[Suggestion] restrict your vehicle by class

I wouldn't mind seeing that too. Anything that allows us to fine-tune control of our vehicles.

Yup, Just like its not worth it to have an "Eject All Passengers" Button for when your vehicle is about to explode. People shot me down when I suggested it. Suppose its time to shoot others down when they want a button added. Ill just give you the **** excuses they popped my balloon with:

    1. Too Much Work.
    2. Will Create Lag to have all passengers doing something at once. (Or in your case, The system having to lock out players by class)
    3. People would use it to troll.
    4. Just tell them over Voice/Chat you don't want them in/Want them to eject.
    5. Not New Player Friendly.

I see no problem with this.

discrimination doesn't have to be based on gender, race or religion, the gunner is there to shoot things with the gun turret, if he's an engineer that's a additional benefit. if the devs wanted only engineers to be gunners then only engineers could enter vehicle weapon seats.

your analogy is flawed, any person who can use a mouse regardless of class is qualified to use a secondary or primary vehicle weapon, class of that gunner is a side benefit if it synergies with the vehicle.

try opening a restaurant or store that only serves people with an engineering degree and watch people rage about discrimination against those who do not have an engineering degree.

DBG is not going to add features just so people can use them to discriminate.

If you want to discriminate by kicking people who aren't engineers fine but don't expect DBG to make it easier.

I don't really understand your continued insistence on comparing a voluntary tool to restrict access to a vehicle in a video game to forms of proscribed, illegal, real-world discrimination. I'm not sure why you keep bandying around the term "discrimination" as if this is in even remotely the same context as civil rights issues.

There's nothing immoral or unethical about not hiring an electrician to do your plumbing. Being able to repair an MBT is vital asset, I think most people would agree, and individuals exercising free choice of an engineer in the secondary is a merit-based choice, based on the actual abilities of the engineer class.

It's nothing like racism, sexism, etc., or even restricting restaurants to engineering graduates. Giving us a tool to allow us choice in the matter makes it easier for everybody, both engineers and non-engineers. People who want non-engineers in their MBT get them. People who want a second repair gun get one.

If you like medics in your secondary, that's your prerogative.

I got kicked out of a squad because the leader wanted everyone to be heavy assaults and medics, and I wanted to play an infiltrator.

Where do I go to get the ball rolling for my discrimination lawsuit? DBG gave the squad leaders the tools to make this kind of discrimination happen, and I DEMAND justice for the way I was treated.

I always wanted a "pilot" class that was required to drive/ride any vehicles that weren't transport vehicles, with exception to the Flash and Harasser. Always thought it would make the game slightly more immersive.
  8. Crayv

It kinda was like that in Planetside 1. You couldn't enter certain vehicles if you were wearing heavy armor.

Would be nice to have options to un-/lock driver seat (default locked, unlocking would allow other people (squad or everyone) to take the vehicle), un-/lock gunner seats, un-/lock passenger seats and AMS status (public, squad/platoon only, private).

gunners are there to kill stuff, *if* the gunner happens to be an engineer they may repair your vehicle. gunners are not your personal repair tools. the gunner seat is for gunners it's not an engineer seat.

If you care for your vehicle YOU play as an engineer, expecting others to play a class you want them to play in order to get a gunner is just childish.

*if* your gunner is an engineer great, if not you may come into a situation that a gunner being an engineer would have helped well **** happens and at least you had a gunner rather then being 1/2

better to have a non-engineer gunner and have the extra DPS then to have an empty gunner seat.

there's a difference between a tool being added for a legitimate purpose then being used for discrimination and a tool being suggested for the purpose of discrimination.

This is very very narrow visioned. This is almost special snowflake thinking. You pulled a tank, all right good for you! Your gunner seat is empty. Bad for you! A friendly without engineer class gets in the turret. Well you might want an engineer but he'll have to do until and engineer gets there.
Oh, but you really want an engineer in there? Well instead of simply preventing other classes from entering, which is a negative system, we can invent a positive system for that, and it's simple as hell!

Here's an example: You can select a preferred class. When you do this, anyone with that class will see the 1/2 or 2/2 in a different color than blue. Or maybe it gets thicker red edges or something.
Now imagine a Heavy getting in your turret. Now it looks like a 2/2 tank for everyone, except engineers see a different color 2/2. Engineers can enter your vehicle and will automatically kick out the non-engineer class. The moment the engineer does this, your tank looks like an ordinary 2/2 tank, so the 2/2 is it's normal color again until the engineer gets out.

There! Everybody happy! You don't prevent any randoms from entering, you signal to nearby engineers if your vehicle is available even if there's already a different class inside, in fact players can more easily recognize which vehicle is available anyway so you'll get gunners more quickly and more quickly your engineer gunner.
You can even expand this and give all classes the option to get a different icon above them to signal their availability to gun. You would only see the advantage of looking for an engineer, but people who are less narrow-minded would be able to pick up anyone they need, even if it is just for a minute.

This locking up my vehicle to anyone with a "wrong" class is ridiculous. There already are ways to signal you don't want someone inside, which are using /tell's, kicking or even locking the vehicle. Using the argument of "they can buy their own" is also ridiculous, as these people were infantry before and they might just want a ride or gun for you for a while because they crossed your path. Why not give it to them until an engineer is available instead of waiting for an at that point non-existant engineer?

Edit: As an interesting note, you claim that you've seen too many die because their gunner wasn't an engineer. Well if you really cut it that close that the repair speed is the deciding factor in a fight, you are doing it wrong. I rarely see it and I rarely experience it, and I tank a lot.

You know, when I see a 1/2 tank hanging out around the base I'll often drop in to give him a hand gunning for a while. I'm often playing an AV-focused HA. This topic is seriously making me reconsider my desire to use teamwork.

It seems like you're forgetting that it's not all about you. Some people might actually thank someone for stopping what they're doing and helping your tanking be more effective than a 1/2.

The bottom line is this: If it is so abhorrent to you to have a non-engi as your gunner, then try making some friends as needy as yourself so you'll have a sufficient pool of engi gunners to call upon. Right?

Laws of 1/2 MBTs looking for Gunners
If you are under fire, take any gunner.
If you are looking for a gunner and someone hops in, drive them to a deployed Sundee or weapons terminal and ask them to switch classes.
If they don't change classes, kick them.

I had the same idea kinda, a while ago though the responses i got seemed markedly different from in here, i admit i was so sick of crosseyed randoms using my gunner seat that i would have done anything to have a simple engineers only option.
