[Suggestion] Super Weapons, Massive Artillery, Mechs.

In regards to super weapons, I feel as though these technologically advanced militaries would have some sort of "doomsday" weapon, nuclear, or other - type. I understand, this could be game breaking in some ways but it could also be something one faction would attempt to achieve in the course of map progression. For example, a specific facility, lets say "The Crown" could have WMD capability or something similar that could have a one-use type weapon which could be fired when needed.

I don't see it as a major issue for balance, if everyone has an opportunity to "earn" it and having respawn capability would simply mean it may sway an advance by wiping the floor clean in a certain area, nothing drastic, but it would be interesting; one use type deal.

Further, in some places, I see these gigantic artillery guns, I can't remember specifically which structures contain them but they are just there to add flavor. It would be nice if some captured facilities offered use of these large guns and they could be fired based on laser-designation by soldiers in the desired area.

This would be akin to what DUST514 uses for orbital bombardment.

Also, I'd like to see mechs, not MAX-size, but big ones. That would not only draw more players but would make it very interesting.

    Comments are appreciated.

Artillery and Mech's are already a guaranteed no.
As for a super weapon see Orbital Strike on road map.

nukes should go off if a base is contested for too long
  6. arihmanes

Yeah, that could work. Again, why wouldn't these factions have super weapons, or artillery?
  7. NotCodeak

cuz unlimited troops fighting forever is cheaper

What i dont get is why the military command of Vanu, TR and NC even bother giving their troops real weapons. Why not just say:
"That way, respawning scum, and remember to pick up a branch or stone so you can kill somehting before returning here...now get to it!"

The reason PS2 doesn't have these technologically advanced weapons is for interesting gameplay and balance. It is the same reason PS2 tanks have WW2-era targeting systems, instead of the "point-and-kill" OHK systems of modern MBTs. Same thing for air-to-ground and air-to-air weapons. Pilots already complain that the A2A lock-ons (which are 1950's technology) are EZ mode and ruin gameplay.

If you could take a modern weapon system, and somehow time-travel it to Auraxis, it would chew up just about every weapon we have in-game.

I've heard that the addition of mechs to PS1 ruined that game, so it is unlikely we will see them, even though there is the one Easter Egg.

Why are they adding Orbital Bombardment, then? It seems ridiculous to assume that these "factions" have some sort of spacefaring weapon, whether it be a satellite, or spaceship, that can rain hell down on an area, but they can't have mechs, targeting systems, artillery, or superweapons.

Battlefield 4 is going to have a "commander" option, where you can fire cruise missiles, artillery, etc. I guess it's only game breaking in PS2.

    Why is artillery a no?

Source? I don't recall seeing a dev post saying that artillery is a no-no. Also, I distinctly recall devs saying 'no lattice' and yet where are we now?

Oh yes, the cannons at tech plants' second floor near the A point... I always wondered about those.

    In fact.

Given Artillery has been a fundamental component of war for at least 400 years, its strange its not in the game. Furthermore PS1 had the fail.

There's no good reason it should not be in game, other than it might ruin peoples infantry farms.

Indeen so long as it was fairly immobile, not ridiclously OP and had certain limitations prehaps with relation to the logistics system. Don't see why it would do anything but sigificantly add to the game. Perhaps a system thats fairly intutive and logical that limits the posible places for an artillery battery and having it make far more sense to run in one. Then doing things like arty hunting missions and counter battery fire become new way of playing the game around a large battle but effecting said battle.

    And whats wrong with that.

SoE realy needs to step up and bring planetside 1 vehicles back, the mech were epic

I think adding in super weapons would make alot of people mad just imagine your whole platoon finally breaks through the lines after an hour of trying and boom a nuke goes off, and your whole platoon is dead I dont know about you, but to me that would be so annoying people would be popping off nukes left and right, and it would affect alerts drastically.

First of all, as a Battlefield fan I'm sickened by your inability to get your facts right when referencing to the series.

Commander mode is not new to BF4. It was introduced back in BF2 and reused for BF2142, only to be forgotten altogether when EA decided it's a good idea to go all arcade-and-CoD style in Bad Company and BF3. It was after MUCH outcry and raging that DICE decided to let the much-needed mode return.

Secondly, Commander mode works in BF2 and 2142 only because there's a relatively fair and reliable way to elect one, namely the applicant with the highest rank... in a team that only has up to 32 players, and in a game that has "round end" to reset the process. You can't do that in PS2, which will probably have hundreds of BR90+ waiting on a queue that advances once every few hours.

The topic reminded me of this thingamajigger. Imagine a beast like this in PS2.

I never said it was new, nor did I suggest adding it, the purpose of that statement was to show that other FPS will have artillery and cruise-missile like support systems, which seem to be 'balanced.'

I think you went into some bitter-tirade about something I wasn't even saying. Please reread what I said, word-for-word.
