    Chapter 1-Introduction
Welcome to the Combat Engineer Class Guide for Planetside 2! This guide will show you around the Combat Engineer Class and hopefully allow you to improve your skills as a Combat Engineer. I will be going through different things about this support class in the next few chapters. To be able to run as this class, you would need to equip it via an equipment terminal and press E by default (Shown Below). Select the Engineer Class and click equip to switch into the Engineer Class (Shown Below).

    Chapter 2-Choosing Your Allegiance
Before even starting to play Planetside 2 and the Engineer Class, you should be able to choose a side in this everlasting war. Planetside 2 has 3 factions/empires which has its own traits. These 3 factions/empires are The Vanu Sovereignty, The New Conglomerate and The Terran Republic.
    ~The Vanu Sovereignty
The Vanu Sovereignty abbreviated as VS by the players of Planetside 2, are a technological based faction aimed at using technology from the alien artifacts mainly named as Vanu. They treat the Vanu as a religion and strive to find other Vanu Artifacts that are scattered around Auraxis. They live by the motto of We are Tomorrow and their colours are Purple and Cyan. The VS are mainly made up of scientists and fans of the man who found the first artifact, Briggs. The VS use beams of lasers and have low to no recoil on their weapons. Bullets (Or lasers to be accurate) are colored as Purple and have no bullet drop (Except for their bolt actions). Their vehicles are very maneuverable on both land and air. If you are somewhat an intellectual, likes technology, no bullet drop, techno music, the VS are your Faction
    ~The New Conglomerate
The New Conglomerate are a separatist faction, abbreviated as the NC, which splited from the Terran Republic after some time after survivors landed in Auraxis. The New Conglomerate aims towards providing freedom for Auraxians. Their motto is Fight for the future and their colours are blue and gold. The NC are made up of mainly freedom fighters. Their bullets are coloured as Gold and are subjected to bullet drop. Their vehicles move slower but are more heavily armoured and their damage output is higher than other factions. If you like the idea of freedom, hard hitting weaponary and vehicles and Rock music, the NC are your faction
    ~The Terran Republic
The Terran republic are the original government that ruled old Earth and its citizens but once war broke out, the Terran Republic will stop at nothing to bring peace even if it meant by using force. The Terran republic are abbreviated as the TR and their motto is Loyalty Until Death (Although you never die in Auraxis ;) ) They can be identified by their colours which are red and black. Their bullets are coloured as Red and are also subjected to bullet drop as the NC. Their vehicles and Weaponary are fast firing but have the standard damage output of a bullet unlike the NC. Their weapons however have bigger magazine sizes allowing for what the Planetside Community calls; Bullet Hosing. If you like the idea of government control, fast firing weapons and vehicles, opera styled music, The TR is your faction.

Chapter 3-Your role as a Combat Engineer
The combat engineer is a class which helps to keep frontline troops well equipped, vehicles and MAX’s operational and also helps to keep up the battle wherever it may be on Auraxis. A combat Engineer is given tools for him to utilize and are all given to him by default for free:
    1. Default main weapon for the Engineer
    2. Standard Faction specific pistol available to all classes of the faction
    3. Nano Armour Kit (Repair tool)
    4. Empire Specific Knife (Same damage output. Just a redesign)
    5. Ammo Pack
    6. A.C.E Tool
    7. Standard Faction specific Frag Grenade (Same damage output. Just a redesign)
You will need to use most of this tools provided to you by your faction to support your fight in Auraxis. I will now go through what each of these tools is used for in a combat scenario:
    1. Default Main Weapon for the engineer:
You are given an empire specific weapon as default for free to defend yourself against enemy infantry (NOT allies). You are able to wield this weapon by pressing the number 1 or scrolling through your mouse wheel to scroll through your inventory. You are expected to wield this weapon at ALL times as it will be the first tool to defend yourself.
    2. Standard Faction Specific pistol
You are given an Empire Specific Pistol as a default secondary defence weapon for free. This is mainly used as a backup for your Main weapon to get that kill after pouring a full magazine into an enemy and him not being able to die. You are able to wield this weapon by pressing the number 2 or scrolling your mouse wheel to scroll through your inventory. This weapon can be wielded by choice.
    3. Nano Armour Kit
This is the standard default repair tool given to the Combat Engineer to allow him/her to repair allied vehicles, artillery and MAX’s when they are damaged during and after battle. You can wield this tool by pressing 3. To repair things such as a MAX, point the repair gun and left click to start the repair process. A repair visual should show up to show the progress of repair. Once the repair visual is fully glowing, you are done repairing. The Nano Armour Kit will overheat eventually after a period of time and you will have to wait until it cools down. To look at the overheating status of the weapon, look at the overheating visual that is shown at the bottom right which will turn to red once full (NOT to be confused with shield and health bars). Once overheated, you will have to wait for a period of time before you are able to use it again.
    4. Empire Specific Knife
The Empire Specific Knife is given to you by default for free. This is your 3rd defence weapon in your arsenal and can be used to silently finish of an enemy or when both primary and secondary weapons have been fully cycled through (I do not know how or why both weapons have been used up. Try improving your aim in the Virtual Reality Training ;) ) You are able to use this knife by pressing the T key on your keyboard or your middle mouse button.

    5. Ammo Pack
This is given to you by default for easy access but I advise you to remove this from your Loadout immediately and look at the A.C.E Tool section. The Ammo Pack can be wielded by pressing 4 by default.
    6. A.C.E Tool
The A.C.E Tool is the Combat Engineer’s, what I call, Goodie bag (call it whatever you want ;) ) This tool is able to allow you to spawn ammo boxes and MANA Turrets (Covered after this) The A.C.E tool can be wielded by pressing 5 by default (After removing the ammo pack, it should be 4 automatically) . You are able to switch between an ammo box and a MANA Turret by switching fire modes while wielding it (‘B’ is binded to your keyboard by default). The Ammo pack will supply ammo to your allies (and enemies but this will not give you EXP) and allow you to gain EXP (Experience Points) while the MANA Turret will be covered after this. After making your mind up between the two, you will either see an ammo pack visual (A box on the floor) or a MANA Turret visual (A turret visual) of either red or green. Green will represent that it can be deployed while red restricts you from deploying it (Try moving around until it turns green). After deploying, the A.C.E tool will need to cool down and will not be able to accessed for a few seconds.

    The MANA Turret
There are 2 MANA Turrets available to only the Combat Engineer. An Anti-Infantry (AI) or an Anti-Vehicle (AV) turret. The AI MANA Turret is given to you by default and can be accessed by the A.C.E Tool while the AV MANA Turret will have to be purchased with certs. The AI MANA Turret is capable of hurting infantry after entering the turret by pressing ‘E’ when close-by (You cannot enter another engineer’s turret). The AV MANA Turret is capable of damaging vehicles of all types and even aircraft (If you’re lucky ;) ). The AV MANA Turret doesn’t have a shield in front of it like the AI MANA Turret though.
    7. Standard Faction Specific Grenade
This is given to you by default as any normal grenade does although this cost resources to equip. The grenades deal a decent damage to enemies and maybe even your allies (So watch how and where you’re throwing your grenade!). This can be thrown by pressing ‘G’ be default.

So after going through the tools given to you, I will now explain how to use these tools in the Battlefields of Auraxis. You are to use the repair tool to heal MAX’s and any kind of armour. Try looking out for a repair icon around you or on the minimap to spot who needs your assistance with your repair tool. You will need to use the Ammo packs to resupply your fellow allies in the Battlefield and try placing ammo packs from time to time and usually on the frontlines. Try looking out for the ammo icon above an ally’s character and place it nearby mainly behind safe areas such as trees or buildings to cover him/her from being picked off by snipers.

    Chapter 5-Weapon Overview
Personally, I believe that the standard weapons given are good all-rounders but the Engineer has abilities which can take advantage of the Engineer’s ability to resupply. These weapons have mainly an S at the back of their weapon name. The Gauss Compact S (NC), TRAC-5 S (TR), Solstice SF (VS). The weapon is a mainly medium ranged weapon but has diverse abilities available. It has 4 fire modes, Automatic, 3x Burst and Semi-Automatic which can be cycled through with ‘B’ by default. Each of this weapons cost 500 certs (125000EXP) to unlock or 700 Station Cash ($7). The other weapons in my opinion are not that important to unlock but if you do have spare certifications, I recommend this weapons because I feel they are quite good in the battlefield:
    1. - NS Underboss (1000Certs) (Not recommended for TR as they have an amazing default pistol)
    2. -GD-7F (1000Certs) (Not totally recommended but worth a try if you have spare certs)
    3. -LC3 Jaguar (250 Certs)
    4. -Serpent VE92 (250Certs)

    ===================================================================
    Chapter 6-Attachment Overview
There are many attachments available to the Engineer and these are either optics or gun attachments.
    ~Optics:
There are multiple optics available to the Engineer and are ranging from x1 to specialized scopes. In my opinion, the x2 and HS/NV Sights are a must have for your gun unless you like the stock optics and do not want to waste 30certs for a scope. As an engineer, you will be mainly facing enemies of mainly medium range. With a x2 scope, you are able to see your enemy easier from a medium distance and the HS/NV scope will help you pick out enemies at night and look past smoke. Long range engagements is not advised while in close combat you can either try hip-firing If the enemy is quite close to you or try using your scope if he isn’t close enough to hip-fire.
    ~Handling based attachments
There are a variety of attachments available to you to configure your weapon to suit your needs which is mainly recoil. I advise getting a basic forward grip and if you think you need more handling, get the advanced forward grip. The compensator is also recommended. Getting a suppressor is a good idea if you are going to be around the enemy lines to plant AV Mines and Deploying AV MANA Turrets or even doing some recon, it will help you to not show up on the minimap if you fire your main weapon.
    ~Other available attachments
The underbarrel grenade launcher is the most recommended attachment for the combat engineer class once purchasing a weapon with an ‘s’ such as the Gauss Compact S. The underbarrel grenade launcher will shoot out a grenade or a smoke grenade which you, as a combat engineer is able to resupply from your own ammo packs. This is important as your underbarrel grenade launcher only has 2 grenades and 1 in a magazine. Without an ammo pack, you can only use 2 grenades. Try getting the underbarrel grenade launcher immediately after purchasing the ‘S’ Series gun for you character. (100certs+250certs=350 certs for this combo).

    Chapter 7-Tips and Tricks
This tips and tricks that are stated below are made mainly from the Planetside 2 Community to help you be an effective Combat Engineer
-Place ammo packs from time to time. You wouldn’t know how much of a help it can give to a fellow teammate!
-Place ammo packs near Anti Air Maxes (Burster Maxes) as they will usually run out of ammo faster than I can put my earpieces on
-The Ace tool is actually an AMMO PACK! Hold the ACE Tool and click B. You will see that the turret visual turned into an ammo pack visual which is able to be deployed. WOW!
-Mana Turrets can act as mobile cover for teammates and obstructions to help block or filter enemy infantry. That’s quite a tactic!
-Help repair vehicles nearby even if it is being repaired by another engineer. It isn’t always bad to help out a fellow teammate!
-Repairing maxes are usually top priority so look out for them from time to time and maybe even follow them around. They'll appreciate the help!
-Jump and always move around while repairing! You'll never know if an infantry or a sneaky Vanu will come to blow your head up!
-Keeping your armor and Maxes constantly repaired will usually help out a lot with the war against your enemy factions!
-Deployed sunderers are also top priority. Repair it first before the Max or you won’t be able to spawn next time!
-If you hear other people saying "I need repairs!" or "I think im broken!" Look around! There should be a vehicle or a max (Mainly Maxes) that needs your help with your trusty Nanites!
-If you hear "I need Ammo!" drop some ammo to allow the person to be able to resupply quickly. Mainly behind cover of course!
-Drop ammo packs near control points to help the defenders (Your faction not the enemies!) to be able to keep up the battle
-Check the HP Levels of Maxes or Vehicles to help in repairs even if they don’t request it. Be a good fellow Auraxian!
-If you know where the attackers are attacking next and you're the defender, before the earlier fight ends, respawn and spawn at the next possible base target of the enemy and set up defences there. You’ll never know if sneaky tanks have already blown up the turrets close by. Try setting up AV Mines on the most possible road for the enemy to drive past. You'll never know if your mines actually turned the tide of battle if the enemy's only sundy got blowned up by YOUR AV Mines!
-Never always camp in your turret and occasionally exit your turret and look around if you see anyone needing your assistance
-Be sure to place an Ammo Pack behind your turret before you use your turret as it would be easier for allies to resupply without requesting it from you
-Ammo packs can actually be accessed on top and bottom floors when maxed out

Chapter 8-What YOU can do to help a Combat Engineer
Sometimes, you as a player will sometimes switch classes and play them for quite a while. I will show you some tips you can follow to help you and combat engineers be more effective in both your roles.
-If you are a MAX and an engineer is repairing you, don’t look at him! Just continue walking around and shooting enemies like you’re supposed to.
-If you are asking for ammo, you can use the voice commands by pressing V and pressing Request Ammo button. You can also use the quick menu by looking at the person of interest (The engineer in this case) and press and hold Q until a visual pops up. This is your quick menu. Use your mouse to navigate through the small list of options and click request ammo. He should receive a message about you requesting ammo.
-Try to protect your engineer if you are a MAX

About Me: (If you are interested in who I am that is)
My name is Firdaus (Call me Furrydaus as usual). Although I do not like telling some things in a forum, I believe that you guys won’t do anything foolish with it. I’m a 14 year old and I’m a proud Singaporean who has played many games from the old age games such as PacMan (Still love this game!) to what I currently play, Planetside 2. After being invited by a friend to join this game, I came in love with the game and Forumside ;) . My In-Game Information can be found in my signature but I’m not quite good as I really love playing combat medic almost everytime I play Planetside 2 and risking my K/D. (In my opinion, K/D isn’t that important and that we do help the battles in one way or another) I have a Youtube Channel [http://www.youtube.com/firrygaming] and a Twitter Account [@furrydaus]. Other than that, I support the NC but do play on other factions for a taste of how it feels to be another faction.

  14. iDestroya

Very nice guide. I have to comment that I don't see people use the grenade launcher anymore. I hear it's been nerfed.
  15. Furrydaus

Thanks for the compliments! A suprise to see someone reading an old guide of mine ;)
Anyways, the Grenade Launcher was nerfed but its potential to bring hell to the enemy forces is still a force to be reckoned with.
  16. Faction3

In one of those videos, that "Camikaze" guy had a Grenade Launcher attachment to his weapon! How the hell does an Engineer get that?

I'm still pretty new to the game, so that'll be the first thing I aim for with my Certs!

EDIT: Nevermind! Found it by reading.....yeah....
