The removal of spawn room roofs

    So they removed some of the spawn room roofs to allow easier targeting of camping air - but at the same time, they haven't extended the lock-on range of AA rockets.

    So nothing has changed. Libs and galaxies still sit up high and blindly shell the spawn room - this time, with no obstructions. *sigh*

    If you can hit them with a lock-on from inside the spawn room then you can also hit them with a dual burster max which is more reliable than a lock-on when you're shooting from inside.

    Uhh why would they extend the range of AA lock ons when they already lock past infantry render range, this means they can't hit you if you can't even lock on to them, IMO they should be reducing the lock on range of AA to 300, and ground lock ons to 200m.

    I completely agree with this being one of the daftest and most backfireing ideas I've ever seen implemented.. Now you're a free kill for any pilot with half a brain and a finger on the hoverbutton.. So lame..

    Again AA lock ons work out to 400m, infantry only render at 300m, if you can't hit it with your lock on, it can't hit you.

    You do realize how ridiculously close 300m is ? The current range is around 450~500m I believe and at that range I, a terrible pilot have no problem seeing any HA that locks on me, granted I don't see them at first but as soon as the rocket's fired all you have to do is backtrack it's path a little and you'll easily find them.

    Decreasing the ranges will only make the already quite useless lock-ons weaker.

    The problem with this scenario is that you don't even render to the pilot till hes within 300m, and due to speed and lag a lot of the time its not till you're within 200m that infantry render to aircraft, lol.

    Right now the only issue with lock ons is there seems to be a bug where they will lose lock for no reason.

    Honestly if you don't understand how the game works and are just going to make **** up, you really shouldn't be trying to make changes to the game.

    You can't kill infantry past 300 metres? Surely this isn't right, what about snipers?

    I dunno, the whole recent patch was a silly idea, so it's unsurprising that they likewise didn't think too much about removing the spawn roofs.

    While you guys are all complaining about air and lockons you're forgetting who else benefits greatly from the removal of spawn roofs.

    You can't harm what it does not render for you in game. So no, you can't kill infantry beyond 300m with any weapon. In big fights this distance is even smaller, since the rendering engine cuts down the render view to cope.

    Well I guess that answers that then! I am stunned you cannot engage beyond 300m with any weapon, I confess I don't snipe much, but I never realised how small the battlefield was in the game.

    You can render infantry in a 70658.83m area around you. That's hardly "small". Vehicles render out to ~1000m.

    Its easier for air now. They stay of of lockon range anyway.
    Before, you had a roof to protect you. Now, they swoop in and kill everything on the roof before running away and repeat.
    Apparently SOE thought this would help against aircraft(?...)

    Area is missing the point (and I believe the number is 283,000m², or about 70 acres). 300m is a pretty damn short distance for computer games, sure most of the fight in Infrantryside is going on close-range, but the fact that we have sniper rifles which are used for > 500m engagements suggested otherwise.

    But still, it makes this thread moot. If they can't hit you outside of that range then so be it - that's good enough for me.

    I think the spawn rooms are fine as is. Good tankers and bombers can kill the guys up there anyway. Even with roofs, its a death zone I avoid at all costs when playing Infantry in large battles.

    The only reason I could see for removing the roofs is that I actually use them with HE to splash the guys I cant see or hit. No roof, no splash.
