A lot of people here are stuck in their own belief that PS2 is doomed. They seem to consider DBG the same way they did SOE, sometimes even blaming DBG for SOE's mistakes or downfalls.

While they have done a few things that disappointed me, I really do think they are working for the good of the game. They saw that the greatest issue in PS2 was the lack of metagame, objectives, and have taken drastic steps to fix that. They have looked to PS1 for inspiration. They listen to player feedback.

I for one, am quite confident that DBG will really help PS2 soar. Now if only they would start advertising...

I'm frankly very glad they haven't started advertising yet. If they advertise now, it'll just drive players away. People will try the game and decide they don't like it because of a lot of issues regarding balance and new player experience. These issues, though, will likely be resolved soon. We should wait until they are resolved and new features come out to start advertising so that we can retain new players better.

Exactly! The game should remain "under the radar" as long as there are major issues with the new player experience and as well as the new features weren't added. And we also will need a major content update. Then the game could be "relaunched".

But I can not really agree with the OP. They certainly did a lot, but Smedley and Higby also did a lot. Performance for one.

And I still like to refer to DBG as SOE, since it is the same company... At least it appears so for me.

VP system without ANT's kinda actually made things worse (return to Indarside)

ANT system + Indar revamp should help that a LOT however.

New player experience is a tricky bag though... they need some sort of built in, hand held mentor system to get new players to team up with vets who will help show them a better experience. Tutorials and videos simply won't work when too many people have too short an attention span and just want to get into the action. The only way an automated system could work is if it sort of taught you in the game as you played, using the mission system, but more explanative of objectives your first couple times being assigned them (eg; a mission to take out a gen, with an explanation that taking down this gen with the tank on the shield icon will bring down the gate shields allowing armor support to support in the courtyard and push harder on the objective)

They certainly do appear to be quite incredibly amazing atm.

So when exactly do those six months start and end because a lot of the things you listed only just hit the test server now....

I don't think it's ready for a huge advertising push quite yet. When they get the changes from the PTS in, finish the resource system and (maybe) do a smaller-scale OMFG 2, then we might be talking.

Many of the improvements could easily have been planned and designed while Higby/Smedley were still working at the company.

It does seem like development speed have picked up considerably though - perhaps SOE/DB was too bloated or bureaucratic before? Who knows.

    thats true
i think its the case that both teams were/are working on it, it May not be the specific thing we want/think is The thing, but its clear improvements were made then and are being made now.

Outfits used to do this until lattice made zergfits the only type of outfit... hopefully these updates take some linear gameplay out of the lattice system.

You know that was a bug of the Striker, right? lol
  14. Pikachu

Wut it was? I thought it was a feature to allow some damage to not be countered.
  15. Ronin Oni

    ?? lol yeah.

Dude that thing was craaaaazy broken. Only first rocket fired when fired at max RoF would get flared, and then it even passed through terrain.
  16. Blippy

Strikers were ultra bugged where flares would only negate the first rocket, and the rockets flew through all terrain, making them impossible to avoid. Both were eventually fixed, but not before TR abused the **** out of it.

As far as we are going, it's still too slow, but VERY impressive for the team we have now, we actually see lots of progress. However, the learning curve is WAY too high, like other players said, the Devs need more examples for better combat and blow that learning curve to OBLIVION! Until then, there is no way advertising will help, we have to wait and see as the game progresses in updates.

The Striker suffered from a series of continues bugs all through out its lock on incarnation. Its these bugs that made people think it was OP. If the Striker performed as it was supposed to, it would have been virtually identical to the swarm without the selective fire modes. The Striker was never OP in of itself at any stage really. Hence why it became useless after they nerfed it then fixed the bugs.
  19. Benton582

Smed and Higs didn't seem to do alot, since we only seen VERY little content updates, and unnoticeable content updates, Hossin was a flop, and the Valk pretty much a flop, but has a CRAPLOAD of potential. Seriously! It can be used as a AI DROPSHIP instead of being nearly useless and broken at the same time. Devs are planning a LOBBY! THIS IS CONFIRMED IN THE LAST Q&A with Smeds. This can be a perfect dropship!
  20. Dethonlegs

Sure they have done a bit and have plans for more, but what really disappoints is their lack of action on underused items. There is an incredible variety of options for all infantry and vehicles that are available right now, but most are so useless they may as well not be in the game.

Then there is the problem of items in the game nurfed so heavily that they never see the light of day again - in the case of some items, effectivly stopping entire styles of gameplay.

And then we have empire specific items performing so much better than their competitors that it's nothing short of unfair.

I could provide examples for each but i'm sure it's obvious to everyone what i'm talking about.

How difficult is it to look at the numbers month by month and adjust accordingly? Do this and THEN i'll say they are doing well.
