Stop putting in stuff from PS1 that nobody wants.

This thread shows you SOE has no idea who their target audiences are. This game's current state also shows you the same. SOE started out by creating a game very similar to BF3. Anybody who's played both games know SOE clearly went after the Battlefield franchise players. But it would seem halfway through development, and shortly after launch, SOE decided it wants to keep the Planetside 1 vets around. So what we ended up with, is a game not quite good enough to attract the Battlefield players, but at the same time not quite pleasing to the Planetside 1 vets. Battlefield players went back to BF3, and many Planetside 1 vets are constantly dissing Planetside 2 while wanting more PS1 elements added to this game.

This game is headed where Warhammer Online went. EA Mythic made the game wanting to attract ex-DAOC players, while at the same time attract WoW players. They ended up with a game not good enough for DAOC RvR players, and it didn't even come close to attracting WoW playrs. It feels this game has made the same mistake, wanting to go after too many target audiences. I guess SOE doesn't understand that Battlefield players hate CoD, CoD players hate BF games, CS:S players hate both BF & CoD games, and Planetside 1 vets pretty much dislike anything else on the market that's not PS1. How SOE thought they could attract multiple of those different audiences I don't know. And worse they thought they could get these players to get along. This thread shows you otherwise.

It's totally understandable if SOE wanted to go after Battlefield franchise players, because it's a franchise with a large amount of population, tons more than Planetside 1 ever had during its peak. It's also understandable why SOE wants to please their subscribers from many years ago. But let's face it, FPS players today won't stand for badly balanced games. People are not going to tolerate bad balance and bugs as people used to way back in the days when online gaming was young. These empire specific launchers, if they are really copied from Planetside 1 design, then I'm sorry PS1 vets, they are just some of the worst balanced items I've ever seen in a FPS game. Orbital Strikes, with over a thousand down votes, yet SOE still wants to push forward with it.

I read a post in Orbital Strikes' thread, it said simply, "so why do we need this in planetside 2?". That's my feeling as well, but I'm afraid SOE is determined to add things from Planetside 1 just to please the PS1 vets. Even if they totally throw the balance off whack, or make no sense to have in a game like this in the first place. I really do wish SOE would pick a target audience, and make it clear who they are making this game for. What's funny is that I really thought this game's infantry gameplay was *really* good until they added in pump action shotguns & SMG's. Then just when I thought they covered their tracks by nerfing annihilators, and I thought good maybe we won't have more cheese weapons like that ingame again. Then boom, here comes the empire specific rocket launchers.

I like this game, have liked it since I played it on day 1. But it does boggle me some of the decisions SOE has made, and continue to make for this game.

I like how you, and so many other people, speak like you know exactly what SOE is doing. All I have heard anyone from SOE say is that they are discussing OS'es and trying to figure out where, if at all, they fit in PS2. We have no idea how they might implement them. I doubt very seriously they will make the OS purchasable via SC. Everyone is pretty much in agreement that if they do put them in, it should have several requirements to limit their use. Battle Rank, spending X amount of certs in the Squad Leader cert tree, requiring an Interlink Facility, and even making it to where you can only use 1 OS per hex per hour.

People really need to participate in the damn Roadmap discussions instead of just down voting and screaming to not put something in just because they don't like it or understand its relevance to the game.

is it too late to ask for them to scrap the class system and go back to all certs and item slots? lol

Probably, but I'd want to ask anyway :D

Basically you can't counter my points therefore you call me an internet troll. Whatever dude, obviously you're so closed minded you're going to stomp your feet like a toddler on an internet forum. You get mad at me saying I'm dismissing other opinions when you do the same. Not all PS1 vets think like you, many of us don't want a rehash of some old game. If you don't like the way business works in the world, it goes to show how naïve and sheltered you are.

You keep saying you don't but you're no different than these people who want PS1 with better graphics. I see you won't accept my challenge: You want PS1 so much, go back and play it. Pay for the subscription and show Smed and the rest of SOE that you'd rather play that. Put up or shut up.

Holy**** will that be the worst idea ever.

I can just imagine a hacker sniper shotgun medic person.........lol good ol OP Planetside 1 builds.
  7. daicon

SOE is intent on adding ways playerscan interact with their games while they aren't at their PCs. Orbital Strikes is supposed to be one of these things included in the PS2 android/iOS app.

Personally I think it's a great idea to add things like this. Gives us more depth and honestly SOE is going down the right path with additions like Orbital Strikes.
  8. WalrusJones

While the SMG's were virtually obsolete on release.... Instant kill, no countermeasure the moment of "SURPRISE" is getting old.
  9. Slyguy65

Then you can buy them for 1200 SC...GG everyone who PAYS gets it.

Just like the mana turret...the second they allowed people to PAY for class abilities is the same second they made their choice to make this game P2W

You get to decide what everybody wants? Or do you get to decide what nobody wants?

You're right, not EVERYTHING in ps1 was awesome, for example - heavy armor could carry both health + armor repair tools.

Most things in planetside 1 were awesome, but it is true the Aftershock expansion was poorly tested, ballanced, implemented; and introduced a whole load of suck to the game. I'm not sure if you played PS1 or your memory of it has somewhat faded.

Infiltrators could only use pistols, had perma stealth and had to come out of stealth to use their weapons/gear (no access to smgs). AV rockets did not 1 shot you in planetside 1; orbital strikes were important to break up zergs and used for tactical countering, not to mention took a very very long time to aquire. Caves were initially high in population but were then empty for the next few years, planetside population bottomed out after aftershock and never recovered due to the expansion, the lack of advertisement, and an unwillingness on the part of SOE to move to free to play.

    That said:
    Sanctuary home worlds + HART
    Doors
    Infantry + Vehicle inventories
Ability to loot player corpses + store items in lockers
    latice system
    automated base turrets
    Vehicle re-arm terminals
The perfect ballance of imballanced faction specific vehicles/weapons
Mines - Players could carry and place 12 or so, with teamwork set up vast fields that persisted after logging out (did i mention lower singular damage).
Boomers - aka C4 were not OP vs vehicles, fights for spawn points generally lasted longer than 1 man and his 2-3 C4.
    Dedicated 2 man skyguard vehicles
    Lack of focus on K/D.
Military style ribbons for achievements/service length.
Command rank, its unlocks both visual and active abilities.
    The idea/principle behind the caves.

    Were all awesome.

PS2 will get there eventually, hopefully; faction specific weapons will no doubt be ballanced, so try to relax and not get so worked up about dieing in video games. :)

I can't wait for the orbital strike so I can bomb the crown into oblivion. Everybody should do that to get people away from the crown.

It's true that not everything in PS1 was better (and I for one don't think orbital strikes will work in PS2), but it's an old game ffs.

What many - if not most - people want now is a modern equivalent (not a straight copy), which due to lessons learnt from the PS1 experience and using modern technology should be even bigger and better. It does need to be something more than the old PS1 of course, but at the moment it just isn't as good on many levels (graphics etc apart, obviously).

PS2 currently feels more like CoD. Don't get me wrong, large scale CoD is still a good thing - but is it really what PS2 should be? It appears the devs think it should, which is extremely disappointing for all the PS1 vets, and would be for many other players if they really understood what they're missing out on.

I was excited to see a Planetside 2, because there were always things the original hadn't gotten around to doing, like proper naval combat for instance; it also meant a clean slate as far as some of Planetside 1's bigger issues were concerned, like BFR's/mechs. Unfortunately, too much of the wheel was re-invented in an attempt to court the battlefield & CoD/MW players with just one problem, those people don't want something different, they just want the same thing rehashed over and over so they can go in, feel good about themselves then go back out. Planetside 2 is not a game in which you can do that, in fact I've heard accounts of people going into this game only to say that it just makes them want to go back and play the competition.
  16. ABATTLEDONKEY

It is fairly bold isnt it? Its also a bet, or a gamble. That statement was my prediction, but by no means am I a fortune teller. I dont think that SOE wanted to gamble with their money, which is why there chose to develop a game using the standards that are already set in this industry. They didnt want to venture out into risky waters it seems. I could be wrong, but thats the way i see it playing out. in my experience, most gamers want a more rewarding experience, but are stuck with the same generic games we have in todays market,.

Also, I know PS1 wasnt perfect, and dont want a carbon copy. I would just like to see something that resembles PS1 with the changes necessary to make it great, and (on topic) would like to see more successful PS1 features put into this game.
  17. HMR85

PS1 Vet here, I played since 03 till PS2 release. I have never asked for PS2 to be a exact copy of PS1. One of the things I have always asked for is for SOE to apply the things that worked very well in PS1 into PS2. I don't understand why we have to relearn all of the things that should of been figured out by now from PS1 all over again.

Things I personally would like to see return are:

1.) The lattice system - We have had to relearn this all over again. It appears SOE has finally come to the conclusion that they need to put it back in which is a good thing imo.

2.)Sanctuary/Hart. - I don't care what some of you say. It really helped establish a place for outfits and people to setup raids. It was also nice to have some downtime. There is nothing quite like the sight of seeing 10 or 15 gals along with a huge line of armor and infantry setup in the Sanctuary preparing for a raid onto a new world.

3.) Supply lines - Ant's /NTU's really need to make a return. I personally really enjoyed those epic fights of getting last second much needed supplies to the silos just to save the base. Not to mention it also provided a set cap on how long the base could be defended. It also gave spec ops something to do such as cutting off much needed supplies etc (This goes for the lattice also)

4.) Proper facility layouts/Spawns - The current facility layouts for the Biolabs(Not as much)/AMPS/Tech are horrendous. Put some dam walls in that do not have huge gaps allowing infantry to flow in. Get rid of the cluster @#$% of buildings that litter the CY. Put some tunnels back in to allow for proper infantry fights that do not include vehicles. I personally feel this would make the game much more enjoyable for a large portion of the player base. A lot of the people I have talked to in game just want a facility that they can actually hold up and defend. They also want a separation of where vehicle combat ends and infantry combat begins. Which is something IMO PS1 did very well.

EX: When you first started a assault on a facility you had to take the outlying tower for a hard spawn. After which came the push to take the walls. Once the walls where taken came to push to claim the CY. (Infantry only from here on) Once the CY was taken came the push to take the main lobby/ back door. One all that was done came the final push to claim the CC/Gen/Spawn thus allowing the assaulting force to finally claim the base.

    Tower -> Wall -> CY -> (Infantry only fight) Lobby/BD -> CC/Spawn/Gen.

There are more things I would like to see added. But these are some that are at the top of my list. Feel free to comment on this. This however, is stuff that should of made a return IMO.

Kay. Tell me, what games that you really enjoy and think are absolutely great are you still playing? Any? Probably not. And you know what? That's alright.

People get burnt out even with great games, simply for the fact that they've played them. A lot. Not wanting to go back and play and older game =/= that game is bad. There comes a point when you have to shelve a game you love. You don't want to play it anymore even though you still think it's terrific. It's not a hard concept to get behind, really.

And, no. PS2 is only in the "spirit" of the original in the same manner that the XCOM FPS is in "spirit" of XCOM. It had the name. That's about it. Never said PS1 was perfect. I have, in fact, stated many times that it had its flaws. But it did quite a bit better than PS2. PS2 is not innovative. It copied quite a bit from CoD and BF3. Copying is not innovation. It is not evolution. It's using the same standard set by all other common modern FPS games. It breaks no new ground.

As for balancing, it happens. Especially since SOE wasn't exactly on the ball with a test server to, you know, test things out on before they put them in the game. I have no issues with any of the weapons currently in PS2. But think about it. If every single person in the game had an Orbital Strike, it'd be nuts.

Though, of course, that's expecting the devs to actually make the OS's like they were in PS1. At this point? ...well.

why would any self respecting game player want orbital strikes in a game?!?!

Ugh, that will be the day I quit playing.

    Doors. Hackable exterior doors.
