The Battle Rifles are Beyond Worthless (and are also broken)

Okay, so I like semi-automatic weapons. I like my marksman weapons, my EBRs, my scout rifles, whatever you want to call them. So I see that the TR has the AMR-66 and think "sweet, now my engy can get an EBR!"
So I shell out some spare SC for it, aaaaaand it sucks.
The range is fine, the accuracy is fine, the damage is beyond pathetic. It takes 3 square headshots, or 5+ regular shots to kill anything. Its meant to be a battle rifle, not a nerf blaster.
I notice that there is barely any horizontal recoil, but the vertical recoil is quite ferocious. Makes sense, its supposed to be firing a "high-power" cartridge. So I save up 150 certs (sweet jesus) to get a compensator, thinking that if the vertical recoil is pretty much gone, I can get more shots on target faster. Maybe, this is the attachment that makes the AMR-66 make sense?
HAH, no. The compensator doesnt reduce the recoil at all. As in literally not at all, it has no effect. Actually, thats a lie, the recoil now tends slightly to the right, where as before it was straight up. 150 certs to make the recoil WORSE than it was before.
When the damn SHOTGUNS (with slugs) have better damage at range than the battle rifles, you know someone, somewhere, has dun goofed.

For the love of GOD, DO NOT BUY ANY BATTLE RIFLES!

Don't buy or cert anything without going to the virtual training area to test if the attachments or weapons are even worthwhile. Also 150 certs or 100? Some compensators and grips have zero effects on some weapons. Shoot them on the test dummy and see the rise and spread with different fire rates. Also note that the muzzle brake (compensators) that help vertical make you stand out like a sore thumb on the mini map.

Compensator and forward grips only affect sustained fire (I beleive) so they don't affect single shot type weapons. They said a long time ago that BR's would get some love. Still waiting for it.

Battle Rifles are pretty much useless. I have the Piston w/ Slugs and it's more effective at range than the Warden. There's actually no reason for me to use the Warden over the Guass Saw either, since the Saw has less recoil and the same damage. That's right, the Saw actually has less recoil than a battle rifle.

It has nothing to do with other guns being too good, it simply has to do with the battle rifles being horrible. They have high TTK with high up-right recoil and horrible hip-fire, making them bad at every single range.

Grips and compensators do absolutely nothing. Actually that's false, the compensator does make you appear from further away on the radar.
  6. Vikarius

Battle rifles are better off then scout rifles, luckily the devs recently said both are getting buffed
  7. Phyr

Yeah, on semi-autos they do nothing, since they don't have sustained fire (full auto).

    How recent?
  8. Jaes

If I remember correctly, GU7 or GU8 they're getting some loving
  9. Rhyl

They're getting buffed in GU07. So pretty recent.
  10. Ripshaft

I don't believe they've said when they plan to do it, only that they're definitely planning to buff them, it was a post on reddit made within the last week I think. Higby replied first, then one of the weapon design people came to explain a bit more.

Edit: 2 days ago, due for next GU apparently

    Nononono.

The grip and compensator literally have no effect on accuracy in any way. The entire thing is the placebo effect. I see people giving advice like "The Guass Saw is innacurate, but just toss a grip and compensator on and you'll do fine. Works for me".

If you test it, there's literally no difference. Even with advanced grip + compensator, literally no difference. If it doesn't work on NC weapons (which are what I've tested and which have the most recoil), then I don't see them working on VS/TR weapons at all.
  12. Maximum_Noob

I think the BR's could use a buff, but even if they don't get one I'm happy with my eidolon. Even in close quarters I tend to survive most encounters with my shield depleted but health intact.
There is a learning curve to the BR's but once you master them they can prove very devastating.
    Patience, position and perseverance.
  13. Phyr

I'm pretty sure there's actual data proving they effect weapons. How much they effect them is still debated. I saw noticeable improvement on the SAW with 2x foregrip and compensator, and no it wasn't placebo.
  14. FateJH

They actually do affect the weapons, but not in the way you actually expect them to. In the case of the Compensator (since the Foregrip is for horizontal recoil and, as you noted, the stock Battle Rifle has little of that), it actually decreases the amount of time it takes to recenter the weapon. By "recenter," I mean the time it takes for normal vertical recoil, i.e., muzzle rise, to be countered and the reticle to return to the original target (distorted, of course, if you drag your cursor to force-compensate for muzzle rise).

At least in the case of semi-automatics, it doesn't change the basic recoil pattern at all, for the reason that the first bullet - that is, the only shot that will be fired - is always precalculated to hit where you intended it to go.
  15. Xebov

So we will finaly get a Buff to make this weapons usefull. Cant wait to see the results.

    Man, this thread is old.

You almost had me there. Good joke.

Yeah, this thread was made only a month after release.
  18. FreelancePanic

    Woah, epic necro...

Anyway, they really need to consider reducing CoF on the battle rifles as well, since a shotgun with slugs (and carbines etc.) has the same CoF.
  19. Phyr

Old thread or not, BR's are getting tweaks in a couple weeks, making it relevant. I really hope scout rifles get class restriction removed (except maybe LA).
  20. FateJH

Considering Scout Rifles are typically bolt-action carbines, LAs would have no reason to not be allowed access to them. It's already a weapon of the "same type" as their default.
As I see it, for consistentcy sake, at least, LAs, Engineers, and Infiltrators should get the Scout Rifle; and, Medics and HAs get the Battle Rifle.
