[Suggestion] Tank Buster Cannon. Are you kidding me?

i have done it a few times, but you have to know they are coming AND you have to be an amazing driver (or they have to be incredibly dumb / terrible). if that rope of death ever touches you then you are pretty much done. i ALWAYS drive directly under the liberator, because NONE of the belly guns are anywhere near as much of a problem as the TB.
skyguard < 2% AND in all cases is beaten by the tankbuster for liberator kills and seems to be holding pace with the dalton for liberator kills. so the liberator anti ground weapons also beat the dedicated AA for air kills, do ya see a problem with this, cuz i sure do. skyguard doesn't even make the general list.
  2. lawn gnome

EXCEPT skyguard takes around 20 seconds to kill a liberator with direct hits, and during that whole time it is firing the skyguard is very visible on the minimap, stealth for a skyguard is largely useless if you are actually making an effort to properly defend the area from aircraft. moving around helps, but for the most part they will all know the general area where you are and will easily be able to find you before you get a kill, the only exception is ESF if you catch them at close range or MAYBE valks.
  3. lawn gnome

the difference is most guys with a shotgun can't close the gap AFTER you have begun firing at them and kill you anyway.

I really, really, really, really want to find some of these Libs. Though considering some of the gunners I've seen, I guess that's possible?

Pray you never run into me :)
  5. lawn gnome

i don't bother considering aim botters when i am discussing balance.
  6. lawn gnome

have used it in combat plenty. i crashed a few liberators and then shortly after i learned how to keep them from slamming face first into the ground i went to work face tanking tank rounds and smashing tanks from above in a 1/3 liberator. i found it to be disgustingly easy and lost interest. don't pretend you are some high and mighty divine being with me. i dive in and get my hands dirty whenever i make these claims, and while i may not have farmed kills as hard as you, i was easily murdering tanks while i was just barely able to keep the craft off the ground. i was SLAMMING INTO TREES within 5 minutes of spawning my liberator and i was still murdering tanks. i actively avoided collecting gunners because i didn't want them to die pointlessly from me smashing into a hill and getting angry.

my low number of kills is a reflection of my utter disgust at the concentrated cheese that is the tank buster. i could not stomach getting any more kills in such an unfair manner, it was insulting to my abilities.

personally, i would be happy if tank busters were required to reload ONCE during the kill of a healthy tank, nobody else gets to one clip pretty much any vehicle beyond a flash except skyguards that catch ESF at close range (and even in that case i think ESF probably deserve some buffs).

if the tank buster is so incredibly useless, then why are you so afraid of it getting nerfed? i mean it accounts for so few of your kills and does absolutely nothing, why do you care at all?

even with 100% accuracy none of the belly guns can crank out the raw DPS of the TB, i take plenty of hits, but they are always better than what the nose gun can do.

I wasn't referring to his number of kills in a Liberator as an indication for his ability to comment on weapon balance. I pointed it out because he seemed convinced that his numbers for Tank Buster rounds taking out a tank were correct, when anyone who has used a Tank Buster (even in VR) can tell you that his numbers are incorrect.

P.S. Not important to the argument, but I do have Skyguard and Burster kills. Don't know where you got that info. Very few (I don't enjoy playing MAX and when I'm a tank I play magrider), sure, but I do have them :)
  9. z1967

Yeah, the kills don't show up on DA unless you have at least 50. You don't show up on the leaderboards until you have 500.

Yeah, the TB numbers were wrong like you said. Its more or less the way you pointed it out that I am not a huge fan of. But ah well, life goes on so does the zerg :).

OP here :] So after writing this tread I invested 2K certs in an liberator :] Tank buster is actually quite hard to use, you must be very close and land every single shot to destroy a tank. I did that few times but I was quite lucky :] So I quess I was wrong. Anyway Liberator is lot of fun but you need at least 1 good player to join your air vehicle. Soloing is very hard...
  11. Meeka

You can hear a Liberator coming a mile away.

If it's coming down close enough to tank bust, it's close enough to hit with your main cannon.

    Kill it with fire.

That said, the tank buster is fine... the Liberator itself needs a mobility nerf.

You mean that when offered another opinion, you tested it out and found it to be true instead of just continually disagreeing out of hand?

We did it! Forumside is saved!

Brahma2 I have no problem admitting I was wrong and never disagreeing out of hand :] I was so curious abut that weapon that killed me in 1 second I immediately save some certs, equipped an liberator and start flying with it. I am an mediocre ESF flyer so it was not a problem. As I said...you must be lucky, ultra sneaky and AA have to absent a lot to kill a tank with tank buster.

Reacting to every thread --> never a valid argument or information ---> always trying to play psychologists --> brain dead kids forever.

Riding around in a tank, deep in friendly territory, lib shows up, tank dies in seconds. This is not reasonable. Saying pull AA is unreasonable because you can't have AA pulled in every region. AA is also boring and unrewarding. It takes multiple units to simply deter air, not to speak for killing it.

Lib vs tank isn't good gameplay, it's one player bullying another with little to be done about it. I know a thing or two about situational awareness and being countered by it, but the argument falls flat when there is no good counter.

"You can hear them", but you can't stop them. On a road? No places to take cover, Libs are over 3x faster and can overtake virtually anything.

C4 can be dodged with awareness, libs are fast enough to not be dodged. All math around ttks support the indication that tankbuster is overpowered and the only argument people can bring against it are "its called a tank buster, duh"

Things balance out around larger fights, but that's irrelevant. A situation exists where one person can't even transit without getting skunked in a completely unfun way, and that's unacceptable. The game needs to move in a direction where fun options exist for everyone.

Actually, Civil War era mini-ball ammo weren't the small round spheres that people think they were. They were aerodynamic and they did use rifled barrels in the Civil War. Muzzle-loaded rifles were common, but there were some lever-action rifles which used cartridges. Civil War era guns were far more deadly than the muskets of previous years which did used simple round balls.
  17. ColonelChingles

    Minie ball, not mini ball.

But yes, Minie balls were more like conical bullets than round balls:

Civil War 1862 Gatling Guns however did not "really" use Minie balls... they used actual metal cartridges (bullet + metal casing). The first model did use Minie balls with a paper casing, but these never saw actual combat (and I think most died in a fire). The .58 caliber projectiles that the Gatling Gun used may have been repurposed Minie balls... but they definitely weren't being used in the same way that they were used in rifles of the era.

You have 14 vehicle kills in a liberator. You only have magazine size 1 certed on the tankbuster, and only level 1 of high G airframe. The only utility you have certed is ejector seat... This makes me doubt the veracity of your claims. 14 vehicle kills is certainly not enough to prove that you were wrecking tanks left and right with no experience. Provide video evidence and I will believe you. The "I don't have any kills with it because it is too easy" argument is pretty stupid. If the tankbuster is so easy, why do so few people actually get kills with it? Why do only 300 or so people have the auraxium medal with it? Are you suggesting that PS2 players don't all flock to the "easy" weapons and vehicles? I think we all know that is utter crap, since everyone uses the Orion, everyone farms with tanks, and everyone uses lockons. If something is easy to get kills with, you can bet that most PS2 players are doing it. However, barely any people fly libs, and fewer still are even remotely competent with the tankbuster.

You are actually more at risk deeper in friendly territory than you are on the front line. I often loiter behind enemy lines when there is no air presence and pick off tanks that are driving to the battle because they have no friendly support around them, because everyone is at the front line. If you have a skyguard with your tank you will stand a MUCH better chance against a lib; if they try to dive on the skyguard you can hit them quite easily with your main cannon and probably kill them if the skyguard is also firing.
  19. Shootybob

So the counter to liberator is to commit more resources than they do, simply to traverse friendly territory? Why is that okay?
  20. Mjolnir

Or you could just pull a single ESF and kill the liberator.

Most of the time people pull tanks from close enough that it doesn't matter. Either way, the liberator is designed to take out tanks. Their hard counter is other air vehicles, and it works VERY well at taking out liberators.

If you want to deny the enemy the ability to kill your tanks with liberators, PULL A LIBERATOR or an ESF or two. It will work a lot better than a skyguard.
