The Phoenix is a really, really awesome toy.

It can shoot from safety, it can 1-hit kill an ESF (gives even more satisfaction than shooting a plane with a tank due to the 15 minute flight time that builds tension) and MANA turret, and if used in groups of 5-6, it's the perfect ambushing device.

That's not to mention it allows to see what's behind the hill, and that's significant for people who don't want to stick their head out and see what shoots them.

As for the medic- it's also a valid choice, but so is the engineer or LA.

Phoenix is an awesome toy but I wouldn't recommend it as an early cert unless it's a toy that someone wants to play with. 1000 certs can be put into something much more useful at that stage, like initial certing on a tank or a MAX second arm AI and AV.

Well, I think HA is a better choice for new players because it increases their chances of surviving. I'm guessing frustration is one of the biggest reasons why people quit the game so I'm trying to help them survive longer.

I think we're just going to disagree about the NV scope. It does have its limitations but I think its a really great choice for a HA with a cqc weapon, you just have to understand those limitations and you'll be fine. But I'm not against having another x1 score for the situations where NV isn't really useful. And the limitations of the scope will actually help you with situational awareness in a way. ;)
  4. ViXeN

Yeah, its pretty awesome. I would happily trade our Lancer for the Phoenix.

Well no, many new players aren't going to know who I am anymore than they will know Mustarde, Wrel, WalterWhite, Zoidbergenstein or anyone else because they are new to the community as well as the game. While I may have an ego I don't presume to think everyone is going to know who I am. That is just not realistic, I don't care who you are.

I certainly didn't know most of them when I first started playing. I still don't know who Mustarde is even now, other than recognizing his forum sig when I see it. I'm not saying that in a bad way, I just don't have a habit of checking out all of the YouTubers and bloggers. The main reason why I knew Wrel aleady was because he is from Tribes so I have known his name for years. I wouldn't have any problems if they did tell us a little bit about their background and accomplishments. I don't view it as bragging when its in that context.

And I definitely don't care about any "reputation" I may have among certain players because I know its based on complete BS and I have no intentions of changing anything. I welcome the hate and love to trash-talk as much as anyone but there is a time and place for it. When I'm trying to help new players get better at the game by spending quite a bit of time writing a guide for them, this isn't the place for the hate. Constructive criticism is fine but people should be mature enough to leave out their personal issues with me in threads like this...

I wasn't trying to brag, I was trying to show my play style and that Im successful with it.

There seems to be people here who think this is a tactical shooter, where people shoot stand still mostly and move super slowly like it's Rainbow Six lol. I disagree....The best players are the ones who are always moving and don't miss in hipfire or ADS.

This is a Rambo type of game IMO...I literally play Solo all the time and Im good at it...Im sure with a squad, Rambo type players benefit a lot from it too tho.

Well... this isn't really true while I don't appreciate or use Mustardes style (dirty cloaky thingys clogg my mattocks), Wrel is featured on the planetside front page ...

That certainly is a shame .. because with some minor fine tuning and definite "******" reduction you could provide a valuable resource to all, you're passionate about the game, write well (sans attitude) and are happy to do it ... shame really.
  7. DJPenguin

Disagree with the guide but the impetuous hate train should stop. The thread was made with good intentions to help new players not to create the drama that has transpired thus far. This coming from someone who was (hopefully jokingly) insulted in the guide itself.
  8. ViXeN

Don't be silly, Penguin. Of course it was a joke. You don't die constantly, just often. :D I don't really care about the hate train but it should definitely not happen in threads like this... Its detrimental to the community when people post hate in guides or videos that are supposed to help new players. As much as I hate Reddit, I can understand why the devs prefer using it over the forums. This place can be pretty toxic.
  9. ViXeN

I already do provide a valuable resource. Whether or not the entire community likes me is completely irrelevant as far as my guides are concerned. They still provide helpful advice to new players. This isn't a freaking popularity contest here and I can't say I care if someone hates me. Some people like me and some dislike me. That's life. I'm sure I will somehow find a way to keep on living without their approval. LOL I will point out that I had 18 positive responses in this thread and only 10 people who came here to troll me and the first guide had pretty good results as well so the haters seem to be in the minority. Why would I change anything just to make a small number of people on the forum happy?

If someone has a problem with me they can....

And honestly, if having an ego and bragging bothers them so much they wouldn't have lasted a week in the old Tribes community, where trash-talk and bragging were an everyday thing. If they think I have an ego, I can't imagine how they would react if they ran into old Tribes clans like FTW. There would be a river of tears and a lot of raging I'm guessing. LOL Just Freshcut alone could probably make their heads explode with rage. Yeah, the Tribes community would have eaten these people alive. I grew up with the Tribes community so when people brag or trash-talk, it has absolutely no effect on me at all. I expect it. Most of the people in the competitive community did it and no one took it too seriously. People just need to freaking relax. Oh, I just happened to notice that you have "No. 1 Brawler MAX" in your sig. Not that I don't approve (I do) but wouldn't that be considered bragging? ;)

As far as this perceived "attitude" that I have... Who really has the attitude here? How often do you see me making personal attacks in other people's threads? When someone puts a lot of work into a post or guide, do you see me flaming them in the thread? In fact, other than responding to other people who insult me first, how often do you see me making personal attacks at all? If people didn't flame me, there would be no drama at all on here. I'm not the one causing it and I'm not the one with the horrible attitude. I just give people what they give me. If you don't come at me with a hostile attitude then we won't have any issues. But if you act like a dick then I can dish it out pretty well myself. ;)
  10. NinjaTurtle

Yeah Liberators and Tanks spamming explosive death is probably the biggest cause of frustration especially for new players. Even a HA doesn't survive very long against those.

Don't take it seriously, men just don't like being outdone by women and most are too macho to admit when they are bettered by one

That was in no way supposed to sound sexist, just an observation that in a male dominated environment we like to be the alpha

The problem is that you go out of your way to remark how good you are unnecessarily, even in the guide, I personally couldn't give a **** if you do it or not (though I'm pretty sure you think you're way better than you really are :p), but well, that's where the criticizing comes from. And the community of this game is clearly completely different from your average competitive gaming community.
  12. ViXeN

Well, we only really have three choices to deal with that: Stay inside buildings, redeploy or get a lot of AA and try to take them down. But at least we have more options now that are safe for infantry besides biolabs. SNA is a great base for infantry and there are a few others. I hope they continue to add more like that.
  13. ViXeN

Oh it certainly is different and not in a good way either. This place could use a little bit of that Tribes mentality. I still don't think that is the source of the criticism because other people do it too without being criticized, as I have pointed out. And if other people's bragging bothers people that much, then I have a hunch they have some insecurity issues. Someone can brag for three pages and it won't bother me. I'm pretty confident about my own skill as we all know. ;) Also, a lot of it isn't really criticism or certainly not anything constructive anyway. Its usually just childish name-calling and personal attacks. I mean you can't seriously approve of that kind of behavior I hope.

But anyway, we have derailed my thread enough already.
  14. NinjaTurtle

I agree, though I happen to think the guide is very good. The drama is almost Mattherson level

  15. ViXeN

Is Mattherson really that bad?
  16. NinjaTurtle

Mattherson players would have you believe it is. I had a TR alt on there a year ago when TE were still around and it was very entertaining and quite ridiculous all at the same time, though I suspect it must have calmed down a bit now

Tell me about it... LOL I have been seeing it since I was a kid and not just with me. Any really skilled female player who can outshine most of the guys and doesn't downplay their skills (basically kiss their butts) when talking to the guys, has a habit of getting targeted by certain types of guys. I have seen it so many times... Jupe, Vesta, Envee, Maxine, StarDust, Brootal, etc... Some guys just have insecurity issues I guess and feel threatened by female gamers who are good and know we are good. I mean you don't see me get mad if I get outplayed by a guy, even if he brags after he does it. I just say "good job" and use that as motivation to fix whatever mistakes I made. :D The good thing is that these guys don't really represent the majority of gamers anymore. Like I said earlier, its a fraction of the community that acts this way. But they can definitely be the most vocal, especially when they are screaming incoherently at me in games after I kill them. Yikes.

The reality is no one likes being outdone by anyone regardless of gender. You always hear about this misogynistic attitude towards girl gamers like it is something new and different and special above and beyond negative treatment, when anyone who games in a community with some degree of toxicity knows that same guy is just as likely to call a male who bested him a slurr for someone who enjoys the company of the same sex in a romantic nature. (Along with a whole bunch of other foul things)

Because the environment is so saturated with those kinds of comments, most just let it roll off their shoulders rather than making a crusade about it.

On the forums, regardless of gender if you come off bragging like you are a top tier player, but have mediocre stats to back it up, drama hounds will take a few minutes to pick you apart or stir something up. Even if you are a top tier player and brag it up, you'll still catch some flack. Look at BigIronRange (for some time) was big on mentioning how great he is and he is one of the top infantry players in planetside. A lot of those posts devolved into similar drama fests even though he could pretty much back everything up. I haven't seen anything recently like that, but he does post up videos of gameplay and pretty much lets them do the talking for him.
  19. ViXeN

Yes, you hear about it because it is a real problem (much like racism in gaming and a few other issues) regardless of whether you want to believe it or not. Trust me when I say that what you are talking about and the way we're targeted are entirely different. Yeah, I do see guys dropping the F word to describe other guys who beat them sometimes but the difference is that it will usually end there. They usually won't spent months and months flaming the guy and trying to make their gaming experience as miserable as possible. And they rarely take it nearly as far as they often do against female gamers. If you're interested, I could PM you a link to something I wrote a while ago (on another game) that you may find pretty eye-opening. I'm not going to post it here because it would just derail the thread even more.

Anyway, sure they get mad at other guys but they seem to have a special kind of hatred for female gamers who make them mad. People just need to grow up and act like reasonable adults. And I mean people in general, not just in the gaming community. :rolleyes:That is all I'm going to say about this issue on here. If you want to argue about the topic then feel free to send a PM or start another thread in off-topic.

Expected wall of text that much like your original post no one will read and you will continue to not be taken seriously.

    Good luck.
