A recent study analysed voting patterns/preferences vs. laws made for the US recently, he concluded it had basically become an Oligarchy (that is the rich and powerful got the laws they wanted no matter what the majority wanted).

But really NC = Freedom!
  2. Outreach

Like I said, it amazes me how many people never bothered to read. VS and NC had a peace treaty and were allies at one point. Until NC broke it off because they didn't like VS "genetic tinkering". NC and TR weren't just over there fighting amongst themselves. VS was there the entire time, but unlike the other two factions were against fighting and trying to sit it out. Not to mention actively trying to get TR and NC to sit down to peace talks.

Please stop picking and choosing which information you want to acknowledge and ignore. That or you need to go back and reread because you are conveniently missing huge chunks of the story. Not even sure how you can sit there and force yourself to believe the VS struck first, when they actively avoided fighting and were the only ones in favor of peace. You also chose to ignore that TR and NC didn't declare war on each other until after the peace talks that VS pushed for failed. It was then that VS decided to declare war on TR and NC because instead of working together after being stranding on a alien world they choose to go to war with each other. VS finally realized that they were both unfit to lead humanity and were going to get everyone killed or worse.
  3. Arkenbrien

The VS were not tinkering with genetics. They were becoming one with the nanites.
  4. ColonelChingles

Can you site a source for this? I can't find any evidence of a VS-NC treaty in the lore archives. Really the NC just went off and made their own underground city far away from the VS and TR, but that's hardly a treaty (if that's the definition you're using then they also had a treaty with the TR).

Nor can I find evidence that the NC "broke off" the treaty, mostly because I can't find mention of a treaty in the first place.

Can you show me where it says that the VS started the peace talks?

I read what I can from the lore archives, but I can't find any mention of a lot of the points you're making. I'd be very glad if you could show me what document's in the official PS2 lore that you're referring to, because there are only 3 documents that take place near the outbreak of the war... the rest are from about 200 years earlier.

    Thanks!

Wow we have totally different views.

TR- Ultra militaristic think North Korea/N4zis/Romans/Persians. They were looking for more planets to conquer and rule.

NC- Corporations, they like to buy politicians who make laws. Think current USA.

VS- Scientists, mostly tech oriented. They have found a better way but no one wants to believe. How do you not defend this till death. How can you go back to the archaic ways once you've discovered a much more efficient way to do things.

This is my view of the lore.
  6. NinjaTurtle

There is no good or bad side. The ideologies of each faction is written is a way where there are clear good and bad motivations behind them all.

Freedom within a controlled society run by large corporations and industry where the populace is always chasing and desiring the newest and greatest technology...... Sound like anything?
  7. TheBlindFreak

TR are the good guys? So, I see you enjoyed the TR propaganda films. That would explain why your lore is wrong.

Obviously the democratic socialist Terran Republic.

Death to the bourgeois. Death to the techno-fundamentalists.

As others have stated, who one thinks the good and bad guys are is a result of ideological preference. Of course, there are wrong ideologies, so other individuals are simply misguided.

The TR values order, economic equality, and stability, but they take it too far in their brutal suppression of human rights and their utilitarian, collectivist ideology. Their historical counterpart would be the old Soviet Union and China, as well as some modern countries I would mention but would result in trouble.

The NC values highest freedom, lack of interference in all spheres of life, and in social equality, but are chaotic and ultimately are as nonchalant about principles as the TR. Their closest historical counterpart would be the French Revolution.

The VS values highest enlightenment, piety, and respect, and they alone will stand up for principles that others have abandoned. Their historical counterparts are the USA at its founding, the Austrian Empire, and a modern country I would mention but might cause controversy.

    actually no

the NC was created before the journey through the wormhole, they were created first to keep an eye on the TR, but as they became more and more greedy they wanted more control, so they upped their propeganda and made the TR look terrible

the NC destroyed several several ships in their attempts to take over after they went though the wormhole. after they found auraxsis 2 years after getting stranded on the otherside of the wormhole, they settled, and then there is a 175 year gap in history between the settlement and the start of the war.

but the TR are the good guys, the NC and the VS are the bad guys
  11. AdmiralArcher

the NC is more evil than the TR, they are blackmailing their supporters to keep them fighting. the TR started out great and still is, but when they went though the wormhole they lost connection to earth and the NC mutnied, they started this war out of greed

the the VS are misguided......the vanu are why this whole thing started in the first place with the dammed wormhole

I think the VS are more like a cult or an enclave of radicals.

They are actually bigger control freaks than the TR.

While the TR demands you to do whatever the officer says, the Vanu demands you to completely give up your former identity and conform to their way of life in every way, both physically and mentally.

If anything, they require the highest level of commitment from their members than any of the other factions.

I disagree, the VS advocate freedom, but a different form of freedom than the NC espouse. Whereas self-discipline may seem constricting, in reality it liberates one's being and allows him to better pursue the truth.

The TR deny any individuality, to them the only thing that matters is the State.
  14. Ninyth

The bad guys are whoever has the most population and is steamrolling the map. You're a good guy if log onto an alt and help out the weaker faction so imo the good guys are relative to population.

Freedom in conformity though, not the classical sense.

You are only free in the sense that you share the thoughts and ideas of the Sovereignty, as self-discipline is not the only restriction that they put upon you.

Then again, being part of a post-humanistic intellectual enclave is not necessarily such a bad thing.

The TR were the good guys... and then wormholes collapsed, food and space shortages while adrift in space, crazy people blowing up civilian ships (one of which had the former leader of the very successful and longstanding empire of the TR back on Earth) because they were too used to all of the freedom's and cushy lifestyles they had back on Earth. Being cooped up in a small room aboard an interplanetary vessel with rationed food and water because there simply wasn't enough to go around... and people get pissed and start blowing $#!% up. Knowing humanity today, this makes perfect sense and is disturbingly believable.

Just imagine if we all had to be herded onto tankers because the world was actually flooding. Sure, people might cooperate with the people in charge for a while just being grateful they're still alive, but how well do you think that lifestyle would go and for how long? Once they get comfortable with their situation, they'll want at least what they had before the world went to hell. Entitlement is in no short supply.

So Connery is killed, pretty much the guy that was leading the expedition through the wormhole, while in negotiations with the terrorist factions among the remaining fleet. Waterson is put in charge, and he pretty much locks down everything and essentially revokes human rights in the name of security, which kind of makes sense when you're aboard a vessel that is the only thing between innocent people and the vacuum of space, but still people didn't like the idea of random searches and seizures.

Basically, @$$holes forced the TR to tighten security, which only made more and bigger @$$holes, and it became a downward spiral from there. The NC "soldiers" bought precisely what the big corporations were selling them - freedom, even if only their own freedoms for the sake of profit - and the VS are techno-warshippers that are following those that hear a dead guy's voice. Really, the purple team's lore is the weakest. They're kind of there to be the "aliens" of Planetside 2.

In terms of lore the TR are the closest thing to "good guys" you're going to get, their way of life is cruel but their cause is just, they are pretty much just defending themselves at this point, they never attacked anybody. NC are probably the most evil in that their leaders are greedy, deceptive sheepherders.

Lol, hey, let's just all look at it our own way, and declare our own faction the good guys, in total ignorance of what's provided in the lore, rather lets just add our own little personal bits to it! I'm pretty sure that's exactly how it's supposed to work. Makes for an interesting conversation, at least.
  19. Thardus

The way I see it, the VS are like Guy and Eep from The Croods, while the NC and TR are like the rest of the family, terrified of improving or adapting, because they refuse to leave the old ways.

    Technology is might!
  20. Fang7.62

VS - blindly follow an idea of crazy dude who killed himself after having hallucinations, declare war on anybody who is sane and consider reverse-engineering alien **** they didnt invent themselves and barely understand it "technology, evolution and ****"... buncha dopes.

TR - remnants of the earth's military, where the TR army servers the global-socialist state that isnt tyrrany but is harsh on the businnes, in no way originally oppressors, but after getting isolated from earth, having the reasonable leadership assasinated, they turned into classic military junta, drunk on power maintained by force.

NC - employees and hirelings of corporations that were send to auraxis to secure resources and technologies away from the republics regulations - to advance their technologies and make money obviously. When the employees got isolated from their superiors they cant be no longer driven by supposed "greeedy, evil and whatnot" corporations, they are just a bunch of engineers (actual science), workers, miners and security contractors that want to be left the **** alone which is a no-go for the must-control-everything TR junta so they used that they got and know to fight for freedom, thats all :p
