[Guide] The Real Good Guys.

I would argue that the TR government is better than the NC at the role that you just attributed to the NC.

Because the TR is the perfect execution of socialism, at least on Earth, everyone is equal so everyone has the best life they can. The NC system would mean that a few people (the presidents of the mega-corporations) are at the very apex of society while the vast majority sit on the bottom rung with no hope of advancement.

Well, AFAIK (more of PS1 version):

Terran Republic is a government, formed on Earth to end wars and terrorism. It worked, converting things to kinda socialism and destroying any opposition in process. Auraxium was a TR colony. When Vanu (the alien) tech was found and immortality tech discovered, the TR leadership decided to hide it, since it could endanger stability. They were planning on a closed and military application of that technology. However, the terran scientists didn't agree. And there were a lot of scientist there... Peaceful meetings had no effect, so they stole (well, saved) that artifacts from TR. They proclaimed that technilogy based on alien artifacts is a way to progress and perfect human beings, solve a lot of problems. This was the start of an open gunfire between the army and those who shared scientists' ideas. They broke away and called themselves Vanu Sovereignty.

NC is another story. A conglomerate of terran megacorporations, wishing to raise the limits of terran socialism put on their power and revenue. They actively created mercenary units, sponsored terrorists and idealised freedom fighters alike. Their goal was to overthrow the government, but they never had a chance in open fight. On Earth. On Auraxium, all the corporations were present and as well, their supporters, their workers and "security". After the scientists (future VS) started the break, corporations understood, that this is their chance. They supported VS and fought side by side against TR. However, with time the contradictions arise. NC did not like the "human enhancement", rising technocratic religion and eugenic programs of VS, VS never loved the corporations' wish to get their hand on the Vanu tech. So, tensions gone too far and NC broke away from VS as a separate faction. Now the only corporation that was the most clever to make profits on it all stayed independent is Nanite Systems.

Don't fool yourself. There is no real analogues in the world for PS factions.

TR should be closer to USSR, but have way less strict economy control. Probably, evolved China (still, not a full copy). They may be oppressive, but they brought piece on Earth.

NC strictly do not have any analogue. There are corporations there. There are freedom fighters there. There are terrorists there. All kind of people. However, the driving force are the corporations. And if you think, that they have stayed on Earth... You are wrong. At least, look at NS. Auraxium was a far colony, so corporations have strong divisions here.

VS were never terrorists, leave that to NC. Again, no real world analogue here. Its the faction scientists and their supporters, who wanted to deny military application of the tech for TR and let all people benefit from it. As there were guys obsessed with science and progress, the ideas of transhumanism were very strong there. The only way for the new faction to survive against the TR war machine was to utilise the new tech anyway. After some time, however, the original ideas has gone a bit too far.

Which is the morally "better" empire? Well... which one is telling the story?

TR are a good government who where fair but misunderstood. Their leaders grew corrupt and didn't care about their subjects as much as they should have. The NC then broke away and started a war because they wanted more pocket money, then tried to justify everything they did. They say they fight for peace and freedom, when rreally they fight for the companies that govern them. The VS ar scientists that broke away from the TR and screwed over the NC. They stole tech that was going to be applied to military projects and used it for the betterment of mankind. They then started to improve human anatomy, and nobody complained. Whether this is because of it was all fine or because of silencing the people who complained is unclear. The VS also could (eventually) resurrect people and chad the option to apply painkillers to the "test-subjects", so nothing was very bad here.

The TR went downhill, but still provided enough for their armies and citizens and focussed on making the war with the NC better for the people. The NC did no such thing and blamed it on the TR for "oppressing them". VS was minding their own business, when NC came along and declared war on them. They drove them away, only to kindle a fury which decimated the NC years later, giving rise to TR supersoldiers. Eventually all of this became too much for the commanders and high-ranking personnelm, so they tried to escape. The footsoldiers captueeda nd killed them. The war became an endless struggle, which is where we come in.

So, I have come to the (mostly) logical conclusion that the NC are the bad guys. TR are a good, moral choice for people who want to do the "right" thing. However, this is quite short-sighted and although they resorted to extremist means, the VS only wish to better mankind. If he NC and TR had left them alone, they would have done it quietly and probably succeded, then either escaped from Auraxis or came to the others, maybe peacefully. If not, they would have dominated the other factions, and eventually all would be for the best. Unfortunatley the Vanu are ery dead-set in their goal, but the other 2 factions are not in agreement with them. TR would be afraid for the people and fight back, and NC would worry (yet again) about their pocket lining, and MAYBE (to be fair probably) their populace.

This would make Auraxis hell again.

Nanite Systems would manufacture arms, the Vanu Soverignty would resort to even more dire means, the New Conglomerates sponsors would profit and , under the wrong leadership, try to prolong the war, although the people of the NC would indeed want to put a stop to the wars. The Terran Republic wouold be hindered in their efforts to return to Earth and possibly grow more corrupt as the existing commanders eventually grow insane or lose morals.

Nothing would progress. So nobody is a "good guy (or gal)". But Auraxis would, in my opinion, be better for humans under TR rule, but humanity in general would benefit more from the VS. The NC might eventually become part of the TR again, or actualy fight for freedom, but there would be no significant gain other than "I told you so" lessons.

So, as a rule, think outside your own ideals and actually put thought into it when making a statement about who is the right choice.

IMO, the NC and the TR are the closest to good guys in the game. They want peace. If done right, the TR and NC can make some agreements and leave each other alone. The VS however, they're straight up bad guys. Its like Albert Einstein going Dr. Frankenstein.

I see the TR as the evil statist empire, the NC as the heroic individualist rebels trying to win their freedom and the Vanu ... well, let's just say I looted the corpse of a Vanu soldier once and all he had was a copy of Dianetics and an 8"x10" glossy of Tom Cruise.

The TR and NC are tied on that one. The TR wish to control the whole populace under their domination, similar to Orson Well's 1984. Meanwhile, the NC wish to throw the world into perpetual turmoil, a constant reign of terror, where the corporations will profit. Even if not completely chaotic, the new civilization they would establish would be little better than the TR's, as corruption will permeate society and be called "progress."

Only the VS truly wish to advance humanity without any motive for self-gain, and the new society we would bring about would be stable and free.

thats kinda biased actualy... and really vs idea of advancement doesnt guarante a safe passage to perfect towards the "perfect" society, i mean the thing that made them believe in the idea in the first place is a alien ghost dream that made the person contacting it initialy commiting suicide,anyway what if the person contacting the dream actualy know there is a whole conspiracy or something behind this alien propecy thing that made him fearing it of happening and the whole suicide was not his own will but the aliens do it for not alligning with their idea,not saying the idea bad but idk it just felt fishy to me since its not clear what gonna happen next if it actualy happen.
And communism is that bad anyway look what the original TR did on earth, they unite the whole world in peace and order while on the flip side anything that against the goverment is almost instantly, consider that bad but hey just follow the rules and your fine i mean its "perfect" right everything perfect as long you didnt do anything the goverment and why would you do such things if the world is "perfect" anyways the only reason being is idk ideas boredom ?.
Also lastly nc, you said they wanted to turn the world into a big mess of chaotic **** hole, no i say they might be bad for the possibily of them converting everyone into their slaves due to the warbonds since hey no one gonna support some freedom fighter for free right ?
but still the idea of nc corporation controling everyone as slave isnt that bad anyway, since if you are a smart slave you can end up in the board room, also lastly dead slave is a bad slave so no more world hunger if food isnt an option just use NANITES.

imo the only problem with all 3 is that NONE OF THEM is having a non extremist goverment on their back to provide proper democracy to the people which make everyone a slave if any of them win
