Hahaha damnit, why did I remove "INB4- I have 6 accounts ****lord"
  2. ViXeN

Reading comprehension is your friend. I have TWO accounts and SIX characters.
  3. NoInstructions

I was quoting myself on what I had removed at the end of that post, not how many characters/accounts you actually have (the **** would I know).

I can't go any deeper down this wormhole.

Vix, I can't say I have ever seen a thread or comment of yours that wasn't a "subtle" attempt at bragging.

The guide is pretty meh. Most of it is common sense. And what's not is highly limited. Also, why the hell would you advise a new TR player to grind 1000 certs to buy the Striker?

Honestly, the only thing I see here is "Look at me guys! I'm a girl and I'm really good at video games!"

Which you will say about anything I post, regardless of what it is because you already have this double standard and preconceived view. So tell me, why haven't you said anything like that to the guy in this thread who was bragging? I find that fascinating. Apparently I am the only person in the community who isn't supposed to say anything that can even be interpreted as bragging (which I wasn't even doing in my OP) or people get upset. i also never said anything about my gender, other than calling my guide "the Queen's Infantry Guide" in my OP. Like I have said a thousand times, no one is forcing you guys to read my threads. I'm not putting a gun to your head and telling you to read them. Generally if someone posts a thread and I know its going to annoy me, I don't read it. What a crazy idea, right?

But I guess it makes more sense to read posts made by people you dislike so you guys can complain about them.

Why didn't I say anything about it? Because I'm only addressing your post and most every other post you have made in these forums. Not the replies, not your replies to their replies. Just your guide and your behavior on the forum. The guy bragging about his own skill is no less obnoxious than any of your posts. However, I can't say I seem him self inserting at every given opportunity.

There is no double standard, there is no preconceived view. Just an objective opinion based on simple observations spanning a good period of this forum's lifespan.

    Edit:
I'm not trying to insult you or anything like that. Just pointing out that your posts come off as "I'm better than everyone else! Aren't you guys jelly?" And it seems like I struck a nerve.

Well if it WAS just as obnoxious to you, one would think that you would point it out but I don't see you doing that. I only see it when it involves my posts, which I find funny. Objective my butt, If it was objective then you would be saying it to other people who do it. With me, you guys seem to feel the need to make these same posts in almost every thread I make... So don't tell me there isn't a double standard. We both know better. Anyway, I don't care what you think of me. Like I said, if you have an issue with me then act like an adult and just stop reading my threads. There are several people I really dislike on here myself but you don't see me following them around and making negative posts in all of their threads. That's just childish. And its pretty pointless considering that you guys have been doing it for over a year and I care even less now than I did back then. I'm not going to change anything I say or do. I'm not going to pretend to be someone I'm not just to make people like you happy.

I feel it is best to be more tolerant with prideful individuals and to humor them. On a strategy game called Space Trek: The New Empire, there is an individual who has declared himself as king of the game, superior to even the developers. Other players have long given up harassing him for this egocentric behavior. When one does not get on his bad side, he is a friendly and intelligent individual, and often even generous.

I don't follow you around. I don't hound you or anything. And I don't make a habit of ready EVERY SINGLE POST of yours. But usually they stick around near the top of the first page for a while, so one tends to be curious as to what the fuss is all about. And as for this guide, I was curious on how you would advise new players, since you're very confident in your own skills.

And like I said in my first post (which was my main point to begin with, which you derailed) the guide itself is very redundant and functionally useless. Not to mention it gave flat-out bad advice. A new player should NOT grind for 1000 certs to get the Phoenix or the Striker that early on. And honestly, I wouldn't even advise a player certing out a heavy assault first to begin with. The medic is generally what I have new players use. It has a good primary and a fantastic class skill: Rezzing. Plus, it's better to teach new players how to play as a team rather than trying to Rambo it up as a Heavy or Light Assault.

And no, I do not see anyone who brags nearly as much as you in their posts. Maybe some people do to some extent, but not nearly to the same degree as you. Sure, there are some people who like to post videos or tales of their exploits, that's cool. Because they are usually interesting to watch or read. Your bragging is solely for your own ego. If I did see someone else act like this, trust me, it would probably bother me enough to call it out at least once. But I don't see anyone like that, so I don't bother. I thought I made that point clear in my last post, but obviously I didn't. Since you made your whole reply about this imagined "double standard".

I agree. I respect that Vix is offering to help newbies. This game isn't all that great at teaching them the ropes and we need more players willing to help get new players going.

But when the guide comes off so confidently (which it should), yet gives such lousy advice, I had to say something.

First off all, learn to separate facts and opinions. Saying that it is bad advice is an opinion so don't state it like its a fact. Secondly, my advice was pretty good in my opinion and several other good players agreed with most of it. I posted the original general FPS guide on the MLG forums a couple years ago and got mostly positive feedback there as well. I'm probably going to post this one (after I edit out the PS2 stuff) there too and will most likely get the same response. But anyway, if people have some constructive criticisms about my guide, then I'm fine with getting the feedback. Its just pathetic that people spend more time focusing on ME than the actual content of the guide. And once again, the cert part (funny how you cherry-pick that part and ignore everything else) of this guide was written from the point of view of a Heavy Assault player and I had other HAs in mind when writing it.

All I will say to the new players is that you can listen to me (I posted my background and you can see my stats) or these guys who are dismissing my entire guide. Feel free to compare us and decide who you think is giving you the better advice. ;)

    Yeah, I can tell..........
  13. TheBlindFreak

I wasn't dismissing your entire guide. Most of it, mainly the general FPS advice, is solid (although it feels a bit like common sense, probably because I'm no stranger to FPS's) so I apologize if it seemed like I was just dismissing it all.

I did take issue to the certing portion of it. And I said so in my first comment. You chose to ignore that and focus on my opinion of you.

Also, when did I claim my opinion as fact? Are you stuck on "objective opinion"? I'll admit that was lousy word choice. But in no way does that mean I consider my opinion to be absolute truth.

"And like I said in my first post (which was my main point to begin with, which you derailed) the guide itself is very redundant and functionally useless. Not to mention it gave flat-out bad advice."

Sounds like you were generalizing my guide as a whole to me. And when you say something is bad advice, that sounds like a statement of fact to me. You should have said, that it gave bad advice in your opinion or that you didn't agree with the advice given.

" it gave flat-out bad advice".
That doesn't imply that the entire thing is bad. Just that some piece of advice within the whole was bad.

Now, who all agrees that after only earning and spending 442 certs, a new TR or NC player should grind 1000 certs for the Phoenix or Striker?

That is bad advice. The Phoenix is slightly less bad advice, but not something a new player should dump 1000 certs on before certing into other classes. The Striker is definitely bad advice. Until it gets reworked (completely different mechanics) then it is not worth the money. The Annih and the dedicated G2A rockets are a better choice. The Annih is about the same, if not more effective in more situations. Plus SC will let you unlock it on all characters. The G2A launcher can still dumbfire at infantry and vehicles, can hit air targets just as reliably as the Annih, and only costs 250 certs. The G2A launcher is a better all around option for HA's. It's cheaper, and more versatile than the other launchers.

And if it makes you feel better, I will clarify that this is still my opinion. But it is an opinion that a lot of others share. It's also based on my gameplay experience as both a vehicle hunter and a vehicle pilot.

That tip was written back before the Striker was nerfed but I still think its a better alternative than the standard ground launchers. And I believe the Phoenix is the best launcher on the game right now. It can still wipe out vehicles quickly and suppress infantry. Most of the time when we are in a long-range standoff with NC it is because of the Phoenix spam. I do think you should STILL buy the standard ground launcher though. The air launcher is questionable because dual bursters are far more effective but its only 250 so that is up to the person who is spending the certs.

Well, that is fine. You have your own opinions based on your experiences and I have mine, I'm just telling you what works well for me. You're welcome to do a guide yourself if you want. I won't come on there and bash it either if you do. I don't bash positive contributions to the community.

Well this is a long, and probably a well constructed post, but i stopped reading after the "gear up section", i felt like this would be a bit disappointing.....it was more like a blog so far than a guide.
  18. Wobberjockey

not all infiltrators are snipers though. there is a difference.

Mustarde has a blog. behind the sights or something like that. it's very informative.

as far as this being heavy assault centric: yes i noticed that. obviously heavies play differently than infiltrators.
actually my personal feeling on the subject is that if you want to get really good at CQC you play infiltrator to learn. since you have less health, and inferior weaponry (barring the SMG) success has to come through good tactics, positioning, and timing - aspects that can be applied to all classes. getting the hang of hitting people in the head reliably doesn't hurt either. it's like aim booster with better graphics :p

RE: the NV scope. again, i see it as a crutch. when using it you can't see the distortion from nearby infiltrators, and you can't visually identify friend from foe - a problem if you have been EMP'd. there is also a 1/4 second where you are 'blind' when the scope 'boots up'. and that is something that bothers me personally, and can lead to losing targets if you aren't getting the frames you should be.

now i'm not saying it isn't good or that it doesn't provide an advantage, but it is something that i feel should not be relied upon as it can build poor habits that will get you killed

Lets not pretend why we come here, this is our version of trashy reality shows only we get to take part in the train wreck.

    How great is that!?

ViXen, while your aim might have been to help newer players, as an experienced gamer you should also know they aren't likely to go to the forums and read some random guide in general discussion that is basically a wall of text. Beyond that, you have a firmly established reputation on the forums and it generally isn't one that is seen in a positive light. There is nothing wrong with that as I've said to you before, but until it changes (if you even want it to change) this is what most of the threads will devolve into.

Take a look at Mustarde and Wrel, they are two guys who do a huge amount for the new community of planetside, to the point where when new players ask questions, many people (who have no association with either player) will link them to their videos in order to help them out. They offer solid, short, objective advice on a medium that is entertaining that offers gameplay highlights as well as specific practices put into action. This video is probably one of my favorites as far as a guide goes :

These guys manage to put out useful, interesting, and entertaining information to the public with the only preface being "They are big fans of Planetside 2" and have "Put many hours into the game" They don't need to itemize their list of accomplishments dating back to little league trophies they have stored in their basement to get people to listen.

If you are a good player, your name will carry its own weight without the need for self lauding. :)
