I’ve been playing PS2 for a while now. We’ve all dealt with team damage/killing. Enough is enough. The fact that any faction can be double-teamed or out-popped during battle is enough to worry about. Adding in careless players or players trolling by TK’ing you are beyond aggravating and makes me want to quit playing the game. Too often I’ve been in 1v1 duels and some over-zealous ****** on my team decides not only are they going to kill my target, but they are going to kill me in the process. OR some ****-face decides he’s going to c4 the spawn room because he’s being farmed by the enemy in a biolab team-killing 30 other players. Team Damage should be removed all together or made so that ANY weapon regardless of where the person was hit (head, chest, legs, etc.) only does 1 damage to teammates, and after a person accumulates 500 shots/grief points on a player their weapons get locked for 3 days, their nanites should be reduced per hit, and experience decreased by 100,000xp. 500 hit points because it takes 500 damage to break a player’s shield or kill if shields are broken. By the time a player accumulates 500 hits team damage and the intent to kill your own faction is evident and should be punished harshly. This change if made will make accidental damage to teammates less lethal allowing the person dealing the damage to correct themselves. Additionally, Grief points should be made visable to the player on the leader/scoreboard so the player can track exactly how many times they've dealt damage to their teammates.
Personally, I noticed some purposeful TK where the player was clearly not auto-kicked even after doing over 4 TK in a row. I presume there is an auto-kick (temporary ban), but it might require some tweaking. Points I agree with : Make team damage something visible on public scoreboard / embarrassing ; Like in some games, reduce "friendly" damage (not too much, but enough to reduce the occurrences or probabilities of actual kills).
I dislike any sort of friendly fire. I go out of my way to avoid it and take the time to apologize when it happens. However the concept of "1 vs 1 duels" or "my target" in the giant sandbox of PS2 seems out of place.
theres no reason tking should be ingame seems stupid to put it ingame. its not like theres a point to kill teamates.
Vordrakis has a good point of when it can be useful, however this most likely doesn't belong on a bug report forum. I would recommend taking it to a social platform. The issue isn't a bug, it is being annoyed by your 'teammate' which sucks haha. We've all had it happen, but it is not a bug.
So, 2,000 hours into this game as of now, and PS1 Vet myself - I have always complained about this subject going back to planetside 1 in 2003 - They have never made a change to this system like the flock of new players coming to the game have never understood this features prevelance in the series. The game itself is not ARMA, it is NOT a realistic simulation so in games like ARMA TK's make sense, in a game like Planetside where you can see an explosion but there are never dismembered body parts (not even blood on kill) Team Killing function feels out of place. So the original idea was that you would concentrate your fire and be careful aiming during small arms battles and that this would help you over time at getting better at the game. This has never been the case and has always been irritating and unintuitive. I feel the system is more-so broken when you look at how the game punishes you for team killing in general where, in one scenario I had my weapon locked for 1 hour due to clumisness not just on my side but due to clumsy team members. So for example: I would spin up my chaingun and fire at the enemy and my team mates willy nilly run into the gunfire even though they can see an active chaingun "Oh hey your firiing that CG, BULLETS I LOVE TO DANCE IN THEM", I then get punished with team kill points for a player running literally into my bullets. Another time I was driving a vehicle, a guy crashes into me and I'm the one punished for "team kill points" even though he smashed into me. Another area of this game that is perplexing to say the least is the horrendous level design in some of the bases for small arms fire, there's for example areas of the game where it is literally a tunnel fight, upwards of 64 players vs 64 players on either side of a tunnel trying to fire at one another, you will rack up team kills constantly and is impossible to not kill a team mate, even if you were the worlds most accurate player, or better yet an aim bot you'd still hit someone though in that case not because you fired on them but because they got in your way due to bad level design. So its like the game is non-stop insulting the player for playing it. The best resolution short-term and long-term that I can find for this re-curring problem would be to split the servers. SERVER 1: Casual/Normal, NO TK, Full UI, Normal Planetside 2 Experience SERVER 2: Hardcore Planetside 2 (fun for vets), Limited UI, Full Team Kill, + any additional hardcore features devs want to add in. It should also be possible to just transfer a character currently in planetside 2 to the Hardcore Server instead of leveling all over again, espcially for vets with ASP skills and maxed out implants. What this does effictively is splits the population into two types of players, the guys who are veterans like myself who want the Planetside 2 experience without the Team Kill aspects, and the Veteran who wants a more hardcore, less forgiving experience which in the longterm is fantastic for new players because they have a choice. As it is in any modern shooter franchise, ie call of duty etc. So guys coming into the game aren't thrown into the experience planetside 2 currently offers and seen uninstalling before they've got ahold of lthe core-gameplay which most of us have come to love even though we put up with dumb tk systems
