Sorry about the repeated posts. It kept telling me the server timed out and my post hadn't gone through, when obviously it had. Oh well, it just proves how persistant I am. :) (Or OCD. It took me 15 mins of effort to get back here and type this apology.)

    It's called "pieing corners":

As an extension: Join an outfit.

Spend time in VR practicing very basic things like sticking together, moving together and firing together.
There's no time to figure these out in combat, and it has to be practiced or the team is not a team but a group of individuals.

Disagree. While I run a squad probably 270-300 days per year, I still make mistakes and if someone in the squad doesn't speak up we get spanked.

The proper way is to receive the instruction, figure out what the SL or PL wants, figure out if it makes sense.
    If yes, follow.
    If not, speak up.
If you don't know, ask for a clarification.

For the plan to work, everyone needs to know what they're doing and why.

Always call them out in squad chat as well, giving their direction and location.

    "Spotted an enemy Magrider"
    vs.
"There's a Magrider, NE, cresting the hill".

The difference between the two is half a sentence worth of text.

In the first case, everyone within 150 meters will start looking for the tank (or plain ignore it, filtering it out with all the other voice call outs).

    In the second case, however....
Everyone with a view of the hill NE will see the thing instantly, no matter which way they were facing earlier, while those without a view will know where to go to see it (or if they're doing something else - they'll know if they're safe or not).
The guys 300 meters away will also know where that thing is, so they can drive (or fly) up to it and engage.

Bonus points for letting the team member at most danger know (and call out his/her username), and giving the enemy's location relative to that person.

"Spotted an enemy Light Assault Trooper"
    vs.
"Vixen, LA on your left, rooftop"

Lies, pay no attention to this good advice! Don't make our headshots more difficult. We snipers need certs too, ya know. :(

That's why I find the SKEP more versatile, it has a bigger blast radius then the other ones.

Great guide, but that aimbooster thing scared my cat :/

I feel compelled to strongly disagree with the title of the third chapter in this guide.

Hail to the queen then.:) Nice that you share your tricks but since i dont at this age play hardcore because im lazy and saw all the ugly sides of competitive gaming years ago ill keep on playing half lights and settle to what it gives me.

Hope you can continue to appreciate the competitive gaming even if i couldnt and wish you all the best with it. And really thanks for the advice im surely going to try some of it.:p

So ill keep dieing like Penguin and get the job done thats much more important to me anyway.

The Grounder (TR), Hawk (NC) & Nemesis (VS) are the most versatile rocket launchers in the game, and at 250 certs they should be one of your early purchases for your HA. You trade 135 direct damage and some splash for a dumb fire launcher with a better sight than the default and the ability to lock on to aircraft. You could carry these launchers in any load out and not feel like you are missing out.

Terrific thread! It has many helpful points for experienced players as well. I have never tried that corner trick.

You know you get good when you are in a really big fight with actual Outfit squads defending a Point and you just slip past them with out much effort and 10 seconds later the enemy squadleader asks you "how the F*** did you get there?"

Thanks I love the guide, but did you really say you were top rank on counterstrike servers >.<?

There's just one problem that undermines a huge portion of this guide:

Planetside 2's infantry combat is so piss-poor it doesn't reward accuracy, it rewards bullet spam.

The shields on players you have to break through first just to get to their health is bad enough, but the game makes it even worse by not having stable/powerful enough servers to register hit detection properly. Therefore, PS2 plays like the Halo games - who fires more bullets is almost always the victor.

None of this guide helped me with the abysmal hit-detection present in PS2 :(

I'm going to keep farming from my Harasser until the ground combat is worth my time.

Surely someone who invested as much time in FPS as OP finds the hit-detection in PS2 lacking...

Should I have used the word "constantly" instead of saying "so much?"

Well, I covered those when I talked about calling out enemy locations in my guide. You need to mark them and call them out. Pieing? That is the first time I have heard anyone call it that but we're definitely talking about the same thing.

Counterstrike Source, technically. I only played CS about a year before Source came out and then I moved over to that. I still played the original sometimes but most of my friends played CSS so I stayed with that mostly. But yeah, I was #1 on two different servers. I was at the top like 4 straight months on the old 24/7 Office IllSkillz server. :D My shotgun and AK were feared.

I don't think the hit-detection is quite that bad. Its really no worse than a lot of other games I have played. Its not game-breaking or anything.
