP, from what I've seen. Granted, it's not really much of a long ranged sniper rifle...but it's a unique weapon that will tear people up at close ranges and can be used pretty effectively at medium range as well. It seems to have the most versatility.

I believe you guys actually made out this time around...but not in the way everyone amongst the TR wanted. So, I can understand the bad taste in your mouth...so to speak.

Uuuuhm, I begin to think that the silencer (aka reduced bullet velocity) doesn't work well with the Trap's burst mechanic. Did someone else notice this?
  3. SEMoslaw

I really don't like single shot option on that rifle it takes forever to switch between thing you need and this weapon is useless on ranges where you should use single shoot.
  4. MrMurdok

Couldn't find good use for the single shot, but during the 1 hour time I had to play around with the TRAP, I was working the living hell out of my left thumb, hitting 'B' to keep toggling between double and triple burst. I've been getting more accurate hits than with the SOAS, my HS ratio is double compared to the SOAS.

Overall, I'm pleased, I'm still working my way around the recoil/bloom of the burst modes, same way I did with the SOAS, when I finally learn how to properly pace my shots, I know per fact it will suit me better.

    bumb?
  6. DxAdder

The Trap is an upgrade for anyone that likes mid range combat other than that I would pass on it.

I'm just going to say it...it's fugly lol. I think the model would have fit VS a little better. It just doesn't look TR to me.

Other than that, I haven't tried it and may not at all. Though I like my SOAS, it is still very situational and I hardly get to use it. Maybe the TRAP does better in that regard, I just don't like burst fire weapons and prefer a full auto where I can burst fire myself. It doesn't look like it would really fit me. Unfortunately, people seem to just say weapons are awful because they don't like them. What is a terrible gun for me will feel OP in somebody else's hands.
  8. SEMoslaw

If that helps I will tell you that I love Sabr and I don't like Trap. It feel so unfinished that 1x is completely usless. I think they really should go back to 2x + full auto modes and fix stats. That would be fun and unique gun but now is only boring/frustrating.
  9. Trilateral

No. SOAS and the other auto scouts are the most versatile weapons available to the infiltrator. They are very accurate and maintain accurary on the move. Yea it takes some experience and skill to use effectively, but its worth it when you get there. The artemis (vs equilavent) is probably my favorite weapon in game right now simply because it's a beast at any range inside 60m.
  10. SEMoslaw

BTW why this weapon doesn't have compensator and adv forward grip like SABR?
  11. Joculari

As a sniper rifle I don't like it, in fact I dispise it. The only viable way to snipe is with single shot and at range the damage is so bad that it'll take a dozen shots to kill someone. Extremely poor damage for a sniper rifle. Using double or triple shot modes at range is completely useless as well. Every other sniper rifle in the game outperforms this rifle in every way.

They said it was a patch with new Empire sniper rifles. But this isn't a sniper rifle.

    That being said..

As a SCOUT RIFLE I love it. At semi-long ranges I can poke enemies with single shot mode while moving forward, then switching to double shot mode at medium ranges, then shredding them with triple shot at close range. Though I do feel the rifle needs to get an increase in mag size to around 25-30 ish(even if total ammo stays the same) as triple shot mode eats ammo too fast, and since it's not a long range sniper rifle it needs to have that little bit of extra few burts available imo.

They need to change it from sniper rifle to scout rifle because it just doesn't work as a sniper rifle. Or possibly change single shot to do more damage per shot like the other semi-auto/bolt action rifles, but greatly increase the time between shots so it's slower than both types, would allow people to use it as a sniper rifle at long ranges. Though might mess up balance?

The design could be a bit better though but that's a matter of taste.
  12. RockPlanetSide2

As is already shown by multiple people Auxing it really fast and for anybody just using it in game, anyone can clearly see it is basically a shotgun/SMG/scout rifle (something that should never exist).

I will bet anything that they nerf this into the ground, because right now it is just an OP silly weapon.

So just get your AUX on it while it is in EASY MODE, because after this gets nerfed it will be horrifically bad.

"Someone got AUX on weapon OP!!111oneone"

    Don't get TOO excited.

The gun I Auraxiumed the fastest was the Underboss, with a KPH of 77. That's a secondary weapon. A pistol.

I auraxiumed this gun with an average KPH of 72.5. This is a primary weapon.

This gun is definitely not "easy mode" and is, in fact, very challenging to use successfully. As I mentioned earlier, you can't be having an "off day" and still do well with this weapon. That said, I also disagree with people who are saying it's underpowered. I feel that the dev team did a great job getting this weapon to a point where it's fun to use without being OP.
  15. Riddlley

It feels powerful enough to pack a punch. The main thing I personally noticed is it does get outclassed by specialised weapons like BASRs and SMG's though. (In the places those weapons excel.) It is very potent indeed if you choose the firing mode and distance based on what they have... I enjoy it because its a flexible and effective weapon. Its not OP. Sits just right.

Its a "sniper" rifle and sniper rifles don't get nice attachments. :D

My thoughts after some VR with the Trap is "Why would I use this over a vandal?" Vandal provides the same doubletap headshots while being more reliable at range, with similar TTK under ideal conditions.

Vandals also more accurate when you do get a close range exchange and need to fire unscoped quickly.
  18. Dragonblood

bump, because I dont to open another topic for it.

You should never judge a weapon based on some time shooting stationary targets in the VR. Ever.

As far as the TRAP-M1 is concerned, it is an interesting weapon. It seems to perform pretty well in the 50-75m range. I think it's "niche" attribute is that the burst fire allows for a bit more forgiveness at that range, as opposed to the HSR-1/KSR-35/Vandal which require precise hits on moving mid-range targets.

Despite the forgiveness of sending 18 rounds down range at a time, I find some difficulty in being accurate in good scenarios. Up close it is easy to burst right to the head, but once you get 30-40m out, even on a stationary target the recoil seems to make it hard to pop the head rapidly (unlike what I can do with the HSR-1). I had a few frustrating deaths where I was bursting a target that I had the jump on, only to have the target whip around and pelt me with fully auto fire in the head from 50m. I think the TRAP actually applies a pretty low damage output at these ranges without perfect burst accuracy.

I've been able to use the 3 round burst indoors pretty effectively, and it works well in towers too.

Overall, it's a good addition to the TR arsenal. As far as how it compares to our other weapons, it's hard to say. The SOAS-20 feels more deadly, and the HSR-1 feels more accurate. I suppose that puts the TRAP somewhere in-between. I certainly need to spend more time with it, and will hopefully make some good video footage for you all soon as well!

Currently using 2x, compensator/foregrip. 2x burst primarily, 3x burst indoors. EMP grenade bandolier (I found that there is plenty of ammo so I don't really need ammo belt).

Some of us aren't as forgiving about dropping 1k certs of cash mooney to buy something that feels largely equal or inferior to a vandal on good faith. Which makes VR the ultimate deciding factor. I don't see the forgiveness of 18 rounds when gauging your TTK is far more difficult with ranged burst scenarios compared to single taps.

Nothing in this post gave me any indication of why I should load this up compared to a vandal, so I'm just going to assume there is none.
