Something like this, please. Planetside 2 currently has no direction in the least bit. It's irritating. Even the method that PS1 used - sanctuaries - would be nice.

I also wouldn't mind seeing it be harder to deploy somewhere, so that galaxies have more meaning. In PS1, the sanctuaries would be full of people wanting to hop into galaxies to get to their destinations.

I'm a big fan of that second map, especially the dead cities zone. The advantage of having 2 strike points into enemy territory is also very nice. I'd assume with that map you'd move the current cont lock benefits to the three new neutral conts and have different types of benefits for holding your own cont/locking an enemy empire into their warpgate?

Yes 2001! Thank you, I don't know why I put down 2003. I think it's because ToA expansion came out in 2003 and many thought it ruined the game lol :)

Thanks for the correction, 11 year old game, yet still to many the best realm vs realm game ever created. Too bad Mark Jacobs sold out to EA, went with a big budget title instead of creating what Mythic fanbase wanted...which was a DAOC 2. Sad that we'll never see it happen.

I really hope they consider this idea sooner rather then later.

I miss games where tactical combat was more important than meatgrinders. That's all we have atm. No incentive to hold a position, no incentive to defend most places, and no reason to not follow the zerg.

So before anything else of any type (even the map) we need incentives to actually put up a defense. A new map would make no point if there is no incentive to hold the warp gates between continents. Less if the only incentive to go to a warpgate is like in planetside 1's folly.

As much as i would like ot see the 90/5/5 map populutions be fixed, this would be bad.
As you would almost never get to fight in some of the awesome areas and worlds created by the game.

I think just basic % cap per a map would do.
After 45% of one race, block others from joining.
    Problem solved.

Continents connected via warp-gates is something the devs have planned and have been working on from the get go. The current terminal system was always ment to be temporarily until we have ~6 continents up (this was said by a dev in the forums when esimiar first launched in closed beta, but the quote is long gone now due to the forum wipe).

The only reason it isn't in the game right now is because we only have 3 continents. The devs decided that such a system right now will turn into a home gate camp fest. Personally I think it was supremely stupid to go outta beta without this system in place as it is such a major game-play element.

It is coming pretty much exactly as pictured. Just hold your ding dang horses.

I really have to say that I would throw money at the screen for the second Idea. I hope the devs get a peek at this thread because as I see it now the game is on the fast track to death a la TORtanic and pretty much every other big launch MMO we've seen over the past five years. Too much time and effort has been put into this on the end of the devs to have it crumble in a year
  9. evansra

they have said many times they are working on this but as it stands with 3 conts and the resource system it cant work yet... one day my friends, one day :)
  10. SkizzWS

I Just feel like they should have maybe spent another month in beta to roll this system out for launch because it significantly changes gameplay
  11. Fanaticalist

Yeah, there is something lacking in the game. The two things I can identify are 1.) difficulty finding really intense battles and 2.) a reason to care about gaining or losing territory.

I think that DAoC's frontier system at least provided a bit of the feeling that the enemy is infringing on "our turf". There is little meaning to losing or winning a base. Essentially, this entire war is pointless. I don't think that's how they want players to feel about the ebb and flow of the war (unless they're making a statement o_O).

A system that encourages players to personally invest in gaining or defending territory is very much desired. Hopefully that would help increase the intensity of these battles as well. As it stands now, there seems little reason to defend a location that has come under attack from the zerg. Just respawn elsewhere and try again to find a good fight.

I think that the map proposed would be an improvement. I don't think it would resolve all the problems, but it would be better.
  12. evansra

yeah they explained on somthing a watched that they had to *rush* release because they could not impliment servers all over the world and give true stress testing in beta so it was holding them back. also to make it work they need 3-7 more continents and that will prob take over a year to make... just focus on the potential, it will get better just like ps1 did. some ppl seem to think ps1 was released in the state it is today and from my experience it rly wasnt :p
  13. SkizzWS

And I can understand that and am behind it, my only concern is that the majority of the mouthbreathing playerbase using their mom's Dell computer to run the game doesn't have the attention span required to support that kind of long term change. There's really nothing at this point keeping them playing this game over the next sub-yearly release of CallofModernShooter Battledeath: Explosion
  14. PeanutMF

With this design the devs could also make each faction's "home warpgate" a lot more stylised and detailed towards that faction so that it might give the players a pseudo-sanctuary feel as well.

Without the whole sanctuary thing that Smedley is afraid of doing to boot.

yeah true, hopfully we can convert some of them :) i an odd sorta way tho they kinda live for the pointless combat with no goal beyond the odd kill streak neways. IMO pleasing ppl like that is where this game has failed itself. but on the other hand they need them to keep it proffitable. its a tricky mess they have to deal with the devs :p
i take off my hat to them, i would not want to try.
  16. SkizzWS

I would love to see mines/mining equipment and stockpiled supplies at the NC warpgate, factories, industry and a highly developed landscape in the TR gate, and general wacky alien ****ery scattered around the VS'.

    Think bigger!

SOE already said they were looking to make the lore evolve rather than just being a static back-story. This means changing some maps as well as adding new ones.

Some archaeology expedition (or just a random explosion) awakens the ancient Vanu tech that is controlling the weather. We get storms, we get floods, the seabed on Indar turns into sea with islands, the rivers on Esamir melt, and we get ports and naval warfare and beach landings.

Controlling a warpgate means locking down the gate at your end then moving overland to claim the other end. They have to do the same to regain it - go overland to re-establish the link!

SOE devs are lauging at threads like this.
They could fix the game but... SPINNING RIMS THE GAME IS SAVED TAKE ALL MY MONEY

This will only result in positive effects on planetside, so the devs will ignore it

Heavily heavily agree with OP - Not entirely but i do agree we need metagame changes in ps2.. Hope the devs act on these issues
