[Suggestion] Tank Buster Cannon. Are you kidding me?

The only thing I disagree with it is that a skyguard can't 1 clip a lib.
  2. Mjolnir

It shouldn't be able to. The skyguard is a weapon mounted on a vehicle that moves through 2D space and is very easy to drive. The Liberator costs more resources than the skyguard, needs more people to be effective, and moves through 3D space and requires a lot more skill to pilot.

My issue with libs is Stealth 4 and how quickly they can dish out damage.
  4. Mjolnir

Stealth isn't the issue. I NEVER use stealth on a lib, and I never need to. People are in general oblivious with VERY few exceptions (and these exceptions are typically BR100s with hundreds of hours in whatever vehicle they are in). I have no trouble sneaking up on enemy libs, galaxies, tanks, etc. with no stealth equipped. People simply don't listen and don't look at the minimap.

Tank...Buster. Tank...Buster! TANK...BUSTER!! It busts Tanks! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Say it with me people: Tank....Buster.

actually ESF that are properly piloted do very well, although they don't get to just camp areas and ignore damage as thoroughly as liberators. ESF die regularly if they make mistakes just like most other vehicles, something you liberator jockeys should experience once in a while.
there you go, now we can have a constructive conversation since you are now willing to put a little work into the debate as well.

i was wrong. (see how easy that was once you put some effort forth)

according to the stats i used on the wiki those were the results i came up with. it would not be the first time the wiki was wrong, or i could have made an error in my math somewhere. the fact still remains that a single clip from a clip 4 TB can cripple any tank (in most cases that is a death sentence, and after a quick reload the TB can finish the target off or any quick burst from any of the other two guns on the path. i most certainly do agree that team play should provide an advantage, a quick burst from one of the other two guns hardly qualifies since it is something that can readily be done through seat swapping.

so either the damage output needs to be reduced (making it less effective against everything in general) or the rate of fire needs to be reduced (while maintaining DPS) to make it much less effective against ESF or other fast moving and unpredictable targets so that there is a significant risk associated with having a dedicated A2G weapon. as a side note i also strongly believe the other two nose guns and both the AA tail guns need substantial buffs.

another suggestion i heard was to make liberators vulnerable to small arms fire like valks and ESF. it would certainly take any validity out of the gripes about them farming (even 1% damage would probably do the job)

    sky...GUARD sky....guard! SKY...GUARD!! it guards..................

i played with that in beta. then the skyguards could one clip a lib and it was undeniably OVER POWERED.
skyguard also moves at less than 1/3rd of the speed of a liberator so there are plenty of advantages there, but i do agree that skyguards don't need to be more effective against liberators.

however WHAT IF the skyguard was a 3 person vehicle with options for ground defenses? would it then be ok for all of the weapons to be powerful enough to break aircraft on their own?

or a real world example, what about an AA sunderer? they are a 3 person vehicle and just like a liberator require at least 2 people to be viable. they are significantly cheaper, but they are also MUCH less maneuverable than pretty much any vehicle. they abandon all hope of doing damage effectively to anything on the ground. so the real question now, should an AA sunderer be able to clear aircraft from an area as effectively as a liberator can clear ground vehicles? currently AA sunderers are about as effective as skyguards with the only difference being they can take more hits and conversely are also less agile.
  9. lawn gnome

agreed. this is why i have 458 kills with C4 solely from my heavy assault. i regularly run through swarms of a dozen guys to plant C4 on their sunderer and blow it up, after they kill me (sometimes they don't and those are really funny) but the damage is already done.

i am addicted to the minimap from my use of proxy radar on my skyguard.

You misunderstood the original post, I said "Like a civil war era Gatling gun, firing 'ball shots'" as a reference to how the projectile travels and how its pointless it is for such a weapon of such caliber to fire such a shot. They don't use that round but I was using an analogy of a sort to describe the absurdity of the TB's projectile drop, low velocity for a projectile weapon, and how it's designed to be an anti-vehicle weapon.

The dives i was doing in that video were WAY lower than anything I would dare to attempt in an actual battle. You can see that in a few of the runs I start firing just a little bit outside of the max damage range (50 meters) and the tank doesn't even catch fire. In reality I would start firing much farther away than that, since getting that close to the tank on a vertical dive makes it take a very long time to change direction and get out of the way. If there were any heavy assaults with dumbfires or tanks in the area I would probably be killed doing that.

You have to keep in mind that a full 44 round liberator magazine costs thousands of certs, and most people don't have it and are not willing to make the investment because the tankbuster simply doesn't give them easy kills like other weapons (like tank weapons) do.

To be honest, using the tankbuster on tanks is really riskier and less likely to work than just using a belly gun. When a liberator dives to go for a tankbuster kill, it is at its most vulnerable to non specialized AA fire (i.e. weapons/turrets etc. that can't angle up high enough to hit a lib directly above). Today I was driving a vanguard on Hossin with a few other vanguards, a lightning and a sunderer. My vanguard was killed by a hovering (it wasn't moving at all) ZEPHER lib. The zepher isn't even an anti tank weapon. It took the gunner 3-4 magazines to finally kill my tank, but I couldn't do anything about it so he killed me all the same. However, this was completely my fault. I was in an area with no AA to deter the liberator, I had no friendly air in the area, and I had no real cover to go to. If I had just put a walker on top of my tank I could have easily out-DPSed the liberator, but instead I put a canister on there because I wanted more infantry kills. This was my choice, and I chose wrong. The issue isn't that liberators are invincible or overpowered, but rather that you have to make conscious decisions to counter them, often in coordination with others (like having one guy in the squad escort with a skyguard, or just putting a ranger or walker on the sundy which is probably easier). However I was playing in a pubbie squad, so that level of coordination wasn't really happening.

Had the liberator tried to go in for a tank bust I could have lobbed some AP shots at him, but he stayed well above me so none of my weapons could elevate high enough to hit him.

Just an example what happend to me yesterday. An LIB catch me from behind and i dont noticed it. He shot me down with one Clip of the TankBuster in a few seconds. First i wondering but the i said he has a lucky shot to me...(was still standing). BUT i just said to me that i want an equivalent to Aircraft. The Air Guard is not equal. I need many many shots to get even a small Airplane down. A bit more effektive will be nice on the Skyguard i think...
  14. Dreadnaut

So what, Stealth makes you not show up on Radar, but you can hear it coming from a long ways away. It's useless.

If you get killed by a Lib in a Tank you either deserved it or you were locked down in a TR Prowler and couldn't unlock in time.
  15. Dreadnaut

It's amazing what you can do in PS2 when no one cares enough to try and kill you.

Killing a Liberator is so ridiculously easy, anyone that complains about one is just bad or doesn't care enough to kill one.
  16. FateJH

You want a tank that can throttle you up to the flight ceiling so you can shoot at the Liberator at point blank range?
  17. Dreadnaut

Why doesn't anyone ever figure the CoF when they do these stupid comparisons? The bullets have drop, are slow as hell, and spread out...Oh I know why everyone leaves out CoF when making these comments, it's because it doesn't benefit them to do so...

For all you people that say this is OP, I'll pull a fully certed Liberator on ANY faction and you show me how easy it is to go kill tanks. I don't believe what anyone says on a forum, so come SHOW ME.

Get a hold of me via my sig.
  18. Dreadnaut

If you die to a Tank Buster you deserved it, or you just got out played by someone who's VERY good at what they do.

Ya know, it's ok to die to someone who's better than you at something, it really is.

Take a look at how close I have to get to anything to kill it...

Your 1 man Skyguard can't kill a 3 man Liberator...

    You're shocked why?!??

Get 3 Skyguards and see what happens to a Liberator that gets close...oh yeah, they OBLITERATE it.
  19. Trebb

Your post may be slightly biased, as I see a bunch of liberators in your avatar / signature.

    My post is not.

TB should not make an entire faction trait (TR tank lockdown) gimped, but man does it make you a sitting duck. You literally cannot unlock in time even if you do it 0.0001 seconds after hearing the Lib noise.

I almost never fly Libs, but for giggles almost maxxed out the TB, and strafed a 48v48 base over and over, one clipping tanks from behind by just flying in low, there was nothing they could do. Finally like 8+ started wising up, and I finally died.

Ganking is not a healthy thing in a pvp game, especially when you're in a 'tank'. I seriously think the resistances are bugged, and need to be looked at. At least the TB+Rear multiplier anyway
  20. Alkezo

So you're saying killing a bunch of situationally unaware zerglings makes a weapon OP? Man, they need to nerf the Lasher some more then because I've killed groups of enemies that ignored my presence on several occasions.

Do you know what I do when I rarely die from air? I pull AA, every time. In the situation you described, you probably could have C4'd them all with the same effort.
