Stop putting in stuff from PS1 that nobody wants.

Oh thats not it. Getting hit with a conc...
Having scout radar on every vehicle conceivable so no defense or attack can be made without what effectively makes a legal wallhack allowing noobs with shotguns to prefire around a corner and 1 shot you.

Legal 'yellow skin' hacks of old making a presence known in PS2 as everyoen and their dog certs into IV and IF attachments...

Legal aimbot hacks in A2A, and G2A missiles of all types..

    This is deathmatch.

I disagree, from what i am reading on the forum it seems there starting to develop this game to a large scale cod deathmatch, and there are a whole bunch off ps1 things that could help reach that goal, like the battle flow, orbital strikes, ... things that destroy the whole gameplay....

    I was so sad when they decided to stop working on Terraria... you just made me sad again ;;

    Looking forward to OS.

This game will not be complete without Marauders (and I suppose something for NC and VS). No common pool buggy, I want my daggum pickup truck!

This game needs more stuff from PS1 that actually ACTS like stuff from PS1.

Right now, it's nothing but a bigger BF3 with Planetside names slapped on things.

Sure, even I don't want to go back and play Planetside 1 again, but I think they want too far in trying to make it new and modern. All these issues that people constantly whine about on forums? *Points to his signature* The OP tanks, and then aircraft, and then flak, and then MAXes, and then shotguns, and then Phoenixes? It could have all been solved if they actually kept the OLD FRIGGIN' CERT SYSTEM and utilized more gameplay concepts from the original game that this one is a SEQUEL TO.

    Fer cripe's sake.

See this is the problem, as soon as you mention PS1 a bunch of vets jump up and support anything which looks even slightly familiar to it, then all the youngster wannabe pick up on the issue and vote the t1ts off anything 'because it was like ps1' even if its barely the same as it was before thanks to the modern setting here.

Gameplay is in danger of being strangled like this by the new hex system, that arrived in exactly this fashion, I dont think people have really thought it through, ok I dont expect them to make flowcharts (like I have for games past) but surely its easy to see how limited this hex suggestion actually will be when enabled in PS2, thats more relevant today than its heritage but good luck getting it reversed when everyone realises.

Anyway thats just an example, PS2 is a game in its own right and needs to find its own identity and importing stuff for the sake of it isnt the way to go.

I'd be perfectly fine with this.

And I'm sure if SOE agreed with you, they would have made a brand new IP. One that broke rank with all other FPS games that had preceded it! It would explore new ideas with nothing tying it down or holding it back! New weapons! New gameplay! A completely virgin experience for all consumers to enjoy!

Oh, wait, no. They made a sequel. Not even a reboot. There's a nice big "2" after the name. Silly us, expecting it to be anything like the first one.

How were orbital strikes a problem in PS1...for you personally?
  10. ABATTLEDONKEY

you do realize how silly that sounds right? you do know that PS1 was popular for almost 10 years right, and that the only thing killing it is a continued subscription service.

Well you do realize how many players play ps2 right? and how fast those numbers decline.... the game market has changed the last 10 years, games evolved, hopefully ps2 does to...
  12. Stargazer86

So you're arguing that adding elements from PS1 is what is causing the game to decline, and NOT mismanagement by SOE, customer dissatisfaction, balancing issues, bugs, the monetary model, simple player burn-out, or a host of any number of factors? Specifically adding in features from the game that this one is based on is what is causing people to leave?

Really? I only ask because I want to know how hard I should laugh at you.

    I tend to agree.

Orbital Strike alone seems like an awful idea to start with.
And for all those saying we need more PS1 stuff.

I've never played it, but it can't have been that amazing, given the state of PS1 at the moment.

Thing is, I did want some stuff from Planetside 1 in the sequel. Like Lancers. That is, I wanted the Planetside 1 Lancer, not the failed prototype that is the charge mechanic. Oh well. Would rather we didn't have the orbital strike though, I suppose it's only going in because it has that Call of Duty "you did well, pat on the back, now run an attack helicopters guns to get EVEN MORE kills" feel to it.

Now, I'm not sure it's even worth asking for Planetside 2 to try and emulate the originals better aspects because I'm genuinely beginning to doubt the developers can deliver on that desire in a satisfactory way. There have been too many disappointments, too many things that were underdeveloped or not delivered, for instance, the VR training zone and tutorial elements should have been in the game AT LAUNCH. Not doing this was easily the biggest example of a botched launch in a history of MMO's that have botched their launches.

Planetside 1 has no players right now because you need a critical mass (aka, minimum) of players to keep things ticking along (By the way, this is liable to be the fate for Planetside 2 eventually, it's only a question of how long it'll take - That's not even an issue of game quality. Planetside 1 had good enough populations to last 6/7 years despite spectacular botches like the BFR's (Mechs), that's how good it was)... Once it goes free-to-play in 2015 (Sic) it'll pick back up.

I understand that. I really do. Even better graphics demand different gamaplay mechanics. so carbon copies wouldnt work out as well as everyone dreams.

Thats being said, PS2 resembles very little of PS1. VERY little, and as you stated, the numbers are in decline. Doesnt that say something? the entire premise of the gameplay is different (PS1 being MUCH more teamwork oriented) and as a result SOE is having a hell of a time balancing things. Maybe if they went back to complex, and dynamic gameplay, instead of catering to all of the solo cross overs, we would have a great game with real balance, and people might be able to enjoy it for its different feel, instead of its "same ol song" gameplay.

I've never played PS1, sadly, but I think NTUs/ANTs would make a great addition to the game. If they made the ANTs fun to drive and give a good amount of XP when you deposited your NTUs I think it could be a lot of fun ducking tanks while trying to sustain your base.

My friend, would you pay 15 dollars every month for a game that was released 10 years ago, whose sequel was released 3 months ago?

There's just no helping some people.
